  1. none that i noticed, but blast and damn, I am in a bit of a pinic now cause when I went to get Jack out of the cage he broke a blood feather so now I am sitting here with him in my lap trying to stop the bleeding
  2. Roxy just dropped dead and I don't know why!!! I am worried about Jack cause he was in the same cage as her (i put them down in a breeding cage about 3 days ago) is there anything I should do? I changed all the food and water dishes and washed the cage, do I just watch him closely and see what happens?????
  3. okay thanks Kaz, I knew about the third egg thing but I assumed she had started sitting cause she is in there all the time day and night, for the last 5 days and she laid the last egg four days ago, I checked on her a little while ago and she is in there now so hopefully she hasn't finished and is laying another one. Jordan is definately sitting on hers (egg 4 due today) she has been from about day2 so I thought I would have a go at candleing them, egg 1 looks fertile, there is tiny red lines starting in the yolk, the other 2 show no signs yet but I didn't really think they would. Thanks Liv and Ditto on yours too :budgiedance:
  4. OH NO I don't think Betty sat on her eggs last night cause they are really cold compared to Jordans, and she seems to have stopped laying with just 3 eggs, she was sitting on them yesterday, if she doesn't sit on them soon do you think it is to late for them? should I put them in with Jordan? what do I do?
  5. so true I can see it now Ohhh by the way Pearce I hope you are feeling better
  6. Ohh trust me i plan to, I have never had a sick bird before so this is new to me
  7. Hi guys I posted this question in with the question about Hardy making a strange noise but thought since it is not a general question, I would put it here too Hardy stopped eating today, I noticed about lunchtime that his poop turned to just yellow water and that there were no husks in his feed bowl, I don't have a crop needle and don't know how so I mixed up some egg and bisciut mix and feed him with a syringe, his poop turned back to normal for a few hours then went back to water so I fed him again but I don't know if I giving him enough, how much should I be trying to get in to him and how often?? Other than not eating he is fine, he preens, chats to Santana who is now in a seperate cage, flys back and forth in his cage and is alert. He is going back to the vet tomorrow so Just need to get him through the night till then, can anyone help me please?
  8. Pearce what you have there is EGG POOP congratulations with the egg thing I would have done the same thing, I hope she gets the idea
  9. that great he looks like he is having a ball
  10. It looking good but I have to agree with the others, I would also suggest a few more perches, natural ones if possible, it will give them some thing to chew on and they will get more excerise when they fly back and forth. Also is it my eyes or is there only aviary wire on 2 sides of that cage?
  11. hey Pearce, you can't actually tell if a budgie is going to lay agg till just before she does and even then it is not aways visable, the things you can look for are 1, she is spending heaps of time in the nest box "getting it ready" 2, she has really large and I mean HUGE droppings like the ones in the pics you posted the other day 3, she may get what is called "egg bum" where her vent area looks really swollen, but like I said it is not always easy to see. I was nearly at the point of taking out Betty and Jordan, both had been in the cabinate for about 5 weeks or more, they were showing all these signs, Kaz and a few others told me to leave them a little longer and sure enough 3 days later they both started laying. Kaz did mention to someone else that you can try covering the box hole for a few days, if she isn't showing all these signs I would try that first cause she looks like she is in condition. Sometimes it can take longer than expected especially with cabinate breeding where the pairs aren't always bonded first, make sure they have a really stable perch aswell cause even a slightly wobbly one will make it hard for them to mate properly. You can also try puttng some nesting material in the box (I used bits of scrunched up newspaper), she will probably throw this out but it can make her get her into the nest mood. Hope this helps Good luck
  12. AHHHHH cool sorry (I have heard of some breeders doing this but I wasn't sure and it sounds abit gross to me what with the poop and all :rip: ) lucky for me I seem to have budgies with manners, there is very little seed outside of their dish.
  13. That is great Missylu I am so happy for you, I hope the little guy keeps going strong :rip:
  14. hey guys 1 quick question, is there anything that I could be feeding them or addatives to help them get better, I have been giving them vitamins in the water and gave them some veggies that they had a pick at today. I bought some egg and biscuit mix for my breeding pairs today, should I offer some of that to them? if so do I mix it with water or mix it in with their seed? (I am saying "they" because Santana has been in the same cage, the vet said he seems fine so far though)
  15. yep agree with Kaz, them big nasty looking poops normal for a hen laying, my 2 are dropping them and they are huge :rip: I check in the morning that they have enough for the rest of the day and then put their veggies in with it (mine wont eat veggies unless they are in their regular seed dish, then in the afternoon about 4 I go empty them all and put in fresh seed for their evening pig fest I have a question though, it looks like you have seed on the bottom of your cage, was just wondering why and does anybody else do this? (only asking in case it is something that I should think about doing)
  16. I am sure that he will be fine with some antiboitics and some TLC or at least I hope so, the vet said that he seem fine other wise, bright, lively, big and chunky Liv, I promise I wont be going there again, I have no need to now that I have 2 breeders just around the corner :hap:
  17. okay so Hardy has just been to the vet and she said he has a respiratory infection, gave him an injection, he will need another on monday, both Hardy and Santana in the hospital cage now resting. I am really annoyed with the guy who sold him to me and myself cause Liv did mention that she didn't like the place I got them but when I was in there, everything looked clean and the birds looked active and healthy, I think I will give him a ring and let him know what has happened :hap:
  18. hey guys I need your opinions, my new bird Hardy is making a really weird noise whenever I go near the cage, like he is gasping for breath but it's not wheezing it's more of a sqeaking type thing, I am wondering if it is stress and he is freaking out cause he sits really still and trembles as well. is there anything I can or should be doing?
  19. well Kit's cere turned completely blue (dark like my other boy in condition) and has stayed that way so I am guessing that she is a he, It was really wierd though cause i had seen him in the shop for a few weeks beforehand and could have sworn the cere was brown so unless it has one of the conditions mentioned before then its a boy, he seems healthy and happy though
  20. hey Elly thanks for that, and yes they are quarantined, I agree with you fully, all my new birds are kept seperate and away from the others for a full 30 days and I am sure that they are in perfect health :hap:
  21. hey Liv that is great I much prefer cabinet breeding to, I just wish I had a few more pairs ready to go down. You are going to be really busy with the new familys soon i am sure, I am keeping my fingers crossed for you
  22. okay so I couldn't help myself :hap: I really needed a new grey boy cause I am abit unsure about Jack who is STILL trying to finish his molt the poor baby so here is Santana (he is abit ruffled cause he had a flap around before sitting for the picture) and I needed a mate for Penny my albino hen who is in her last year of breeding so I got Hardy here they are together for a front on shot sorry about the bars but they wouldn't turn around when I had the door open they are both big boys, Hardy is about the same size as Penny which is good cause she is a BIG girl, Santana isn't as big as Jack but still bigger than the girls I have for him so I am happy about that. So this brings me to 22 budgies and 3 eggs, hopefully 5 by the end of the day, it's a good job I built that aviary
  23. Hey Liv it was great to finally meet you and I agree a good nite all around, they did seem to be happy to have some new blood join up and happy to share their knoweledge, I am sure that we will both be able to learn alot and I can't believe after not being able to find any breeders near me that I have 2 just about on my door step I think I might need to build a bigger aviary
  24. Betty's 2nd egg arrived on time today and Jordan has followed suit and laid her first today aswell
  25. It is a good sign that she is eating and interacting with the other budgiebut she is still stressed out, keep an eye on her and she should settle in given time. Some of mine did it to but they got over it some quicker than others
