  1. she is gold
  2. Ohhh good , I was hoping that she would do but I wasn't sure about how dark the hen should be, she is abit darker than her picture shows though
  3. I picked up Dante today, the second I saw him I knew I had to have him because he colour is amazing. Like I said in my ealier post he looks to be a really dark purple colour so I am guessing he is a violet? I really would like to get some chicks that are the same as him so what type of hen would I need? I tried to understand Daz's topic on violets but couldn't wrap my head around it, so some advice in layman"s terms would be great please
  4. I would have to say boy girl aswell but I am new to this sexing thing, I am only just getting the hang of the mutations
  5. Eggs 2 and 3 hatched yesterday but I found one of them dead his morning, egg 4 should hatch tomorrow, mum and dad seem to be doing a great job, loving the sprouted seed I have started giving them and even tucking in to the egg mix which they didn't touch before.
  6. I nipped in to my local bird place to get some supplies and came out with these 2, Dante http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k337/ch...79/birds155.jpg they are not the best pics and they don't show his true colour but he is the most amazing shade of "purple" I have even seen, would he be called a violet? I am wondering about the dark factor now because I have honestly never seen this shade before, he is almost what I would call a royal purple, advice would be great please? and Jazz http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k337/ch...79/birds157.jpg http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k337/ch...79/birds158.jpg I am guessing sky blue opaline? I have decided that I quite like the opalines now and think that I will work towards developing a line and also dom pieds, which i love. ps. they are both in quarantine with no nest box
  7. Thanks guys Neat, Dad is a greygreen greywing and mum is a normal green not sure yet what I can expect, if anyone has an idea let me know

  9. Jordan and Mack are new parents Bub 1 arrived this morning and seems healthy so far, mum and dad are in there taking care of him, I sneaked a quick picture and will add more when his brothers and sisters arrive.
  10. About 6 months ago When was the last time you treated yourself to something you really wanted?
  11. okay, i never took in the stress factor, I figured that because they had had no contact with other birds for 6 weeks and they had been through the same quarantine process that I would do then they would be okay, but I guess not okay so what do you recomend I do now??
  12. Hey Kaz, the new girls came from a friend of mine who had them for 6 weeks beforehand, she doesn't have any birds herself and put them through the whole quarantine process before she brought them over, so I figured it was safe to put them in with the boys, if this is not a good idea please let me know and I will seperate them.
  13. Hi budgiegirl and welcome to BBC , you will find everything you need to know here, just ask and we willl do our best to help you out. Like the others said it is usually best to get a baby from a breeder, they are able to tell you the exact age and what mutation it is, and you can usually be assured of a healthy bird aswell. Babies that have been handled from day one should be much easier to tame, but each budgie is an individual and it can take some time but if you are persistant and paitiant then you will get a great little friend Like Liv I also have babies due soon and I am sure there are a few others around, if you have a perticular colour or type that you are after then I am sure one of us will have something that you will love.
  14. okay and update on my pairs Betty laid a total of 3 eggs, I candled them the other day and found that only the last egg she laid seemed to be fertile, so I made the decision to foster that egg to Jordan and remove Betty and Pluto from the breeding cabinate, I want to put Pluto down with Poppy in a few months and Betty was looking abit worse for wear, they are now in the aviary and look much happier. Jordan and Mack on the other hand have 5 very fertile eggs, she sits on them almost all day and he is often in there keeping her company, the eggs are due to start hatching saturday or sunday I think. I candled the Egg from Betty today and found that it was clear so I removed it. The new girls I got from my friend last weekend have been paired up I put Arial, (green opaline) with Eddie (normal green) Willow (Greygreen) with Hulk (greygreen) and India (Grey Dom Peid) with Jack (normal grey) so here is hoping they get busy I'll update with pics of babies as they start to arrive
  15. I feel sorry for the show type, poor baby must think he is a freak he's not, he's beautiful just the way he is but you know what kids can be like
  16. Thanks guys, sorry Liv but India is my favourate too so you can't have her I am off to get some proper scales tomorrow so I can see if they are just solid built girls or fatty bumbas They have been put down in the breeding cabinates with the boys now, my friend quarantined them for 6 weeks before she brought them over, man can she keep a secret she doesn't have any birds herself and told me exactly what she had done for them, I asked how she knew what to do and she said "you go on about your birds and BBC so much, I went online and found out" Apparently I go on abit and she knew I was looking for some more hens so when someone she knew wanted to get rid of his birds she snapped up these 3, a very early Xmas present
  17. Hey Jwancia I am sorry to hear about your freinds bird, like the others suggested keeps him warm and quiet till you can get him to the vet, I had the same problem last week, Hardy had to have 2 antibiotic shots and is doing well but I had to hand feed him for a few days, he lost 14grams (luckly he had it to spare), my vet gave me a product called First Aid, a powder that you mix with water and syringe feed, (my vet was unable to give me a crop feeding lesson) but this product helped till he felt better and started eating on his own, you could use egg and biscuit mix made in to a sloppy paste, till you can get to the vet. I hope this helps and he gets better soon.
  18. I have 3 beautiful new hens, a present from a friend of mine introducing Arial Willow and India They are a little over wieght I think but i can fix that and I think India hurt her foot in transit, I am keeping an eye on her but other than that they seem in good health and one of the best things is they have already been quarantined
  19. Hey AV i am so sory to hear about your hen, I am sure you did everything you could. Don't lose heart though honey, like Kaz said these things happen to the best of them :angel1:
  20. hey Liv I think you should come visit me, I can't promise the weeds would get pulled but the rest would be spotless, but give me about a weeks notice, I would need it :budgiedance:
  21. An update on Hardy, he went to the vet last night for his second antibiotic injection, she said he sounded much better but the poor little thing had lost 14grams in 3 days, he is still a healthy wieght of 51gms (i think at 65gms he might have been a little over wieght) so I got him home and hand fed him some stuff the vet gave me (she didn't have any crop needles to show me how it was done) so I had to use the syringe again and boy was he unimpressed, I nearly had a heart attack when I had finished cause he didn't look well at all, I thought I had killed him but he settled down and I caught him eating at 3am, there were heaps of husks in his dish this morning so I am hoping that he keeps at it. the vet said so long as he starts eating properly then he doesn't have to go back. YAY
  22. Thanks Kaz I needed that, things just tend to happen all at once huh
  23. Hey Toohp I am sorry to hear about Fluff, I really hope she is better real soon
  24. okay one feather pulled, bleeding stopped and Jack is resting in a nice warm cage Thankyou all, if it wasn't for all you guys willing to help as much as possible and giving great advice I would still be running around in a panic with Jack bleeding to death I still don't understand what happened to Roxy but am hoping it is nothing serious and just one of those things like you said Kaz I am really sorry she is gone but I hope she is resting in peace Thanks again Kaz
