Very cute I'm glad it all worked out in the end :glare: And I'm with Lady in thinking they are both boys.
  2. Poor little Pickle :fear I hope he is better really soon. Maybe you need a new lady friend for him :glare:
  3. It sounds like scaly face which need treatment cuase it does and will spread to the others birds. Look up your phone book and call the vets in it asking for an avian vet, if that doesn't work try a normal one, they do study all types of animals they just don't deal with birds alot of the time.

Aww what a cutie he is....but it might be a bad idea to add to the flock while they are nesting. Not at all sure but I can jut picture fights happening. As to the egg laying of Donkey which was the start of this thread I wouldn't worry too much about it, the adding fake ones is great it might tell her that this is the place they need to go. Freckle laid about 6 outside the box before getting the hint when I added the only one found not boken in the box. (which she kicked out later.)

You should be able to get fake eggs for a pet shop, or if you have marble laying aroung the place they can be use too. (so I've read never tested it myself) I wouldn't use the other eggs if they are that old then they would be rotten inside which would not be nice if the hen breaks them.

I've never heard about this happening before, the first thing I would do Is give her a bath!! And clean out the cage from top to bottom. Now if you are Really worried about her health take her to a vet. After all this is your bird and we can only help with what you tell us.
  8. YAY Glad to hear that the little man is gettting better. Fingers crossed that he behaves and doesn't fall ill again.

How many birds do you have? Sounds like you have plenty of boxes about. So maybe Babe doesn't have a mate herself and wants one or maybe even Olives?? Is there a reason you want to colonise breed? The safest way to breed budgies is in breeding cages. One pair with a box alone, that way you know who the father is and no other hen can bother the mother either by breaking the eggs or even fighting over the nest kill chicks or each other.
  10. Teehee there should be maybe the breeders around here should post they birds up and let us pick what we think it is
  11. Your parent birds are split for blue. So the green shows up but they have a gene hidden from sight for blue. The two chick both got a single blue gene from the parents and the blue showed, the green baby only got one blue the other green and so shows up green, but he too is split for bluw.
  12. and really make sure you get the last one or else it doesn't (Laughing out loud). It's easy to read and understand which is very helpful.
  13. Old! (Laughing out loud) I"m not at all sure but by the time i got it was when i was getting my first budgie around the age of 8 and he had moved on to Chooks ages ago.
  14. Yep really old book. I got it from my granddad!!!

Interesting Idea, I wonder if the same utrasound machine would work. Well in looking about for you I found a couple of interesting sites, nothing at all to do with this

I saw one too I think i might have posted about it, i'll look about for ya. edit- okay sorry this is it here http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/1958/eggs.html But it only shows the outside and the colour of the egg at differant times. I wonder if anyone has been willing enough to kill a growing baby just to get pics if what it looks like at different times.
  18. Teehee I know that
  19. (Laughing out loud) trust me the picture as not been tampered with at all. I can't of cuase talk about what happened to the picture before printed I've never seen one with a white head and yellow feathers else where either. As to the yellow in the eye, maybe the print was crappy??? But it couldn't affect that much of the picture.
  20. Well then we are in trouble As i stated at the start, "And even to see how close experts can get with just a picture" So go for it both of you
  21. that the whole point of the topic Jess to have a go
  22. My reasons is simply becuase that is the colour listed to them. I know I'm not advanced enough to point out why that one is so and so and not such and such.
  23. (Laughing out loud) I'll give you half cedit any way Lin

I would leave the boxes until all are empty. If they have settled down and baged a box each removing one or two could cuase fighting to break out for the other nests. DOn't panic too much becuase you are removing the eggs, it's the rasing of the chicks that REALLY tire out the parents. Or if you wish you can shaked the eggs really hard or boil them so they don't hatch to give your laying hens something to sit on, or even buy some fake ones.
  25. Thought this would be a fun game to test the larning of those that wish to know more, or are learning. And even to see how close experts can get with just a picture :oliveb: Good Luck all. I'll post the answers in a week, or until beged endlessly for them
