lovely birds. as to your question - they appear to be mostly pet style budgies (the smaller type) however your dominant pied hen could be from show stock.

I believe Macka is taking about the shape of the bird in regards to showing. agree with the colour as first thought grey-green

well that is something for you to judge based on the appearance of the hen and the amount of work that has been put into this clutch. But as you say the hen should have already started again before the youngester was completely weaned. I would consider resting her.

a yellowface can have flecks of yellow when young and moulting into the green look of a type 2. What is the colouring of the bird on the rump area or around the legs? Also under the wings can help with colour. young yellowface showing start of patches (nromal) goldeface still looking all green yet you can see patchiness in colour Grey-green spangle

i looked at the tail too to see if it was black or blue but the picture is too dark to tell. although looking at the patches they don't give the noramal grey tint as you would see in a grey-green..again could be due to the picture.

agree Liv -yellowface type 2, he is still a baby and by the looks of it just starting to moult, more of his fathers on the chest will start to turn green and his wings will show more yellow.

I would say cobalt not skyblue, the pied listed under this one is sky blue. this one is clearly darker. (in normal light not with the flash)

Just a question Karen - is this blue spangle part of the M.spangle family?? just that line seems to have faint cinnamon look to the wings as a chick turning to black in the moults. and from memory that was with any spangles from the group.

yes i know some birds can have faint iris rings, but the patterns with the rest of this bird matchs recessive pied. also to see the mark you were refering to i had to move my screen to a different angle to bright the screen, in the normal angle i only saw black.

err, no look at his eye then at the normal blue bird's eye to see the difference. What i believe you two are seeing is the skin of the eyelid shining up into the eye from the sunlight

the thoat spots will even out as she mouts into the adult feathers, chicks always have small and odd spots. there is something with the wings, is poor markings or another gene involed?? the flight feathers to me look clear of any markings, is this right?

yeah this one is a tricky bird and it shows a few traits of many types so a debate on what fits the most is going on We noramlly come to a result. As to the cinnmon comments - yes i can see it on the chick but not on the father

i'm not seeing any red eyes???? I say yellowface greywing/dilute as the father doesn't look cinnamon to me. but he could be split to produced cinnamon hens. any other siblings to this bird?

i would need a better picture of cole, from that shoot he could be noraml, greywing or cinnamon as the flash his playing with the colours, i can't see the flights or the tail. going on just the thoat spots i would think normal. Males can be split cinnamon and so if the chicks are cinnamon then they are all hens. NEAT - sounds right to me (with outcomes) males will be split cinny
