Not A Good Cage
Before you go out to buy a new cage....make sure it is not like this. Budgerigars are not Helicopters. They like to fly forward not up. This is a better cage but the perches should go across the cage not along it.

Broken Egg
Thanks guys. One is due to hatch tomorrow and the other on Sunday. I hope they will be okay. It will the last time this year that Bluey and Spnagle will be breed. They gave me two beautiful Chicks. Tiny and Chirpy

An Interesting Observation
The ultimate trust. You must be blessed. George trusts me. when he flies he will fly around the room and land back on his cage or he will fly to me and chatter in my ear.

Great Carrots!

Recessive Or Dominant?
As nerwen was saying it the dispersal of the colours through the body. Mostly lower half would be recessive.

Quick Question..
Some breeder will only breed from Autum to Late Spring. Some will breed all year round..But not with the same birds.

Recessive Or Dominant?
Remember Lin this is to my eyes. The beak is orange - Pied. The Colouring on the body is not restricted to the bottom half. Also the head banding appears to go right across the head not just on the side. I can't see the nasel rings of a female so it must be a male. Here is Huey. As you can see he only has coour banding on the bottom half. The beak is orange but the head banding is only on the side. He is a recessed Sky blue Pied. Two more reccessive pieds. Razzle George

Air Tempature
You guys will have to remind me....snow is that soft white stuff that falls from the sky. The closest I get to snow to the ice in the freezer. The coldest it gets in Brisbane is 4deg c (40deg f) in winter at Night. Day time it does get down to 18 deg C (65 deg f)

Breeding
Wow they must really like breeding. The Breeding instinct is brough forward when conditions of Food, Water, lighting and a secure place to nest is achieved. But with yours, they don't seem to need a secure nest. You must in some way give them the security they need to start breeding. Are they kept in a cage that is in a corner or somewhere that is "Safe". Maybe have the cage near an unopened window so that they think they are in an open field. Other than that, I'm stumped

Breeding Cages

Big Budgies
The ones I have I got from Big W. Just electronic ones for baking. I can zero them to add things. I have a carry cage to transport the birds if need be. All I do is put the cage on the scales and zero them and then put the bird in and read the amount. Easy. If you don't have a scale that can be zeroed. just place the bird in a paper bag and then weight it. The bag can be weighted afterwards and the weight subtracted from the original. George, Angel and Chirpy are happy to just hope on and let me weight them.

To Trill Or Not To Trill?
Sunflower seeds are good to give your budgies in Autum and before Show times to "Fatten" them up. .....But of course with everything in life it should be given in moderation. Like Sausage Rolls

Is He Sick?
Here one to throw in... Some so called experts....(Vets and Major Breeders) are say that if you have the budgies on pellets, it's the closest to a full diet. Fruit and Vegtables are good to add to suppliment any fibre requirements but you don't need to give them any seed. Pioneers of Nutrition In spite of these limiting factors, we now have more information from which to build a nutritionally complete diet than at any other time since the domestication of the Budgerigars. Pioneers in the field of nutrition such as Roudybush, Ziegler Bros., Lafeber and Purina have contributed immensely to the establishment of adequate and safe nutrient levels in the process of developing pelleted diets for psittacines. Commercial enterprises such as Vydex Ltd. and in addition, individually funded research projects conducted by veterinarians and college researchers have begun to define the optimal parameters of a nutritionally complete diet. While not all of this work has been specific to Budgerigars, a great deal has been. What has not been specific to Budgerigars has been directed toward parrots in general. For the first time we have a body of knowledge concerning nutritional requirements of a closely related family of birds (psittacines) and we are less reliant on figures extrapolated from poultry research in developing a Budgerigar diet. And yet, even as we speak of these enormous strides, there remains a poor availability of good diets in the Budgerigar hobby. Exotic birds, to include the Budgerigar, are the only group of domesticated animal or commercial livestock that are not fed commercially prepared diets based on known dietary needs on a routine basis. Pelleted and crumbled diets, which have been developed for the Budgerigar in an attempt to improve "delivery" of a predetermined balance of nutrients lack acceptance by the majority in the hobby. Obviously some of this reluctance to accept commercially prepared Budgerigar diets has been a result of an acknowledged lack of specific research on Budgerigar nutrition and reliance on poultry requirements by many of the commercial manufacturers. But even this has not been the real deterrent as a large number of knowledgeable breeders have routinely included commercially prepared turkey, game bird, and chicken crumbs in their custom soft food mixes with excellent results. No, the real reasons for a lack of acceptance go beyond this, and the responsibility lies not only with the aviculturist, but with the manufacturers. ---Taken from The MasterBreeder.

Big Budgies
It's good to every so often weight them so if you think they are losing weight you have something to go by. My budgies range between 34 to 57 grams. That a big difference. I know that if Spangle who is 57 comes in at 44 than I have a problem. Also if Chirpy comes in at 40 grams I know that he is putting on weight. He is currently 34 grams.

To Trill Or Not To Trill?
Bek, Trill is okay but not on it's own. That is to say that any Commercial Budgie mix is okay as a base diet but they also need vegtables and friut and calcium (Cuttlefish bone) good clean water etc.....
