  2. Me Sorry to dissapoint I think Jimmy
  3. Must oils and creams would contain less then 10 % avacado, check out the ingredients on it and it will say. I don't think it will do any harm though.
  4. I didn't throw the egg away, and she layed another egg yesterday. I wouldn't say it is normal sized, but it is bigger then the last one.... I will get some pcitures.
  5. Woops! I forgot hens cant be split spangle! Sorry That proves how good I am at genetics Will I get spangle hens and cocks, and normal hens and cocks?
  6. I thought the whole point of "Off Topic Chatter" was for that.... to talk about things that aren't about budgies. Maybe you should edit the description about only posting pictures NO.........read up the top Sorry.
  7. Keep him in with his parents, or put him where he can see his parents eating seed. You will find if you put him in with seed, he will pick and nibble at it. He looks old enough.
  8. You can see how hens have a paler cere, or it has white rings around the nostrils. You can see how the white bird has quite a solid pink colour, that is a male: Compared to a hen, which is quite pale and white:
  9. I think the last is a hen, possibly second to last also.

  11. Thanks! Sorry the pictures won't turn. I am only planning to keep the hens, as I have way to many cock birds. Am I right in saying all normal hens will not be split?
  12. And here is a video:
  13. I am planning to hand-rear the chicks just about the time they would be coming out of the nest. The cage is kept inside the house (as you can see the photos above were taken before the birds were in and it was set up properly) and the cockatiels have the choice to come out when I do my homework, for about 1-2 hours a day. Because I am only holidays right now, it is normally more then that. yes, photos would be good. if you've got the cage inside the house and the cockatiels have a couple of hours flying time in your room then it is a bit different as they can exercise ther wings etc., but still imagine they will have 3-6 babies....then the cage is definetely too small for the whole young family. My parents sent me some picts and a video(uploading now):Here is a couple pictures of them (They are outside because it is a nice sunny day there )
  14. Thanks! I know, birds are going cheap here latley. Hen:
  15. I think the dimensions would be about that. I have had cockatiels kept in it before, and the birds are perfectly happy. They can spread their wings, they are singing and they are courting each other. They are fine. It isn't like it will be long term, for more then a year or anything. And the birds do get flight time if they want. I am away from the house right now, but when I get back in a couple days, I will post pictures.
  16. This isnt the flight cage you guys are thinking about. It is a different one, made by the same company. The cockatiels can fly, and the perches are the right size for cockatiels.
  17. Hi All. I have a pair in the breeding cage right now. It is a Grey-Green Hen X Lt. Green Spangle cock. They have two eggs(second arriving today) and 3 foster eggs. I bought both birds from an auction last month, both $15. The hen is a green ring, cock bird a black. I will follow the chicks(If I get any) progress and moults. I am hoping to keep any normal hens, or spangle cocks. Mike and Rose Rafferty. Grey-Green Hen. 2007 Mike and Rose Rafferty. Light-Green Spangle Cock. 2008.
  18. I think it is okay for larger birds. Some birds like conures, IRN's, Macaws etc like to snuggle into snuggle huts. Just like a sun conure may snuggle into some-ones top, or crook of elbow. And some birds do sleep in them. So I wouldn't say I approve of them for budgies or finches, but they aren't the worst thing in the world someone has pampered their pets with.
  19. So should I just let her continue, and see what tommorrow brings? Or in this case, Tuesday if she lays regularly. Should I take the egg out, just in case their is a small possibilty of a chick forming? they have been enthusiastically breeding.
  20. Hi All I have recently set up a breeding cage for my cockatiels. I tried breeding in the aviary ( I have 5 cockatiels, 3 male and 2 female) and the same bonded pair, Skittles and Gadzooks, kept on breeding. They had 4 clucthes (over 2 years), all of them only hatching one chick. Each time the chick died. The oldest surviving chick was just starting to get feathers. So I decided to try my other pair. Introducing::: Dragon- Normal Grey split Pearl,Lutino,Pied and Cinnamon. I have had him from June last year, when I got him as a baby. You can see the transistion from diluted baby face into full lemon adult face.: Minty- I have had Minty for 2 years or so now. The picture of her fluffed up a bit (2008) was the first night I got her. She is a WF Pearl: Cage they are breeding in:
  21. Here is a picture compared to a sunflower: And here is one compared to a "normal" egg: And a couple shots of Daddy, proud of his lovley eggie.
  22. First egg! It looks VERY small, so I am HOPING it isn't fertile. Fingers crossed for more!
  23. I didn't feel to see if she had an egg, I was only thinking about it later that it may have been egg-binding. Do you think it may have been because of her age? red ring bird, she would be 1-2 years old. I think about 1 and a couple months, I remember the breeder said June bred bird.
  24. Hi! I recently discovered that a YF Blue hen of mine died this morning. She had three eggs in the nest, (which I have fostered, but they were quite cold) and she seemed like a healthy bird. I am wondering if it may be egg binding? She was VERY irregular in laying. Her second egg coming 4 days after the first, and the third coming 5 days after the second. She is a red rung bird. I found her in a funnny position. She had her beak clamped onto the wire, and she was lying on the bottom of the cage. Her wings were spread out, and her bottom half was kind of bought under her. Any Ideas?
  25. Just look at the photos then I did, but it takes a while sifting through 40 pages :budgiedance:
