  1. Sorry Rainbow but that just went straight through my brain.

Budgies will breed when conditions are good, not necessarily when they are physically and emotionally ready. So if you provide a nest box and good food and water they think "there's lots of food, water, nesting area...better breed while conditions are good." They aren't going to think they're too young and not breed, that's your job. You shouldn't provide them with the nesting box until they are actually ready, they can't make that decision. Please take the nesting box out.

I cracked one of the eggs in Buzz's first clutch and then she smashed all the rest. I hope the remaining eggs are good.

What have you got against 'young pretties' Lin? You must have been a young pretty...probably still are but i guess we'll never know *sigh*.

Budgies that get their wings clipped before they learn to fly can have weak breast muscles for the rest of their lives which limits their flight. Maybe that's the problem.

Poor Scruffy! I bet he was only trying to help. Good on you for saving him!

Skye is a female who's gone out of breeding condition. The dark brown bit will flake off and her cere will go a whitish blue. Then when she comes back into breeding condition here cere will go brown again.

I think Buzz would actually appreciate a chance to care for her babies herself!

There was a really long list somewhere on here of safe fruits and vegetables. I'll have a quick look and see if i can find it. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....findpost&p=5418

He's a good daddy! : It's not usually that full, that was just Gherkin trying to prove he's not gay by being a good mummy...

Welcome to the forums!! As people have said, definitely don't breed unless you want to and have researched breeding thoroughly first.

Lots of scary stories!! I am scared to put Blinks outside at all at the moment because there are agro breeding magpies around. Yesterday they went as far as swooping Mickey and Buffy (dogs) who hadn't done a thing and were in our backyard.

Keep them separate. Is there any way you could put Eddy and Iris in a different part of the house?

That's a real change in attitude he's had!!
  16. You can hold the eggs up to a torch and if there are little veins showing then it's good. However, i wouldn't throw eggs away just because you can't see anything. I checked Sandy's eggs and thought only 2 were fertile yet so far i have 3 babies. Bobette is probably rotating the eggs well and you could be over reacting - like all us expectant budgie mummies do - just trust her.

Good reply, it's sad to think people actually only give their birds home brand seeds. :fear I hope they take all your advice.
  18. Bea replied to Daz's topic in Aviaries
A lot of people get those streamer things that hang in takeaway shops and hang them over their aviary door as an extra layer. Also a sheet of material or plastic can come in handy. :fear

Good stuff!! Blinkie has a little mirror treat dish, does yours have little beads across it? I find it, aswell as his bobble head birdie treat dish very handy getting him to try new things (like egg). :fear

I'm not sure but in all the batches i've had the first baby has been a boy and there's been 1 girl in each batch. Just some odd facts i think.
  23. Bea replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Just leave it till all the seeds on it are gone. Once they get used to it you'll find it won't take long for that to happen.

(Laughing out loud)!! When Blinks and siblings were babies and before they fledged i sometimes had 6 big budgies in one nest box!! Very smooshy!!

I agree with Lin, unless you see that she is really struggling i would leave the chicks with mum. After these babies leave the nest give her a really long break.
