  1. your telling me, its all good though cause the girl I have in mind for Jack has gone out of condition and I got Eddie's girl a new man, she wasn't much interested in him anyway, problably didn't think he was to handsom what with his scabby head and all
  2. are they breeding ? no they are not breeding, they don't seem the slightest bit interested in the girls at the moment
  3. okay will get too it right now thanks for that
  4. just plain vegetable oil or olive oil? and do I have to treat the rest as well?
  5. ohh okay what do I use?
  6. hey Kaz what does a feather cyst look like? he doesn't have any lumps. Its good that he hasnt any lumps so all is well. Just that excessive trouble on the head can cause it. I have a photo of one somewhere ....I will lookhere it is...started from a hard moult, itchy head, ingrown feathers. ouch that looks nasty but lucky not what Eddie or Jack look like. I put some aloe on them this morning and Eddie's doesn't look quite so bad, alittle less red, and now the scab has gone on Jack it's just pin feathers here are a couple of pics of them
  7. hey Kaz what does a feather cyst look like? he doesn't have any lumps.
  8. thanks for that Liv, I haven't changed their food since I got them. except for the scabs on jack I haven't seen any actully bleeding, they just look nasty, I feel so sorry for the poor little things.
  9. Hi all I would like some advice about 2 of my budgies, most of my birds have finished molting but Jack and Eddie seem to be having a really hard time of it. Jack has been at it for about 6 weeks now and seems to be having trouble around his head, there are pin feathers growing in but it is driving him nuts, all he does is scratch and rub his head on anything rough I am worried cause he's had little scabs too. Eddie is also having trouble around his head just above his cere, the pin feathers are coming in but seem to be a browny red colour like they have been bleeding. I have been giving them their veggies and also vitamins in their water (i tried to find molt ease but couldn't). They don't have mites or scaly face either. should I be worried or will they get over it eventually? Ohh and when Jack isn't scratching or rubbing he sleeps, is this cause he is exhausted for the preening?
  10. YAY congratulations grandma I hope all goes well with the rest
  11. yep thats all you can do I guess, don't stress to much, I am sure that they will hatch soon good luck
  12. okay so an update on my pairs, Betty and Pluto are doing well I am hoping for eggs by the weekend, will hens get abit quieter before laying? Eddie and Jordan are a different story, although I caught Jordan checking out the box the other day since then she hasn't been near it and she ignored Eddie completely all they did was sit there in the cage with the occasional fly back and forth, so I decided to take Eddie out and put in Mack, she gave a half hearted protest when he tried to say hi but within 10 minutes he was feeding her, I think if she is showing no signs of breeding soon i will take them out and try again later. Jordan is a normal green (possible split for greywing) and Mack is a greygreen greywing if this a successful what can I expect?
  13. Hey AV was that monday and tuesday hatch date 18 days after laying?
  14. hey chrissy she has a ring on, did you get her from the breeder? if not you could try to find him/her? If you really want to know then they might have it on record (most good breeders keep detailed records)
  15. okay I picked these guys out today, I love their colours but I still need help with the mutations I think this on is a cobalt dom pied cock but I have no idea about the girls Poppy is the one at the front (she is abit ruffled from her trip home) and Lady Thanks guys
  16. I have had them for 4 weeks and yes my laundry is freezzing, the windows are luvered (sorry if the spelling is wrong), they all feel pretty meaty, I have moved them outside and put the ones in the spare room in the laundry to toughen back up.
  17. IT'S FINISHED YAY I went and got the branches this morning, I washed them and sprayed them with mite spary for good mearsure. While they were drying I went to Kmart and got the latches for the door, when I got home I changed the door around so it opened inward (thanks for that Kaz it's heaps better) attached the latches, built a shelf for a food dish, arranged the branches, did a final check that everything was secure and moved the budgies in to their new home, AND THEY LOVE IT so here are the final pics a few of the lads taking it all in It seem Zac (the albinoe) has fallen in love with Mack he wont leave Mack alone, follows him everywhere and pecks anyone that gets between them, I don't think Mack minds too much though and Hulk says thanks mum :hap: I am going to get a bird bath and put in a couple more shelves for feed dishes and take out the red dishes hanging on the sides. please let me know if you think of anything to make things better. thanks for all your suggestions and encouragement on this, I have had a great time building it and sharing my experiance with you all.
  18. That is a good sign. Do you have nesting material in the nest box? I use wood shavings. The hen tends to take them all out but this can help her with her nesting behaviour. You just keep replacing them. Usually once the chicks hatch she'll leave them in there. :hap: thanks for that maise, I will give it a go with both I think, it might make cleaning them easier too
  19. okay I was just worried cause they are in at night when its coldest
  20. my quarantine birds have been living in my laundry at night (due to the cages they are in being completely open) but are put outside everyday till dusk, they came from an outdoor aviary and I want to put them in my aviary. Do you think it they will be okay? It can still get fairly cold at night but my laundry has no heating and I can tell you it just about as cold in there as outside I have 4 others that will be going in the aviary aswell, they came from the same place as the new guys but they have benn living it up in my spare room for the last 6 weks so they will have to wait for abit longer I think.
  21. I agree with the others I have always used tap water with no ill affects
  22. thanks for that Kaz, the door opens out but I think i will change it. That net idea is great
  23. nothing is happenig just yet but I am watching for ohhhhh and as I was checking on them today I caught Jordan in her box checking things out (she had been in the breeding cage with Eddie for a couple of weeks now and hasn't even looked at it till now) so fingers crossed
  24. thanks for that Neat I was going to put some shade cloth over the top, something that I can hang down the side and roll up as needed. As for the door I was wondering about that, will have to come up with something. Do mice really get in through holes that small (it 12mm) I can maybe see a baby one squeezing through but a full grown one?????? The Tiels I was thinking of getting from an old guy near me that handraises them in an aviery with budgies, but I might have a think on that, I don't really think my aviary is big enough.
  25. well it is ready to be decked out YAY so i am off to the park tommorow to find some branches, ohh and I need to go to kmart and get a new latch (the one I had doesn't fit) and some of those screw in hooks to hang some of the perches. I blew the estimated budget, I had to get more wood (some of the stuff I had ended up being treated so no good) and a few other things so all up it ended up costing about $250 by the time I finished. Will get some more pics when the budgies have moved in A few question though How many budgies do you think I can have in there? I am thinking of get a cockatiel or 2 will they be alright in there with the budgies? and what about food and water placement, on the floor or hanging nearer the top?
