  1. As I have found out always start with the best birds you can afford. And it looks like you have some nice ones there especially Neo. Good luck with your breeding and keep us posted with your results.
  2. I'm all for the nationals and if I had a bird chosen it would be going with my prayers. I do know of people who have lost birds after they have returned from them tho and they have been devastated at the loss of there best bird. We can always improve on how things are done, and really thats what Kaz is asking us as show breeders. It's great to have these discussions on our hobby, and I like seeing the passion members have when talking about it. All the best to those sending birds this year and I'm sure Victoria will be the state to beat.
  3. Welcome Kimberly, your birds look very sweet

K&M I got my lacewings by breeding a Cinnamon Grey Green, split Lacewing cock to a Grey opaline spangle hen. This may not be the best pairing but it work okay for me. In one round they had 6 babies. I got 2 lacewings hens, 1 albino hen, 1 grey spangle cock, 1 grey green spangle cock and 1 cinnamon grey hen. You will need to purchase a spilt lacewing cock or a lacewing cock. Hope this helps.
  5. Hope you have a good one. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"

So thats what she is a cinnamon grey, I didn't no. Thanks.
  8. GB didn't know you were an artiest, what a nice picture you drew. I like your grey hen you bred and the others are very nice as well. I'll let the more experienced show breeders advise you on your Opaline cinnamon hen for your lacewing line. Glad we can all share our photos of our birds, it's very inspiring to watch them evolve over time
  9. Those lacewings must of been great quality. I'm happy for his family that the birds made good money. People in the know would not fork out big dollars for birds unless they where exceptional. The prices they sold for speak for them selfs.

Thank you Kaz. Matt I only got 3 from there first round last year and only one this time round. I'll try them again in spring if there in condition, thanks for your advice mate. Thanks K&M. Spangle does seem to lighten grey, even my grey green spangles are lighter then my grey green normals. Cheers.

Thank you Maddy, the lacewing has two younger sisters, so I'm hoping there as good or better. GB I still struggle with the feather thing, and I pair up more on there looks like size, blow, color, mask, then anything else. And thats why I ask you guys, so I can learn the in's and out's of what makes a good bird. So thank you all

There hard to get photos of, they never seem to stay in one spot for very long. I'll get some pics of two more lacewings I'v bred and an albino all are 3 months old. Thanks for your thoughts as I don't have anyone near buy to see how my birds are progressing. You guys are the first show breeders to view them

Thanks GB and splat. There a work in progress and I know it takes time to produce quality birds. Isn't funny how different all our tastes are, for me I like the looks of my grey even if he's not up to show standards. Cheers, Geoff
  15. It all sounds very promising, best of luck.

10 years for a budgie is a good innings.
  22. GB it can be very tuff mixing with people with different personalities. I for one do not mix with the so called big wigs, as I refuse to stroke there egos. Loosing a good bird is never fun and it makes you think what's the point of this show bird stuff, but just around the corner a cracker is hatching we all need hope thats what keeps us going. It's my faith in God that keeps me going not people, because people have always let me down and always will.

Welcome Brendan, as others have said it might be worth while getting her checked out first before purchasing another budgie. And if she gets the okay then get her a new mate. I would get a young bird so she can still be the boss and show him the rope's. I would get a male.
  24. The hobby is in decline world wide and Gerald S Binks is addressing the problems on Budgerigar.co.uk. When you put time and money into your birds you naturally want to get results from your hard work. Time is the biggest problem and thats why it tends to suit retired people. Where's the juniors in our clubs aren't they the future of our hobby? How many under 50's are there in your club, not many I would think, which make it hard for young families to meet others with kids so they can build friendships.
