  1. I have a hen sitting on 6 eggs, so far I have left her alone except for the odd check in the box but I decided to candle the eggs and they are all clear My question is how long do I let her sit on them and how do I go about removing them, can I just take them and see if she will go again or will she eventually reject them herself?????
  2. hey guys I am having a problem with the link to "ravengypsy's colour and mutation guide" I have tried to get it from the FAQ secion and he original post, it keeps coming up with a link to something else, was wondering if anybody else is having his problem?
  3. hey fero I personally wouldn't, if you are going to mix birds it is better to keep birds that are about the same size, a cockatoo is very big and could easliy kill your budgies if it got upset.
  4. here are some better pics of the babies (natural light no flash) chick 1 chick 2 and chick 3
  5. No he/she seems happy and healthy and when the cere turned completely blue the first time and stayed that way for ages i figured I would let it be.
  6. I think so, the cere is pale blue, but does that mean that it can't be a TCB, I can never fully remember the rules with sex linged genes :sadsorry:
  7. Jordan's babies seem to be doing great now, the new feathers are coming in nicely, I think i have an opaline hen (she wouldn't sit still enough for a picture) a TCB cock and a dark green something, I am not sure on the sex of the last one yet. Here are a couple of updated pics, (they are not the best i am afraid) this little guy/girl is still abit ragged around the edges but hopefully with his/her first molt they will smooth out some I really like the TCB boy he is so cute :sadsorry:
  8. Hi everyone, a few weeks ago I was out feeding the birds and checking them over as I do, I looked them all over and had to do a double take when I came to Kit, the cere is turning brown :sadsorry: okay this is abit strange so I have kept an eye on Kit for the last couple of weeks and watched it changing colour. I was out there today and it looks just like it did in the shop so I took a picture to show you what I mean up close it is not completely brown, there is still tinges of blue at the top. I think i have 1 very confused budgie
  9. tahnks guys, I was wondering if thats what they are when I saw a picture of another members birds and they looked so similar, so that means dad must be split for it then.
  10. Thanks for that Kaz, very interesting. so far chicks 1 and 2 look to be growing back normal feathers and doing well, chick 3 is growing back feathers but they are really ratty. I don't know if it will help but the diet that the parents were getting was their normal seed mix, soaked hulled oats, some pellet crumble (but I don't think they really ate much of that), and vegies which included Bokchoy, grated carrot, bean, radish and alfalfa sprouts, brussel sprouts, boccoli, sweet corn, parsely and basil. I didn't give any vitamin supplements during this time as I read somewhere that they can have too much which isn't good for the chicks. I have 2 hens laying at the moment so if you can see anything wrong with the above diet please let me know so I can make changes if need be. Thanks everyone for their support and help, I will keep you updated on the babies and the grow
  11. yeah they are definately black
  12. thanks Kaz that would be great
  13. I just posted some pics of the babies in the health section due to the feather problems but would really like for some on the take a stab at what the first 2 are, I know they are opalines but the body colour has me stumped, mum is a green normal and dad is a greygreen greywing opaline, (he is not the best greygreen I have seen) but chicks 1 and 2 are much more of a yellow colour, not the bright yellow of a lutino but a just yellow I can't really describe it better than that, sorry. anyway here are a couple of pics, see what you think and let me know
  14. Hi all sorry it has taken so long but I have finally got pics of the babies, I took a real ood look at them and it seems tat they are growing back a whole heap of their feathers but this is what they look like now chick 3 this one lost most of his body feathers but seems to be growing them back, same with the wings, he didn't lose the tail feathers they just got really ratty so hopefully when he molts they will come back okay. chick 2 she has lost all but one flight feather on one wing but none on the other, and some body fethers on her chest and above her tail but looks like she is growing them back. and chick 1 who seems fine and is growing back her tail feathers sorry if that is to many pics, I am not sure how many you are allowed in one post. So with the feathers growing back I am hoping that it isn't that PBFD that Kaz suggested, whatever that is (Kaz if you can tell me what it is and what causes it that would be great)
