had to listen to the last one 3 times to understand him! He says bollocks in a much higher pitched voice than any of the other words. He's a very clear talker!

That sounds really exciting! Are the chicks normal size or littler than normal?

The only thing i can possibly suggest is taqke him to an avian vet. Then the vet should be able to figuire out what the problem is and treat it. In the meantime you could get a photo and post it here, perhaps someone else on here has had a similar problem.

If you do continue to hand feed it then you'll need to remember that there's no product around that can match what it's parents can give it and it will develop slower than the parent raised chicks. I would try Lady's suggestion, how long have you been hand rearing the chick?

That's good that you'll get some new birdies still. Can't wait to see what they look like.

What's arsenic? Is it bad for humans cause mum literally eats all of an apple except the stem.

I also agree. Budgies are such great little creatures it's a shame they don't live longer. I always worry that Blinks won't be there when i wake up each morning.

Looks like a heck of a lot of eggs!

Cooked potato is fine and raw or cooked brocolli is good too.

I always thought that fruit seeds/pips were bad for birds?

I would move the soil away, i doubt it would be healthy. Better to be safe than sorry.

Blinkie has an iodine bell and a cuttlebone in a yellow mineral block. He nibbles the iodine one quite often, haven't seen him touch the cuttlebone/mineral thingy though.
  16. When they're about to hatch you can hear chirping coming from the egg.

The moisture is probably from the poopies. I've noticed it in my nest boxes too. Paper towel is a good idea but mummy bird will probably shred it up and kick it out, same would probably happen with wood shavings. Just clean out the poops each day and hopefully that'll help reduce the moisture.

Only a little bit as an occasional treat. Whomeal or wholegrain bread would be better but still only as a treat. Blinkie was helping me eat my sandwich this arvo, he thinks bread is scrum-didly-umptious!
  19. Well whatever he is he's gorgeous! I've never seen a cere like that before but i would probably guess male because it looks too dark to be female.
  20. Well i clipped Blinkie's wings but he can fly now and still loves me. :rip: I really think Blinks doesn't ccount cause i handled him from a baby anyway, my first budgie ever was from a breeder and unclipped and i tamed her no probs, she was great. Every budgie since i couldn't tame (clipped or unclipped) so i clipped Blinks wing to try and garantee myself a tame budgie though now i think about it i spent soooo much time with him it wouldn't have made a difference. It is nice now having him around me knowing he could be elsewhere.

Sorry to hear about the poor little guy. :rip: ((((hugs))))

Don't worry about the little acrobatics they do on the cage bars. I had one hen who would go into a corner, flip upside down between her legs and fall asleep. They are very flexible little critters. In baby budgies females will have a bluey white cere while males have pinky purple ones, it's often pretty confusing seeing as it's sort of opposite when they grow up. :fear

If the poo is building up like this i think you should take him to the vets. It could be something serious.

    That sounds so cute!
  25. Well budgies being the tough little creatures they are i think you'd find that there's very little you have to do to adapt a cage to make it easy for him to get around. I would think the main things would be placement of food and water dishes and that kind of thing.
