My New Aviary
thanks everyone Your not kidding but it will be worth it in when I can sit and watch some very happy budgies living it up and have a ball in their new home Ohhh not to mention that it will be 4 less cages to clean am off to the park near by on monday to get some branches for perches, how do you all fix perches up in an aviary? I was thinking of getting some chain and hanging them from the cross beams, is that okay? If anyone has pics of the insides of their aviaries to give me some ideas I would appreciate it

My New Aviary
okay an update on my aviary, yesterday was a write off due to the weather and I had done everything I could till I needed help, enter hubby today, it's now standing I put on almost all of the remaining wire, the door is almost ready so tommorow I need to finish the door and attach, put the roof on, fix the iron in a few more places and then deck it out Here are a couple of pics (yes that is me wielding the hammer :hap: ) It's not to pretty but it will do the job :hap:

Betty And Pluto
Well Betty has finally decided that she is ready and so I think poor pluto has his work cut out for him. I put Betty in a cage with a box awhile ago with Jack and although she was in and out of the box all day and would accept some preening and kisses from Jack she refused him anythng else so when Roxy was out of quarantine I put Jack in with her praying for some beautiful grey babies. It was not to be, when I took a good look at them all yesterday Roxy had gone out of condition. Meanwhile I had put Pluto in with Betty to keep her company but once again Betty would only accept some kisses and cuddles. So I decided to remove Jack and Roxy from the breeding cabinet and put Betty and Pluto in there instead and my god did Betty change her tune, she just about dived under Pluto begging for it, poor Pluto didn't know what to do, but this morning I wake up to some strange noise coming from the spare room, so i got up to check it out and I am telling you Pluto worked it out and was going at it hammer and tongs. YAY finally things might be moving along so heres hoping that I will have some eggs soon.

Hi Newbie Here! Advice Welcome!
Hi Rachel and welcome, pics would help us help you but going by what you are saying I would try lifting Conan's cage up higher if you can , the cage does sound on the small size though, budgies need longer cages rather than taller (my smalledst one is 60cm wide) with the perches set at either end so they can fly back and forth and if you can use natural perches of different sizes that would be even better. I have never trimmed my birds nails but you can if you like just make sure you are shown how to do it properly. Is your partner feeding him the same as what he was getting in the store? It can take awhile for them to settle in, I find that my new bugies will often stop what ever they are doing when I come in to the room and just sit there untill I leave. I tend to leave them in a quite place for the first couple of days, only going in to change thier food and water. I hope Conan comes around soon

My New Aviary
okay I thought now is a good enough time for an uptate since I am stalled till I can get to the hardware store AGAIN, the sides are done, the rest of the timber has been cut and the tin for the back is ready to be attached when I finish the frame. It is coming along well I think, I wish I had a car cause I hate stopping when I am on a roll and there is still plenty of day light left, its slow going when you are doing it yourself. It's not going to be the prettiest looking aviary but it will do the job I hope

Avairy Make Over
hey Neat why not look for some cheap pavers to lay instead of concrete, sometimes people buy to many and want to get rid of the excess, and I am using 12mm by 12mm mesh on mine. hope it turns out well, have fun I know I will :hap:

My New Aviary
I will take pics as I go along and show the progress, I have no plans thats I can show you on the computer but basically 1 end and most of the roof will be iron and the rest 12 by 12mm mesh from top to bottom with the door being at the end with the mesh if that makes sense. Thanks Neat and I hope yours turns out well too, I look forward to your pics. :hap:

My New Aviary
Tomorrow I am going to start work on my new Aviary, I'M EXCITED :hap: I have always wanted one and now I think i need one cause my little bird family has grown a bit and I don't think my patio aviary is going to fit 17 birds. I can't afford a new one so I am going to build it, I helpfully reduced a neighbours pile of timber the other week and as would luck would have it there was 1 14m sheet of iron left over from the new roof so all I need is some screws, nails, hinges, brackets and mesh, I got everything but the mesh today (will pick that up tomorrow) It's going to be 2m wide 1.7m deep and 1.8m high and the best part is it's only going to cost me about $120. Hopefully I can get it finished soon cause the new birds will be out of quarantine soon and I need somewhere other than my laundry to put them. So wish me luck guys I think I am gong to need it :hap:

Normal Budgie? I Don't Think So
Hi and welcome to you and your family I don't think you have much to worry about, I agree with maesie it is normal and he should settle down soon, I have a bird that is doing the same thing at the moment, try not to take him out while he is doing this though, talk to him and offer him some millet only when he is behaving. I agree with the others try covering three sided of the cage just leaving the front open, do you have plenty of toys and things to amuse him? we would love some pics and they may help us help you some more, good luck

Help
Hi everyone, I am abit confused about one of my birds, Kit. I have had it for a week now and when I brought it home it's cere was mostly brown with a slight blue tinge above the nostrils now it looks like this Much to the disgust of them all I caught a few that I knew the sex of and had a feel of the vents, boys and girls and Kits did feel more like the girls than the boys but I may be wrong. If it is a girl like I am hoping then is something wrong?

2 Pairs In The New Breeding Cabinet
Here are a some pics of the lovely couples Jack and Roxy They decided to get lovey for the picture Jordan and Eddie I did have Jack in with another hen but she wouldn't let him near her except for the odd kiss so I seperated them. As they are all fairly young except Jack I wanted to put my normals together to see if they were split for anything that wasn't showing up and I really want some good sized grey males so hopefully Jack has it in him.

2 Pairs In The New Breeding Cabinet
well the girls are out of quarantine with no problems and Jordan and Roxy have meet their boyfriends, not much is happening yet, they will sit on the perch together but are barley speaking so I guess I will have to be paitent. Has anyone got any tricks that they use to help get things going?