  15. Yeah I think that will be the way to go, I nearly got the mum of the kittens but she was just abit to quick for me.
  16. yeah she is only a baby herself, I would say 7 to 8 months, and as far as I can tell she is a first time mum, her sister arrived at the sametime and I think she already had one littler that must have died but looks about ready to drop another lot. I am so annoyed at my mum cause I have been telling her ever since they turned up to get them fixed but she hasn't done anything so now I am raising these ones and with try to fing the others and catch them when they are about 4 weeks, that way I can handle them and rehome them, I will also be trying to catch the mums, only problem is they are completly feral so it should be lots of fun
  17. PFBD what is that kaz??????? it doesn't sound good especially when you add that little face after it
  18. I will try and get some decent ones tomorrow and you can see what I am talking about.
  19. hubby is great with all aniamls just doesn't want to get attached cause they might not survive or if they do they will be going to new homes (well I might keep the 3 legged one if my dog takes to it, but dont tell hubby that:P ) I think it lost it's leg early on cause there is a wound there, I cleaned it up and it looks okay with no infection but the vet with tell me more when I take them on tuesday, had it looked nasty I would have taken it straight in.
  20. I went to my mums last week and found that on of the strays that turned up about 6 months ago had a litter of kittens under the house ( how many times did I tell her to catch them and get them desexed GRRRR) there were 3 black and white and 2 tabbys but unfornuatly one the them was already dead. I told mum to keep an eye on them and if anymore die to let me know, well mum being mum didn't check on them (cause she didn't want to see any dead kittens) so I went up yesterday to help her with a few things and checked on them myself, the mother cat had moved them and there was olny 3 left so I said thats it, I grabbed a torch and the broom and ever so gently fished them out, good job I did to cause one of the is missing a hindleg, other than that they seem okay, I have a vet appoinment set up for tuesday. they are about 10 days old and sooooooo cute, I am hand feeding them every 3 to 4 hours and so far seem to be doing an okay job I hope. My husband refused to admit how cute they are cause he doesn't want to get emotionally attached but I busted him giving them a pat this morning I will get pics for you tomorrow and let you know how they are coming along
  21. Well I have to say if this problem is FM then it is serious, chick 2 has lost most of her flight and body feathers, just has her normal wing feathers and down all over. Chick 1 seems to be fine but chick 2 has started to lose her flight and body feathers too now, other than this they seem quite healthy, out of the box and eating, I moved them and dad in to another cage with a box on the floor of the cage so they hop in and out and follow dads lead, picking at seed and veggies.
  22. okay cool, chick 1 is fully feathered but chick 3 isn't, thats the one losing all her feathers, so I think I will try putting them back in tonight. Mum hasn't started laying again yet and am not sure what to do here, I was going to seperate herfor a couple of days then when the chicks are okay remove them and dad and put her down with another cock bird BUT I am not sure if I should do this due to the FM thing happening, the vet said I could try it and see what happens but I would like some other opinions please?
  23. well despite all their dramas lately chick 1 and 3 have ventured out of the box today, they are so cute running around investergating, chick 2 decline to join her sisters and is still snuggled up in her bed but I am sure she will want to join the fun soon. one question though, do I put them back in the box tonight or leave them where they are???
  24. NO he is an old guy and was recommended to me through my regular vet, he had be in busines for years.I didn't like him much at first cuse he completely dismissed the bleeding from the feathers as normal which sounded like a load of bull to me and still does but by the end he seemed to make some sort of sense.
  25. Hi guys, es it was an avaian vet that I went to, I was in there for about 30 mins while he tried to work it out, he told me off for pulling the tail feathers of the first chicks but seriously it was the only way I could stop the bleeding, then he go his book out and had a good look and settled on the FM or diet being the problem, though he said the diet sounds okay but I should try to get them to eat pellet crumble to increase the protien. The picture in the book looked nothing like what baby had but he said the with FM the tips of the quills will look pinched and twisted which they do, even the body feathers. Dad is fine now after he little problem, there was only a tiny amount of quill left from the feathers that had gone I pulled 1 but the others stopped bleeding on their own, as far as I know he has never had this problem before, his feathers have always looked nice an smooth.
