  1. If the eggs are fertile, leave the hen to raise them herself.
  2. We had a yellowface lacewing spangle on the bench on Sunday... Where do I show that one?

Yes it's a pitty as I have a show on the 20th but the ones on Sunday will be too old for it. I have the next group coming through, so will see how they go.
  5. ...I sit back in admiration.

If it's not listed it would then go in the AOV. All Other Varieties.
  7. Glad it didn't turnout to be a FD. Interesting when nature gets it wrong...
  8. From 17 Cages, I breed average 135 chicks a year. (over 150 last year) I pair up just after the nationals (June) and the last pair goes down by the 1 week in November. They get 2 rounds of chicks or two clear rounds and your out.. eg 1st round clear , 2nd round chicks, 3rd round clear.... out. So by end of February it all done.

Yes here it's 3 years AND 8 points at one club , not combined... I've done my 3 years, now just need the points.

not that easy renee, you need 8 points in one club to go up. I only got 3 points out of that result. That means i have 4 in my club. I have 6 in SCBA and will be showing in 2 weeks time. If I get 2 more points at that show, i'll go up then.

  12. I have found times, too, through the year that the birds breed better. So why waste time and effort breeding birds in off times? I believe in very selective breeding for quality and not for quantity. Why try to breed hundreds just for that one that will do well in the nationals?
  13. ... I don't believe that they need to be a smaller variety, I believe they are behind. Any Clearwing on the bench is an improvement on the birds back in the 60s & 70s We just have to get them up to the present sizes.
  14. I believe that the fact is, birds will breed when they want to and if the ring issue date falls in line with this, it is more logical.
  15. Liv I'm surprised to see them lasting so long. You must be doing something right.... Oh and yes, it looks like no 4 on the way.. Sorry to say.
  16. If a bird is rung today and is breed at 6 months. the off spring then breed at 6months, then showed the bird rung today at the next approprea nationals, it would be a grand parent. Current I know of a breeder that had both father and son in the team for their region.
  17. ... one reason I don't breed clearwings. I am trying to get Recessive Pieds and DECs to the size of my Spangles.
