  1. Yes!! I can't imagine you not knowing about genetics! :fear

Is that toy a mirror perch with a treat holder? Maybe he just doesn't want those other birdies to take his favourite place. His cere definitely says male though. Do budgies in single sex environments start behaving opposite to balance things out? :fear
  3. :fear Too cute!
  4. I will put it on a tea towel to absorb any drippy-ness. :budgiedance:
  5. Anyone got any bright ideas on how i can keep my bedroom nice and cool so that Buzz and her future family don't over heat? She is sitting on 8 eggs and i hate to even think how hot it'll get when the babies start to feather up! :budgiedance: Would putting a frozen gel pack on the lid of the nest box as well as leaving my window open do the trick? For the last few days i've just had the window open constantly and that seems to be keeping my room quite comfortable but it's sure to get hotter soon.
  6. Definitely seperate the budgies into breeding cages, the one time i tried colony breeding all my hens tried to butcher each other! :budgiedance: Even when i seperated them into breeding cages but put the breeding cages in the aviary they attacked each other through the bars. I ended up having to put them in my bedroom.
  7. She Lin, poor Tootie would be appalled to hear you calling her a him! :
  8. Oh yeah, IS...don't know why i wrote was.
  9. 1 - dominant pied because he has a pied spot, has markings on chest (recessive's usually have them lower) and he has a blue cere not the pink that he would have if he were recessive. 2 - greywing? lighter wing markings but body colour doesn't look diluted from this angle (face looks creamy but i think that's just my monitor?) 3 - golden face spangle? because isn't that Freckle and i'm sure that's what she is.

Two males would be a good choice. In budgies the females seem to be the more aggressive/dominant ones. I just replied to a question of yours in another post and you seem to want tame budgies, if this is the case i would start with one young male then once that's tame add another.
  11. If you want a 'pet' budgie you should try to get a young male budgie (about 6-8 weeks old) because they seem to be easiest to tame and the best talkers. I wouldn't get 2 females because they are more likely to fight and less likely to become tame. Start with one, tame it then if you still want another get one later on. That's what i would do anyway.

I think it'll be alright. With the folding door open it means the cool is spread out so when i walked from outside to inside there wasn't the usual cold rush, just slightly cooler. I've blocked almost 100% of the cold going on him by changing the direction of the breeze and with the door so he should be very comfy, more comfy than the poor birdies outside, they were trying to cool off by putting their wings out this arvo so i gave them some bathing water.

Summer is here and so is my family constantly whining about wanting the air conditioner on. Blinkie's cage is in front of it but to the side so i have convinced them to keep it set so the cold air is going straight out (along the roof instead of up and down) and pointing away from Blinkie's cage. I've also made it so the temperature doesn't get lower than about 22C as well as leaving the folding door into the front room open while Blinkie is in his cage (this covers the side of his cage facing the air conditioner) to try to stop any escaped coldness blowing in his direction. I would move the cage but because of Buffy it's not safe to put him anywhere else in the living room and i refuse to lock him in a bedroom. Do you think he'll be alright? I've kept budgies in the lounge room with the air-conditioning on before just not so close (but the air con was set colder and waving everywhere). I'm guessing i'm being a tad paranoid.
  15. You should probably feed her every 2-3 hours from 6am - 11pm with one feed at about 3:00am. Sprinkle some seed on the floor of whatever you're keeping her in so that she can start picking at that. From how you described her with feathers on the wings and tail and head but not body i'd say she's between 2 and 3 weeks old so she'll probably not eat too much seed for another week or so. Once she starts playing with the seed you could also sprinkle finely chopped veggies around with the seeds (brocolli buds, grated carrot, etc) so that hopefully she won't become a fussy eater. I would also add a bit of the handrearing mix to her weetbix because that has the important vitamins she needs to grow at a almost normal rate. I also think it's likely it's a she because inos are most often females. It's so great she's eating well!
  16. It really depends on the size of the aviary. The larger it is the more likely that combination will work.

Sweeping carpet?? Wouldn't that just grind the seed deeper into it and make it harder to get out?
  18. If you were to go to the vet they could show you how to feed it with a crop needle or they could give it a feed or two with a crop needle. Crop needles are tubes that are put down the throat straight into the babies crop so it at least doesn't starve. Other than that you sound like you are doing everything right, you could add some apple sauce into the handrearing mix cause this make it tastier for them and the baby might like it enough to eat more. Hope the little guy makes it.
  19. :(Laughing out loud): Gorgeous!

I'll have to have a talk to Blinkie about these pathetic looks he gives me when he's in his cage then, seems he gets a perfectly good amount of flying time! *runs off to have a long talk to Blinkie*

Blinkie gets usually at least 2 hours, sometimes more and occasionally less. I always feel bad when i see him in his cage and was just wondering how much time everyone thinks is reasonable.
  25. I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope that whatever she had wasn't passed on to Feliz.
