  1. He sounds like he really trusts you and sees you as a member of his flock. :fear
  2. I just thought i'd add my experience with adding a second budgie. In January of last year i choose my budgie Blinkie from a clutch of babies one of my breeding pairs had. At that time i was home schooled and so i was home all the time to keep him company. Ever since i had him i spent a lot of time wondering whether or not to get him a friend. The only thing that stopped me was my fear that he would untame. This year i went back to regular school so i felt terrible leaving Blink on his own, especially as he's such a friendly, social budgie. So in April (i think) i got Ozzie. In the quarantine time i tamed Ozzie so when it was time for the two to meet i was introducing two tame budgies. Ozzie being less tame is better bonded to Blinkie but i believe that i am still Blinkie's number one flock member, which is an even better feeling now that he has a choice of budgie or human. You have to be prepared for the two not to get along though, i've had Ozzie for months and i'm only just able to keep them in the one cage. Every other time i've tried Ozzie has bossed Blinkie around too much and kept him from eating. Yesterday and today however i have been able to leave them together while i go to school and i come home to find them preening each other (although once i'm spotted Blinks runs over for a kiss :fear).
  3. Awww! They're so cute! :fear Look at him bob around.
  4. She's super cute! Love the belly. :(Laughing out loud):

Thanks guys!! Glad you liked the pics. If your budgies are tame then it's pretty easy. Just take them on your shoulder or hand. They'll either love it or hate it. You just need to be careful that the water isn't too hot.

My gorgeous feathered boys joined me for a shower tonight. Actually, i had a shower for their benefit, i thought they'd like to have a splash. We all sat in the bath with the shower running and i had the pleasure of watching Ozzie race around, belly down in the water while Blinkie chased after him determined that he would roll on Ozzie's tail. :(Laughing out loud): It was hilarious. They both ended up soaking wet but neither of them wanted to be wrapped up in a face washer to get dry, they just wanted to dry naturally. Despite the photos they actually had a great time, (Laughing out loud). You've got a little water behind your ears! I wont look at the camera, i WONT! We should pay her back somehow, this is so humiliating. *grumbles* Let's put on our super angry faces! *intense budgie glare* Blinkie fights the warmth of the face washer, he's no baby, he doesn't need his mummy to dry him.

Or you could just get some plastic streamers like they have in the door way of fish and chip shops, those work well as a sort of safety thing.

That's what i thought at first too but now i know what i'm looking for they're in every pet shop i've been into around here. Definitely if you have an aviary with 150+ budgies. But if you're like me and just sprinkle 1tsp over your budgies seed then a 450g bag of Vetafarm Finch and Budgie Crumbles lasts AGES and a bag is only $8 which isn't a crazy price seeing as it lasts a while. Crumble mix is pellets, crumbled up for little birds.
  9. It took me a while to even realise what was different, (Laughing out loud).
  10. I heard inbreeding can potentially shorten the offsprings lives and increases the chances of diseases and weaknesses that run in the family? How can a breeder determine that there aren't any hidden faults/illnesses before selecting a related pair?

Sadly my brother has the camera with him in Sydney for the week so i couldn't get any photos.
  12. Put all his old perchs and toys in the new cage. When i add something new to any of my budgie's cages they get scared at first but you just have to leave him to adjust.

After i successfully hard boiled it? I added some shop bought egg and biscuit mix and some chopped veggies.
  14. I've sprouted some wheatgrass seeds for the budgies. I've given some to Blinks and Oz and also some to each of the breeding pairs i've got set up. They love them so much that now i'm going to sprout some of their regular seed mix to see if they like that too. I've been trying a few different foods with the budgies this week. I made them a chopped salad with: carrot, red capsicum, broccoli, bok choy, snow pea sprouts and that has been an eagerly awaited snack during the day with Blinkie and Ozzie. :fear Then yesterday i made some egg food for them (took 2 attempts, first try i failed to properly hard boil the egg :) and that was scoffed down immediately too!! With Blinkie and Ozzie i have a little red food dish that they get all their snacks in, it's proved very handy as they've decided that if it's in the red dish, it's food. The red dish appears and Blinkie races over to see what's for lunch this time. :(Laughing out loud):
  15. I thought about that but i wasn't sure....because they can be carrying recessive pied cant they?
  16. Do you even hate the ones with just a little crest/tuft on their heads?
  17. (Laughing out loud)!! I LOVE this one!! How cute is it's little hair do!

They're steamed veggies all smushed together. You could that mixed with some seed and see if Trixie will try that. Ozzie's usually extremely suspicious of any orange veggies but he dug straight into this. Another thing you could try is seed mixed with organic baby food.

Blinkie and Ozzie have been sharing a cage all afternoon. There has been no...well, very little...bullying and i'm very pleased that they're getting along. The key? A honey seed stick! At first Ozzie wanted the whole thing to himself! And there was a little fighting *note* Watch Blinkie's facial expression over the next photos....i think you'll find that it DOES NOT change!! :(Laughing out loud): And after they had scoffed down as much as possible for a little budgie (Ozzie was at the seed stick for a good 20mins longer than Blinkie, Blink used this time to sneak an undisturbed private moment with his rope perch) they fell asleep side by side, so full they were just unable to remain awake enough to fight over toys!! If this keeps up they'll be able to live together even when i go out during the day, i can relax knowing they're not going to kill each other.

There...you can kinda see his face! That's a big piece of mash Oz!! Reeeeaach!! I know i can get that piece in the middle!! ......nice Blinks! <_<
