New cage for my babies
I'm sure they will not know what to do with themselves and all the new room. I have to get some branches worthy for them to put in and som new toys to hang about yet, so they havn't seen it even. (so as not to get them itching to play in it ) So what do you all think, it's about twice the size very maybe close to three time the size of what they have now. It cost $250 aus but it had a 15% off I saw it and left it there then thought I really wanted it so when back the next day to get it and they had one left (the display one) so then i had to try and get it in my car already make, (Laughing out loud). I have a wagon so that was fine but I had two others with me at that time so the seats couldn't be put down. :(Laughing out loud): as you can tell we got there in the end.

Avariy size
IF you are looking for breeding cages have a look in your trading post (courier mail) for some second hand ones, sometimes they are nice and cheap since the owner is quiting breeding and wanting to get rid of all the stuff.

No worries. Keep us uptodate with your little ones

Worried
A lot of hens get thinker ceres which is normal compaired to males, yet the fact that one nostril is smaller is worring since it may be imparing her breathing. I myslef would take a trip to the vets, simply becuase of the nostil issue. Good for you looking over your bird and taking note of any slight change, this type of action could save your little fluffballs one day.

THEY KILLED MY HEN WITH EGGS DUE TO HATCH
Since you don't know which of your remaining birds are the attacker you need to rethink you situation, and as all above me have said giving them separate breeding cage (any cage with box added or attached) so as to stop the fighting. Eggs can be fosters, but like eterri said unless either of the other two hens took over brooding I think they would be cold and any deveopling babies would be dead. But if one has taken over the box and eggs then they can be moved with her into the new cage, with a chance of hatching. It must feel really bad to have this happen on your first time breeding :budgiedance: I'm sorry for your lost with the to hens and fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

too young to breed?
okay first we need to roughly work out the age of the birds. You have had them for 5 months. Where they all young then. As in did they have bars coming all the way down their head to meet their ceres? Budgies can produce young from around 6 months and onwards, yet are not ready mental for them and this is when troublesome mothers start in. Leave the babies, not feedig correctly, plucking or attacking them. As to the cere colours the male might be out of season so you might not have any furtile eggs from those pairings. Hope this helps and by all means keep asking questions :dbb1: Also is there any picture that we could see?? It may help work out age for you or it may not either way we all love to see pics

Overgrown Cere
Some hens get cere that are a lot thicker than normal. If it is not hurting her or affecting her breathing I think you don't a worry. Of cuase if you are still worried seeking a vets advise will help sort out the issue

Latest pics of Frankies chicks
I think she is fine they are not sitting at an odd angle for wings. Fidgit (very cool) may have just been moving when the picture was taken they move there wings about for added balance it seems, or that is what i thought while watching mine grow up.

No Eggs Hatched
There are many facotrs that can cuase a breeding to fail - such as the hen or male in in the right condition to breed, age, succuss of the mating. 18 days is the average they can hatch anywere from day 17-23. They hatch the same as when they where laided every two days apart so if you have counted to 18 from the first egg you have week or so until the last one is due to hatch. Keep waiting for a while yet. I have to ask- you have read alot about breeding and careing of chicks and parents before starting this right? Just seems this is an easyish question.

I am new
Well I have only breed in single breeding cages (well once anyway) But I would think remoivng any future eggs from now or or even adding fake eggs to the box so the hen has somethin to sit on will help. Then as the babies and eggs that are there now fledge and leave the box remove them. ihopefully someone with more insight will come soon to help you more.

First Baby!
around the age of 4 weeks they start to explore the outside world but as you have seen not use very stable on their feet. This might be a good idea becuase you don't want the little guy hurting himself and moving the nest may upset the mom, but you could also do this.

I'm with Chirpy get the press on to this local news shows and papers really get behind this sort of thing and if any of your birds turn up then you have a better chance of getting them back. breeding condition
the hen is ready to breed from 6 months like the male BUT not mentally. They are like a human teenager at this point. Mine NEVER ate the cuttle bone until in the box with eggs appearing then she dug into it as did my cock to help her. Adding the box will also help with getting the interested I think from what I have read around here :bluebudgie:

nest boxes
Wow Daz that is some serious work there. Some people are crazy. Passing too thank :fear

nest boxes
Then why not breed in single cages. That way you can pick which ones to to breed together making 100% sure then that none are realated and with only one pair in a cage together there will be no fighting over the nest, and lest risk of chick death over fighting hens or cocks. Also then you only breed the numbers you are wanting to. ps- if you wish I'll take Cloud and trudy off your hands they are cuties.

abandoned chick
if it is really bothering you wake the mother up, she would be able to live with a rude awaking in the night. For something important like this. Did you see the foster mom feed it at all? is there any sound coming from the box?
