    Sweet birds, Welcome!
  3. I'v been busy the last few weeks and have just read about Omelette, very said to here about her passing RIP!
  4. Dean I know how you feel, I have five pairs down and so far one hen has died after laying 4 eggs and only one was fertile, another has eaten 2 of her eggs is now on 3 which are all clear. The 3 other pairs are all on six eggs each with only one of the pairs having some fertile eggs and now have one chick thats 4 days old. Yes I'm disappointed and hoping things improve and on a brighter note this chick will be my first chick to ring
  5. Price are down on good birds, and I know of some who have put reserves on there birds at auctions due to the lack of money there getting for them.
  6. Thats great news Patrick I too have paired up some with one pair now on two eggs. All the best for spring mate.
  7. No you don't, but you will pay more for these birds as there show birds.
  8. What sort of consistence do you make it to? I find mine goes like porridge if I add too much water and like glue it I add not enough. The egg and biscuit gets very sticky.
  9. Another auction so soon, with my luck at auctions I think I should stay away Not

  11. Welcome aboard
  12. They look great well done
  13. Cool, thanks
  14. Kaz I just did my first crop feed, and although It felt a bit clumsy I got the spark into his crop  I only gave him 1ml is this enough and how often should I give it to him? I'm going to give him your mix next in about an hours time, how much should I give him and how watery should it be? Heaps of questions I know, but I really what do to try my best for this bird. Cheers, Geoff
  15. Thanks Daz for your offer, your bird I got months ago is going great and I hope to put her down this spring He is still putting up a good fight, but still tends to shake some and he's off his food still. Thanks, Mate
  16. Thanks for all the advice it's very much appreciated.Because of where I live I was limited to what I could get so I put him on apple cider vinegar for the moment until I can get some sulpha.I keep the heat lamp on him all night and he looks okay but still not eating.Kaz lot 7 you are a lucky lady very nice bird and I thought it would have sold for a lot more then you got it for :)I can get some sulpha yellow for horses from the local produce shop is this any good? How do you give the sulpha to the bird?I'm now realizing how unprepared I am for sick birds.Even tho I'm in a club I don't get to many meetings due to distance and time, so thanks again for your advice.
  17. I hope they were not near my bird, what lot number bird did you get? My sick bird came from NSW apparently.
  18. I noticed his poop was very yellow and his vomit green, what are chances of surviving when sick like this?
  19. Thanks Kaz, I have put him in a show cage with a heat lamp, my local vet told me the same as you, keep him warm etc. He doesn't look good and if I lose this bird it will be the second one that I have lost from an auction in past 5 months. I final get a good bird and it's sick, he look fine at the auction, maybe I should just give up and count my loses, I feel very disheartened at the moment!
  20. I just check the birds and one of my really nice birds I got from the auction is throwing up and shaking some. Any advice? This bird is in quarantine. Not happy Jan
  21. I think I know who that person was What birds did you get?
  22. Sure did Kaz, I posted the info in the auction section
  23. First of all I would like to apologies to nubbly5 for not offering to bid for her  This is only my second auction and I'm still not very good at it , I get caught up in the moment of bidding and get birds I don't need I bought 11 birds with only 6 being really any good, blow, size etc. Got 2 Costa & Anderson birds, 1 Ernie Wise, 1 L & F Percy, 1 Brian Hollingsworth, I'v forgotten the others lol. My son bought 3 of the 11 with his own money, $20 each none of which are any good, but he also got caught up in the moment There in quarantine at moment and I'm hopping down the track they will breed for me. The cheapest bird of the day sold for $5 and the most $1300. Most of the experienced breeders were chasing big buff hens, the hens out did the cocks for price, so if you've got a good hen hang onto it, there worth heaps. The cocks out numbered the hens 10 to 1. I'm over the moon with some of the birds I got and please don't ask for photos as I have none lol. Anyone else get any?
