What Is This Bird
Anne - black face is different to Melanistic Spangles. It looks as if the bird is having a moult. I wouldn't think black face since the throat spots look normal rather that all black. Is there any chance for bigger pictures? She does seem to have very strong markings around the head and neck area.

Ino Babies?

New Avairy
(Laughing out loud) you get the permit for the bird but not the place to house them :offtopic: now that is what I call smart. The aviary is looking super. Good luck with the pairing, I haven't starting any yet either, I was hoping to covert the garden shed before setting up any pairs. I got the info for my local council and the placement of my cage is... well breaking the rules. I can have up to 50 birds (wow) but the cage is meant to be 15m away from the neighbors houses and 2 m from the fence line. :dbb1: Let me just say to match those rules I would have to put the cage on top of my house :(Laughing out loud): I've had them there for ?? over a year? something like that and no one has complained, so if i keep the number to around what they are now I think I'll be fine.

I Need Help Asap!
All good advise given there. I will add that what you have described is normal behavior for a nesting hen, the poops become large and runnier. Once an egg appears some sit on them straight away and others once there are 2 or 3 eggs. You have to get over your fear of scaring her from the nest if you are going to continue them on this path. For the heath of the hen and future babies you need to check at least ONCE a day twice is better (morning and afternoon) . Do as Rexy said tap on the box so the hen knows your about then open the box.

Any Ideas ? Unusual Budgie Baby
I'm thinking back to my first thought on this and that the opaline gene is masking out the markings on the wings. In the last two (three?) pictures I can see th v mark of opaline in the back in the body colour. On a side note - yellowface type 2 grey might end up looking like grey-greens becuase of the bleed though but they are still of the blue line.

Opps sorry about that, I wonder where I got the pied idea from

When Will They Mate...
sounds like they are bonding well. A week or two is what it normally takes for the budgies to bond well before any mating if they didn't already have a bond.
-
Should They Mate?
they are all the same species and there is nothing harmful in letting them pair up. Most of my bubs (grown up now) are half show half pet, nothing wrong with them and I think they are a good size not overly large and not tiny.

Even More Flight Piccies!
I love the firs two the feet stuck out for landing
-
Colour Classification:
I say he is just a opaline spangle yellowface type 2. I can see the faint lines on the flight feathers, if he was a clearing the wings would be very faint colouring. Rainbows I believe also have to be a pied.

Trying To Breed Some Violets:
I would think he is a cobalt rather than mauve, they are a really dark blue/grey colour. Sky blues with a flash tend to have a slight green tint to them where as this boy doesn't.

Err, I'm Stuck
I agree with the first. As to the hen I was thinking maybe a spangle as well, but then looked at the tail which is grey not white as it should be for a spangle. She clearly has grey marking so she might be dilute. Could she be a pied as well?
