I think there will only be one bird truly destroying the cake and that's Sunny, the others will probably be nervously nibbling the edges. :hap:

It's perfectly normal for two boys to bond and be best buddies. You have no idea how confused i was to see this topic, i have a male and female tiel called Bailee and Cookie.

What kind of baby is that? Boris is so bossy, her and Blinks would be a good match. :budgiedance:
  9. That's a good idea!! I might just try that.
  10. :budgiedance: I will definitely post photos when it's done. I can just see my brats turning their beaks up at it.
  11. :hap: You would be right with the aviary birds, they get the usual seed, water, veggies, etc. The indoor guys are pampered little princes and princess's though. I can't say i would want it as my cake either. When dad saw them he thought i was making bubble and squeak. Good thing he didn't sample one. I know why...they look too healthy for you guys.Yeah, where's all the chocolate and cream pouring out the sides.

  13. Today i made up some birdie bread patties using egg rings to keep them in the right shape as they cooked. Two of these are destined to become the boys birthday cake. I will make some mash potato "cream" for between the two layers, and possibly the same for icing, with pea and corn "sprinkles" and carrot stick "candles". I chopped up a patty for the birds afternoon tea just now and it's going down well, so hopefully they'll like the cake when i make it later in the week!
  14. :(Laughing out loud): I just love how they play on their backs!!! They look soooo happy! Aren't you worried they might fly away?

I'm sure it will be the ugliest cake you'll ever see. :hap: My recent attept at birdie bread did not result in the most appetizing looking loaf. :hap:

I get my bits and pieces for bird toys from www.myparrotshop.com - their prices on toy making parts are pretty good. I usually make sure i have wiffle balls, quick links and cotton rope and i'm set to go. The pony beads i got in bulk off eBay, and i salvage a lot of bits and pieces from old bird toys which my guys have wrecked. I think i spent about $25 on toy parts several months ago and i'm only just due for a refill. I've made HEAPS of toys with that $25 and my birds enjoy them a lot more than store bought toys. :hap:

The best bit is that after i've spent all that time making the toys, i'm now going to have the fun of having to vacuum up all the ripped up paper that will end up on the floor. :hap:

I went nuts with shreddable toys today! The tiels love nothing more than ripping toys to pieces, and the budgies had finished the paper shredder i made them for xmas, so i had a bit of toy making to do to keep those beaks busy! I made a refillable toy out of a veggie skewer, beads, and Shredders. I made a couple of big paper shredders, one for the aviary budgies and one for the tiels. I used paper strips ripped off some paper till rolls i bought for toy making and hadn't thought of a good use for. They were good for this toy cause the paper was all curly. And i made a few patty pan toys I fully expect these toys to be gone in a few days. :hap:

They never seem to perform for the camera, do they? :hap: Or in front of guests for that matter. I can say to my friends how friendly and chatty my birds are, and then they come over and suddenly the birds all go quiet and shy.

I'll make the cake on Blinkie's birthday, because we'll still have Banjo and Sunny here to join in the celebrations. :hap: I think i'll need Sunny to dive in and show the others that the Birdie Cake is edible. :(Laughing out loud):

A budgie birthday cake!!! :(Laughing out loud): I guess with a birdie bread base, mashed sweet potato icing, and carrot stick candles we could have some fun....and 8 beaks to gobble it up should mean no wastage. :hap: Sounds like a party!

:hap: I'll have to set up some budgie surveillance to catch Fizzy at work. He's such a little rat bag. :hap:

There are three important birthdays coming up in the next couple of weeks here. On the 24/1 Blinkie will turn 3, on 27/1 Ozzie will turn 2, and on the 6/2 Fizzy will turn 1. :(Laughing out loud): I guess i need to start thinking of some pressies for the birthday boys.

I noticed over the past week that Blinkie and Ozzie both have a kink in their tail, right at the end. I suspected some kind of foul play on Fizzy's part, because his tail is perfectly straight and kink free. Ozzie's tail is bent much worse, and yesterday while i was laying on the lounge feeling sorry for myself (i've got the flu, yuck!) i saw criminal master mind, Fizzy, at work! :(Laughing out loud): He has a yellow swing which he loves to sit on and put his head in the bell that's on it. Yesterday Ozzie hopped on and right away Fizzy raced to the perch beneath it and grabbed his tail and started pulling him back and forth. Ozzie likes the swing more than Blinkie, which would explain why Ozzie's tail is worse off than Blinkie's! It was rather hilarious to see, if i didn't know Fizzy better i would've sworn he was trying to help his friend to swing.
