Found Birds ...
I saw "bush budgies" at a bird sale last year and they are TINY!! Supposedly they are bred to be as close as possible to wild budgies. They were even tiny compared to my little Fizzy!! :(Laughing out loud): I've found two budgies in my time as a budgie owner.

Merlin Says Good-bye :0(
I'm sure Merlin will be fine on his little holiday, because we know you will tell his baby sitters exactly what he needs! But i know i would be worried too. *hugs* Hopefully those paint fumes vanish quickly so he can come back home.

This Week
What an awful day!! *hugs* I hope you can save some of your stuff. What were you actually doing in the horses mouths? We've just finished 4 weeks of horse theory and there was a little bit of stuff on dentistry. I can't believe how far your arm was into the horses mouth!!!

This Week
Wow!!! You're so lucky to be learning all the stuff you are. I never understand how people can be scared of horses, hehe, cows are the scary ones. I love the pics!!

Do Your Budgies Do This Too?
Mine sing all the time when people are home, i can't answer for when people aren't home. The only time they're quiet is when all the people in the house are quiet and they're covered.

Dearest, Beloved Little Teapot
I'm so sorry for your loss. Teapot was one in a million, and i'm sure he'll live on in your memories, and the memories of people here.

Redecorating The Aviary!
To be honest, in a space that size, i wouldn't want ANY of my mates around me to fart!

Redecorating The Aviary!
I couldn't think of an indoor use for the awesome branch i found at the park the other day, so i decided to get creative and redecorate the aviary! First things first i had to move the flock into the only clean spare cage i had...hmmm... Probably should try to work quickly. Now for some BEFORE photos There was a rack of dowel perches in the covered part of the aviary, and a boing which i had stretched out as a big rope perch! And there were some branches in the front half too! Next step was to empty the aviary of all the old stuff. I haven't seen the aviary looking like this for a looong time! Then there was a bit of drilling holes and stringing beads on rope, to give me this where the dowel perches were! I beaded the rope i hung the branch with to stop the forever-chewing ladies from causing a big CRASH by chewing through the rope. In the front half i had more branches and the rope perch too. So that's that! I was going to get the budgies when i thought there was one more thing the newly decorated could use before welcoming the flock back into their home! Fresh BOTTLEBRUSH!! So now there's just one thing left to do! FREEDOM! And then it was time for everyone to explore their new jungle. And plenty of bathing opportunities in the damp leaves! A job well done in my opinion! And it looks to me like the flock is very happy with the improvements too!

Awesome Branch!
I was thinking of something along those lines, it seems such a shame to chop a branch like that into several bits. If i can figure out somewhere to put it (my room is teeny) i'll try that...

Awesome Branch!
On my walk tonight i came across this freshly fallen gum tree branch at the park! I broke all the leaves and twiggy bits off, decided it was still too big so took the car and our big branch cutters up to fetch it. Now to decide what to do with it. The big fat one will go to the aviary birds, and i'll probably end up making 2-3 smaller perches with the big twisty one. If this were my house and not my parents i would be hanging the whole thing from the roof as a play tree! (Laughing out loud)!!

Good Seed Mix.
I got through about 10kg every week too! I agree they waste a lot, but i sweep it up and give it to the wild birds. That way i get to see the pretty parrots and the wastage doesn't bug me as much!

Pak Choi..
My guys get this a lot. :hap: They just love it!

Work Experience!
So many birds!!! I would've thought surgical sexing is a risky option when you can just do DNA sexing with feathers or a spot of blood...

Harrisons?
I've never even seen budgie noodle things. :oliveb: Do they have a different name?
-
Harrisons?
Trill makes a very good budgie mix, i buy the 1kg box rather than the larger 2kg box as the mix is more varied and cleaner. I've tried including pellets in my budgies diets, but i just can't see that they're all they're made out to be. The two brands i have tried are Vetafarm which is easy to find and inexpensive (about $8 a bag) and Harrisons which is a major pain in the butt to find and costs a fortune ($20 for a bag). Harrisons is a very high quality pellet though, so if you want to try it i would recommend that brand. If you get the fine you'll more than likely need to crush them with a rolling pin, the mash would be fine. :oliveb: For the price though, i would rather leave the pellets and make sure they're getting lots of fresh food.

Clipping Blinkie :(
I did 4 figuring that he's a strong flier and 3 wouldn't be enough. I'll see if i was right about that once he's gotten over the horror of not having his sexy flight feathers. I know my little Fizzy can fly FULLY clipped, little rat.

I'm Getting A New Puppy!
Oh he sounds gorgeous!!! Cocker spaniels were one of the breeds i wanted when i went looking for my first dog 6 years ago, but then i fell in love with Migs and that was that. I can't wait to see piccies!

Clipping Blinkie :(
Well i just gritted my teeth and did the job i've been meaning to do for a week. My sweetie is clipped. Four flights off each side and you would think i chopped his wings off the way he's going. Ozzie was like the last time i clipped him though, and the next day he'd got used to the feeling and could fly short distances easily. I have to say i do enjoy Blinkie having to behave, it's quite a nice change, hehe. He's going to absolutely hate it when i let everyone out and they're flying all over the room and he can't join in. He's adjusting to not being able to spring from any perch to any perch in his cage too, he keeps aiming too far/high and falling to the ground, silly boy. Would you believe when he was playing chasies with me when it was cage time this afternoon, he flew to dads shoulder and yelled "STINKY BLINKIE"!! Yup, that sums up his behaviour lately. Hopefully this will knock him down a peg or two.

Clipping Blinkie :(
I won't clip him to the point of not being able to get short distances. I just feel awful cause he's my spoilt little baby who never gets in trouble. I keep the tiels partially clipped, and have clipped Fizzy and Ozzie in the past with no guilt. Blinkie has just squirmed into his own little place in my heart.

Clipping Blinkie :(
I really don't want to do it, but i think i'm going to have to clip Blinkie's wings. Lately he's been so naughty when it comes time to go in his cage, it can take up to an hour past the time i put everyone else away for me to finally trick Blinkie in his cage. I'm not sure what else i can do but clip his wings to slow him down. All my tricks that usually work (e.g. mirror, holding Ozzie hostage, etc) to get him to go away don't work well anymore, especially if i have them out during the day, he's better behaved if i'm putting him away late at night. Any suggestions before i clip my precious boy. I'll feel like an absolute monster doing it, but i can't be rounding him up for so long, especially not once i start school.

A New Buddy!
I'm sure he'll miss them. He went home yesterday. Blinkie seemed quite upset to lose his new buddy.
