Nubbly ... Now I know how you get your birds so nice... it's the Cattle medication! Now I know I heard a MOOOOOO in Burnie
  4. 50% in the Genes and 50% through the beak.... something you hear.. I do believe that good nuetrician must start before mating so that all the goodness can be put into the egg by the hen. This gives a good start to the chick's life.

I help run a Medium to Large Electrical Contracting Business employing 20 to 40 electricians depending on work.. My main part is Estimatiing and Project Managment of jobs from $100,000 to $2 million. Due to the down turn in the International Finacial Market and the slow down in the Austrailan building industry, it has meant that I have to work longer and do more Tenders to aquire work for my men.. This has mean less time for the birds. But that is now changing with me refocusing more on them. This is where I work.

Well an update.... I started with the fancy at the end of 2005 and now have been elivated to Intermediate Breeder.. I still like to look over the "plan" to see if I would change much. ... Maybe. but the enjoyment is still there and so is the excitment

There is a current thought on Nest boxes and Concaves so I thought I'd bring this topic back... Does any one have photos of the type of boxes they use. My nest boxes have some what changed for these above.
  13. Thought i'd revisit this topic... I don't weight the chciks any more and can tell by there size and age how they are going... If i can't ring the chick at 8 days (leg too big) i'm very happy and excited.

I use both... I have a 40mm timber with a concave and then add a large handfull of sawdust... Old habbit I supose. Some hens throw all the sawdust out and use the concave some don't.

It might be good to see if your Dad can spend 5 minutes and show him this Forum. When he understands that most of us will and have paid more than a weeks wage for a single bird, that we may know something of what we do. My largest bid was over $1100 for a bird... missed it. Dam But I have paid $1000 for a pair, the Cock cost me $150 and the hen $850. No one likes to throw that sort of money away doing something that we don't undertand. We do care and we do give out quality advice where we can.

  21. But that is where we enjoy the fancy.. looking back at old photos of our birds and the knowledge that we had and to say to ourselves... Yes I have learnt something and it shows int he birds..
  22. I like looking back over the old topics just to see how we have learnt things... When I started I couldn't tell the difference between a recessive pied and a dilute.
  23. Test mate the bird to a normal when it is old enough.. DF Dom will give 100% SF Dom. If it is a SF Dom it will give 50% SF Dom and 50% normal.
  24. ....... so what is all that white stuff.... Did you have an issue with a wool factory... no I've never seen snow.. Tasmania last year didn't turn it on for us
  25. The term English and American really only applies to the look of the bird. English os more a buff bird and American is more a Yellow (tight feahter) bird. I have to agree with Nubbly, we are always trying to improve the variety , wether it's a Clearwing, recessive pied or Dominant Pied. I believe that it is possible to breed a Recessive Pied or clearwing to the standard and sze of a Dominant pied or Spangle.... it won't be easy or quick, but I do beleive it is possible... so why not with the "American" type bird.
