  1. WOW can't wait to see that last one now!! What a surprising colour. (no little black dots on body or wings!)
  2. Mine is better and still kicking it out in Tweetaville. She did have a different issue. Can you tell us the meds you were given? I have also had to med the whole flock becuase of an upper respiratory infection and was given Doxy-T to mix in the water for a month (or just over) Via the mouth is always a better option with birds becuase of the non-drinking thing.
  3. I'm with Cheeky in loving the ozzie one. (first picture) Can I just say in the grey ozzie's cere looks like a hens! Mickey looks great in black and white.
  4. Cheeta you are a lucky girl, love the name too. Bubbles I don't think number 4 is a spangle the two middle tail feathers are black not white.

So very cute. I love the pied yellowface in the second lot
  6. Handling them from the start and once a day becomes a routine that mum will settle into and (if anything like mine) will try to stop you from doing by sitting tight or attacking you. Just be gentle and use a pen to move her I mentioned handling when they where just coming from the box, but I meant to do this a LOT more than before to tame them. I find this is the real learning time to either fear or like humans. Having handled my daily from at least week one when they have fluff starting to show, helps at this time. The book I think is meaning to start weighing them to check they are gaining.

Yes it will be good to get a check over with an avian vet, but since you have seen a tumor before and commented on that this is even filling all over it sounds like she is overweight. I had one overweight bird that my vet told me to change the diet to finch mix and have also been told canary mix does the same trick. This might be all you need to do as well.
  8. I always wondered about the you shouldn't breed for Fun" idea because to be it is fun. Yes you look at the healthy and care of the birds first but overall it's enjoyable to watch the eggs turn into pink blobs into pin cushions into beautiful gentle budgies (loved your comment cheeta ) I'm just like the rest of you, I love the idea of seeing the colours that come out and working out which pair to match and so on.
  9. I'm sorry he isn't feeling well after the trip. Do you know what he was given with the needle? Keep him in the warm room like you were doing, the heat helps them work against the illness more rather than trying to keep themselves warm. I was told by my vet that around 40 degrees was about right for them. But I was using a bed lamp right next to the cage so they could be as close or as far away as they felt they needed to be. To give the meds hold him gently, bring the dropper from the side of the beak for better control. I was told this way again by my vet when I was using a syringe to give meds via the beak. I know you feel bad but it's up to you to get this meds into him to help.
  10. I would try a bit of one on one time with him in a small (non shiny) room.
  11. Thank you so much for the pictures. S/he is going to be stunning once fully grown.
  12. Interesting that no pied spangles are showing up. Golly is a nice one and I agree number three will look like Crystal.
  13. It will not hurt her to have them gone. In a way it's good they didn't hatch (no need to worry about care for little ones in that small space) but I can understand the disappointment as well.
  14. Beer Belly It's great to see they are all happy together.
  15. Golden face is used when the bird look almost like a normal green, while yellowface is used when you can see patches of green and blue.

If the hen is young or this is her first time an extra day can accord before the next egg. BUT I would warn your friend to keep a close eye on her for signs of weakness or resting on the cage floor. This would mean she was egg bound and needs to be taken to an avian Vet Immediately. They are throwing the egg out becuase they don't see it as theirs, she is still cleaning the nest site to make it hers and by putting the egg in she thinks another hen is taking the spot. If the egg is fine put it in a safe spot for the next little while and when she starts to lay in the box it can be added to the pile.I had a hen that laid eggs out of the box a few time before working out what to do correctly.

That's great to hear Thank you for the update.
  18. You also put clearwing in the last one which isn't right. But 5 out of 6 is great

Hi bigyin and welcome Budgie don't need a lot of water and so many don't see them drinking. If you give them any green (lettuce, sprouts etc ) they will get water from them. But the spray is still a good idea.
  20. Some of these young are going to look great I have my fingers crossed for you.
  21. Wow they all look stunning! I think that last one is going to be super cute
  22. Also to help stop them problem add a bedding of shaved wood (fount at pet shops) even if you added some at the start and the hen removed it all, they tend to leave it alone once the babies have arrived.
  23. They can get cranky with the older chicks when he want another round but it's not that often the baby dies. This will be when the older ones spend most of the day out of the box but still want to sleep in it. By that stage it is the dad that is feeding them. You can give a smaller cardboard box for them to crawl into if attacked. Or if all the babies are old enough (4-5 weeks) you can remove the box.
  24. I understand now the bells are great too. I use the same sort of bells. Good luck with the quails too. I didn't notice your location until the word "Weiros" Only the Western Australians call them that. You may see Teil used else where on the boards (it's the same bird)
  25. Wonderful post It's the simply ease (of both writing and understanding) that we use the term 'green' But that doesn't mean we should completely forget the correct line of thinking on how these genes work.
