...a bit small shannon. I like a bit more length, shoulder and width of cere. But she would be good for breeding.

New Avairy
Hi Derek, yes i'd probibly tile. Bob has a very good set up. It's bigger than mine. 6m x 6m so it goes to prove that you don't need a big set up to breed good birds. Bob just knows how to go about the business of breeding top birds.

Have A Guess At This One.
Elly I'll give you a clue. Look at the beak of any bird (budgie) If it is orange. It is a recessive variety. In particular carring recessive pied. I used to also take note of the feet but there are some normals with pink feet starting to appear on the bench.

okay it's a Recessive Pied Spangle. Sire was a Recessive Pied and the dam was a Spangle Split Recessive Pied. Now what class can I show this under. Here is the Australian Standard to help you. Look it up in the matrix.

He may have just hurt himself.

If the branch was a new experience for them, it could take some time for them to start to chew. Taking it out is the best thing You'll have to monitor them. Should All Fit Hens Breed?
Well the answer to that is yes but in reallity it is no... Working with livestock is not a text book. I pair up when the hen is coming into season and appears to be fit and active... should she breed. Yes but some times it's no. She may not like the suiter I have picked for her. She may not like the surroundings or the nest box...

New Season
I got bored with the old ones..... okay I tried a change and stuffed them up with a router.. So I had to replace them.. The new ones will protect the young from an Atomic bomb, earth quake and a cyclone.. Should do... they are the largest and heaviest I have ever made. 12mm Ply is the basis to the design. The internal is the same as I used last year... I was happy with lest year so don't want to change the internals. The thicker exterior keeps the chicks warmer and helps the hen with the humidity in the box. Also there is better ventilations in the side.

What Mutation?
The face and collar are so brillent in yellow it makes me think there could be yellowface there. If you test breed, it should be to a normal blue, but remember that if the opaline is not split blue the off spring could all be green and still be masking yellowface. if you pair to a yellowface some of the offspring could be double factor yellowface which look like a normal white face skyblue. Bit of a mistery, isn't it

New Avairy
Hi Daz As you know I have visited your aviary a couple of times now. If you had your time over again, what would you do differently, if anything. What would you change with the electrics? Would you consider running water and a sink. By the way congratulations on all the council approvals. Derek Sorry Derek I just found this one. Some of the things I'd do differently, besides a larger aviary: I would have lifted the whole aviary one brick higher for better weatherproofing. I would have had the exhaust fan separate from the lighting. At the moment the fan will only come on with the lights and if it is hot enough. I would have liked it on durinng the very hot nights. I would have put a better dimming system in. Apparently Henry George has a good one and has invited me over to look at it. Plumbing the filtered tank water into the room. Besides these, I am very happy with the set up and it works fine. Hi Daz, The way I interpreted this post is that you moved the breeding cabinets with birds in there is this correct? Did the birds have eggs and chicks? If they did when you moved them did they become stressed or stop sitting on the eggs etc? Is it too risky for the chicks and eggs Thanks nitsuD Hi NitsuD No some of the birds were breeding with eggs and chicks when I moved them from the garage to the new breeding room. My son and I were very careful when we moved the breeding cabinets. I have no loss of fertile eggs or chicks.

What Mutation?
Green Opaline, might also be masking yellowface.

I have my quarantine area in the garage just for convenience.

Mice Issues..argh!
Don't use normal mice traps as you will get the birds as well. There are traps for mice that catch them live. These are good for the birds.

On the 20th May this year I started my own journey. I left home at 7:00pm to drive up to a close friend and mentor, David Ganzer. This was only a 20 minute drive but a start of a journey of way over two thousand kilometers and to meet many famous and kind people. I arrived at Dave's place to spend the night and to start the trek to the Nationals in Burnie Tasmania the next day. We woke at 4:30am to start to pack the South Queensland Team into the carrying cages for transport from Brisbane to Launceston via Melbourne. The two cages and a travel cage for some sale birds were packed quicker than we expected and we started the 45 minute drive to the Brisbane Airport. The birds were booked in to the Airlines by their due time of 6:00am and we had the car parked away in long term parking. After a delayed wait due to fog in Melbourne we arrived just after 11:00am. The flight across Bass Straight was uneventfully and we landed in Launceston 15 minute late. The birds had arrived and we left for the 2 hour drive to Burnie. We traveled though some beautiful country sides of rolling hills full of sheep and in the back ground the magnificent Western Tiers, a mountain range that runs up the west coast of the island. We arrived at our destination to find Burnie a sleepy town that nestled into the north shore of the island just west of Devonport. That night we dinned at a friendly fish and chip restaurant on the beach with some of the nicest people you could meet. There was Allister Homes and his wife, Roy Blair and his wife. Jim and Joy Fletcher, Bob Bourke. The next day was a sight seeing day down to Queenstown, out to Strahan and back to Burnie. That night it was the Meet and Greet for those that also came from around Australia for the occasion. Seeing good friends such as Gary and Deloris Armstrong was one of the high lights of the trip. I must say it did take till the next day to catch up with Gina House who had a bad trip to the nationals. But still looked as good as ever. The next two days were a mixed bag of celebrations as our team won and disappointment as they lost but always around good company. The nights were again a time of catching up with old friends and an opportunity to make new ones. The rest of the week was made up of sight seeing to Cradle Mountain, Sheffield, Dr Harry Cooper's Farm, Longford, Aurthur River, Smithton, Swansea and all the site in between. Derick and Deborah Poole welcomed us to their house and than to stay with them the night in Swansea before making our way back down to Hobart and the flight back to Brisbane.... I enjoyed the country side, the food, the atmosphere, the great company and ..... All from the power of a little bird.- It's Your Fault!

A parakeet is a term for any one of a large number of unrelated small to medium sized parrot species, that generally have long tail feathers. The Budgerigar or budgie comes from Australia. They are common and popular pets throughout the world. In the U.S. the term "parakeet" is commonly used to refer specifically to this bird. This is imprecise because there are many different species of parakeets. The term Grass Parakeet or Grasskeet refers to a large number of small Australian parakeets native to grasslands such as Neophema and Princess Parrot. The Australian Rosellas are also parakeets. The term Ringneck Parakeet refers to a number of African and Asian parakeet species of the Psittacula genus. The Alexandrine parakeet, is one of the largest parrots commonly referred as a parakeet.
