I would get them off the tree too. I give mine a really good wash either under the tap or with the hose before giving them to the birds.

Well eggs shouldn't be a problem with my boys!! :(Laughing out loud): And the one for the tiels is a bit small for them to get into for that purpose. It did cross my mind to make one for the aviary birds, but almost immediately i thought BAD IDEA!!

They were only $2 each from woolworths, i wanted the shells so i got a few. I tried the juice and flesh, hated it :(Laughing out loud):, froze some of the flesh for the birds and chucked the rest. They weren't expensive so it didn't bother me that much. Gracie really likes the flesh, and i'm sure the aviary budgies will eat it too.

Here's my first two homemade coconut toys (i spent the weekend opening and emptying coconuts, hehe)! Tiels get the first, budgies get the second (cause the tiels would have those shredder pieces off in seconds, the budgies might take a whole day, (Laughing out loud)). The tiels threw everything out of their coconut foraging toy within a few minutes. I can see it'll be a great game of we throw, you pick up.

I really like how it has the big swing out door!! :yellowhead: Your budgie will like that cage a lot!

Wherever you get them from, make sure you give them a really good scrub in hot water, and then dry them out in the sun. :yellowhead: My guys love the branches i get them from the park, especially the ones that are forked or slightly twisted in shape.

If it were a pet store with just one bird it would be the same, hehe.

I change my guys seed in the morning (2 tsp per budgie), and at that time i also give them a bowl of a salad i've started making for the birds (see Seven Layer Salad). I take the veggies out later in the day, and sometimes that's it for the day, and other times i'll give them something else on their playgym in the evening.

Well i can't see how quarantine is any different being in a different house or a different room. In fact most sources say a different building is best anyway!

I had this go through my aviary last year, i had to treat everyone and i lost one girl to it. It's a good thing you caught it early so you can start treating them.

Budgies don't actually need horizontal bars, they can climb really easily on vertical ones too, and if you ask me, the fun they have sliding down them makes them better than horizontal bars.

Depends on the bird. The tiels i baby sit are my friends and i see them all the time, i know they're extremely healthy. Tiggy is an only bird and has been for a long time, i consider that a good long quarantine. If it were a bird i didn't know, or a bird i knew to be unhealthy (e.g. my friends love bird) i would keep it away from my guys.

Nope, definitely not. The budgies are way too rowdy and they would give the tiels a hard time.

Tiggy has settled in quick! I was told he's very shy, and he's not really handtame, but he sure is being friendly. He comes out as soon as i open his cage and plays with the boys. He's taken a real liking to Ozzie, they've just been playing tag. :hap:

Nope, but they're out for at least 2hrs a day, usually a lot more.

The boys have a new friend for the week. We're bird sitting a little green budgie called Tiggy. He's been having a lovely time playing with my flock. I was very surprised that he wasn't afraid of the tiels! You can see a little smile on Cookie's face, she has ANOTHER handsome green budgie to fall in love with! Blinkie is particularly happy to have a new friend, he thinks Tiggy is so cool! He's even stopped pestering poor Gracie, which is nice for her. Tiggy flying over to the big cage. Blinkie going after him Fizzy looking rather dashing Ozzie, handsome as always! And Blinks, i had to tell him to be nice to Tiggy because Tigs isn't used to flirty budgies bashing their beaks against his!

Here are some photos of Ozzie on his 2nd birthday!! Getting birthday smooches from his buddies HAPPY BIRTHDAY OZZIE!! And just a couple of Stinko Blinko, hehe
  18. I hope Crackle manages okay till you can get her to the vet. My guys always seem to know when the avian vet is away or closed, and that's undoubtedly when something will go wrong.

Well the budgies are down here in the loungeroom, so even during winter we have lights on and they'll stay up until we put them to bed. The tiels get the bedroom light on also if it's dark and they're in their cage before it's bed time. I put all my guys to bed about 9:30pm - 10pm. At about this time they've all started calming down and some of them come over to sit quietly and chatter to me.

I've seen those bird kong type things before, and always wondered if my little guys would actually use one!! Maybe when i've got a bit more $$$ i'll look at getting one. :budgiedance:

My aviary budgies will go nuts for a branch of eucalyptus leaves!!
  22. I'm in Canberra and i've bought budgies from two nice pet shops that are just near where i live, i've also bought some off a neighbour who bred budgies, and i got some from the Canberra Aviculture Clubs annual bird sale last year too. Products i either buy from local pet shops, or online.

They nibbled at the mash on top. I was hurrying cause i was going out today, so i've put it in the fridge for this evening. I'll chop it up to make it easier to eat.

Well today is the day!! Happy 3rd birthday Mr Blinkie!! :hap: To my huge surprise he was the first to try the birthday cake too!! (Laughing out loud)!! What is it?? Is it edible?? Oh, mmmm, it is!!! Yum, mum this is delicious! I wonder what Blinkie is on about....ohh, this is yum!! Wait, don't eat it all, let us have a taste! You can see that everyone turned up to the party, except Banjo and Gracie because they weren't feeling sociable. And here's a couple of birthday boy photos!

Oh, they'll definitely be remembered, without them i think the chances of the cake being touched are .... mmm, zero! :hap:
