My Daughter's Pet Budgie?
I'm still seeing only a green bird, there is only green feathers not a mix of green and blue like ou would see in a YF.

Update On Baby
I so glad she is well, and it sounds like you feel more relaxed about her health and plans for her future care now with this knowledge.

English Vs. American Keets
I'm sure they will breed. Make sure both are in condition from breeding (dark blue and dark brown cere) and give them the time to bond.

My Daughter's Pet Budgie?
Yes Cheeta is right, spangle are not really reverse in colour but the black insides of the feathers are reduced to a thin line. It is sometimes when you say reverse people click on what you are trying to tell them. I think he is a green not a blue looking at the yellow on the head and neck, there isn't a differance in deapth of colour that you normally see in Yellowfaces and Golden faces. Don't forget the green bird still have the blue in the feathers and a flash can cause this to show more than the natural colour.

Scary Morning
yes it was lucky they didn't get out. I can't say for sure when the door opened but I don't remember using that door to the cage yesterday or the day before. Daz- I've been waiting about 3-4 months for a net to be made for me with some netting I brought. It was my second thought this morning "I wish I had that net" then I got to work on finding other ways on getting them.

Switching To Water Bottles
I havn't and have thought about it before. I can't recall where I read it but somewhere on line i read that they learn fast on how to get to the water.

Scary Morning
No it wasn't a good start. After it was all over with I remembered that Marine (their dad) also got out of the cage one night and was flying all around the house, he wasn't spotted on top of the fridge until AFTER the door out side was opened. That was a scary time too. As you can see I can do silly things like leave doors open when I think they are shut. One reason I have the avairy padlocked, I don't leave that door until I know that lock is closed.

Scary Morning
Today I was awoken by family tell me my birds where loose. I freaked thinking they meant the ones outside and my mind was racing on how I was going to get them. But it turned out (thankfully sort of) that it was the ones inside the house. Two of the four still in the sale cage had gotten out sometime over the night and were now fling around maddly in the garage where the cage is. My cat was trying to get through the screen door to them and the man hole for the roof was open!!!!!!!!!!! A small door on the side of the cage was left open, the scary thing is I don't remember useing that door in the last two days! and the garage had been open for some breese. Going to the cage to shut it Cupid almost joined the others in the fly around. After only a 3-5 minutes I was able to get one and put her back in the cage. Yet the last ( I think it was Opal, I didn't think to check leg rings when putting them back) one kept flying around and around and around ecaping me and the towel I had trying to catch her with. I was worried she was going to find the man hole any second. Finally my father got her in a lace table coth. Both were stress and panting alot but after 10 -15 minutes had calmed down and having a nap after that morning workout. I don't want that to happen again any time soon

Not Sure If This Is Ok?
Yes sometimes the males can be strong headed at the start and the hen if not ready will tell them off. Just keep a close eye on them as you have and be sure to check on them if you think the male has some injuries.
-
Cere Is Changing
yes it can be a sign to watch out for signs of breeding again.
-
Cere Is Changing
This sounds normal, hens lose the brown colour on their cere when coming out of breeding conditition. They get a whitish blue cere at that point. It will stay like this for a while, maybe 3 months and slowly start to turn brown again.
-
Sexing Recissive Pied
I belive like the others that one on the left is female. I've never seen a male (young, old and changing from pink to dark blue) that pale in colour. That cere looks almost white to me.

Let The Breeding Begin!
oh good to hear things are moving along, three weeks is the top end of normal for time timers.

A Million Questions (part 1)
I think you are wonderful taking in al this reading and information to better care for your birds now before the issue becomes too big to handle. Sperate or keep together: This is up to you, many state and I agree that I can be easier to tame a bird on it's own but separating these two now would mean you would have to work through the break up period which is around a week. It seems to me you are doing well with them together if cupid is already willing to put a foot on your hand for food. Cage door: Maybe put a bit of oil on where it rubs to make it move easier. Exercise: This can come in many forms from playing with toys in the cage and running over different types of perches in the cage to flying around a room. If you wish to let them out at the stage they are now use a small room and check for hazards such as windows and mirrors. Sometimes for the first while this new freedom is stressful to the birds. Breeding: as you have learn pet shop worker are not all that clued in one what is needed for different birds. Finches do make their own nest from leaves and grasses but budgies and other parrots (from Australia at lest) use hollow branches in tall trees. The nest box we give acts like that branch. Psyche had found a spot she was happy as a nesting site in the pet shop and picked a mate. You have since removed her from that spot and so stopped her cycle of egg lying. Make sure her belly or vent area isn't swollen from a held egg. The fact the shell as soft means she hasn't a lot of calcium in her body to form strong shelled eggs. I would think that means she also doesn't have a lot of vitamins and minerals in her body that is also needed for healthy bubs and parents. Have they got a cuttle bone, an iodine bell? Do they eat fruit and veggies? edit to add - lovey and myself seem to have posted at the same time so forgive us if we have stated the same information.

My First Egg!
Aww first egg joy It's always great to read. You might not want to disturb but just be sure to check on her each day, she is going to be spending lots of timein that box for around a month now.
-
Whet To Do Now?
that would be nice I remember I wanted to ask before if you have been handling this bub heaps. At this age you would have nothing to fear from hurting him and the more you handle now the more tame he will be.
-
Check List
Travel or hospital cage if the breeding cage is too large to take. Bent teaspoon or feeding young quickly if need be. I'm sure there is more but that is all I can think of right now.

Whet To Do Now?
so only one egg hatched? I'm glad the chick is doing well, he would be around 4 weeks now which is a great time for him to be venturing out of the box. Make sure to keep an eye on mum and dad they will be ready soon to start another round and may harm the chick. If you don't want her to have another round you can simply remove the eggs when laid (she will not be upset about this) and remove the box when the chick is old enough to sleep outside. The colour of the chick doesn't tell gender. Dad just had the dominant genes of the pair. Look at the cere on the nose if it is a smooth bright pink you have a boy if it is purply/blue/white/pinkish look you have a girl. Names: Sweetie, Sugar, Tweety, Lucky, Cupcake,

Addled Eggs
very cute birds :hap: love the opalines. DOn't judge the gender simply from bites, the only baby I've had that has bitten be super hard was male.

My Little Birdie Family
Hi and welcome to the place All your birds look great and i'm amazed at how active Baby looks to be at the age of 15 years. Once quantine is over with she might help as a taming tool. In budgie world it's monkey see monkey do. She looks like a greywing to me, which the name for all you discribed above. Cupid and Psyche both look Olive to me ( if their tails are blue like I saw in the pictures) and at least over the age of 6 months, looking at their ceres and iris rings in the eye. After this age if the bird doesn't have a ring marked with the year of birth it's impossible to work out their age. Psyche is also an opaline - this is when their wing are the same as their body colour. Hope that wasn't too much information straight up Have a look around and feel free to ask question on anything and everything.
