Show cages are now an option, in the new car Can you smell my new car's new car smell from there? My thoughts too : Show Cage space! Now your birds wil travel in style to your local Shows!
  2. I hope to start breeding the Dark Factors but it does seem very tricky when combined with the Violet Factor.
  3. It is worth mentioning that Omelette was one of Kaz's "big" purchases 2 seasons ago at I think the MBC auction (Kaz will correct me if I'm wrong) :glare: At the time she was very special and has gone on to become the foundation of her flock. It just goes to show that sometimes you can get very, very lucky.
  4. I am so glad Quiche has been reunited with you Dave! That is wonderful news  And it looks like you picked up some very good birds from Cec and Brenda too! Well done and thanks to Kaz who helped make it happen.

You are right to back her, don't lose faith, she might just be one of those later developers or just a breeder of winners if you go down that track and put her out to stud.
  6. Just heard that Chris and Joyce Huck will be coming down from Grealdton too! It occurred to me over-night that since my birds are all on Doxy I don't know if I should risk bringing them, ie. risk to their well-being and possible risk to other birds .... will have to contact WABC and ask for guidance.
  7. The topic is Closed as far as I am concerned. Mods please see fit to do so.

Hear, hear! Precisely. I hear you GB. However, when I said everyone was being treated with the Doxy it of course included the 4 inside and the 2 aviaries. The prescribed treatment is 6 weeks of Doxy, "shortly" means soon, ie. maybe after a full week, maybe 2.

Don't believe in "hard feelings". Say what you want to say, get it out of your system and move on.
  10. Almost! Yes, most times I just grab a bird on the day that is in condition and pop it into a show cage. IF they are up-and-coming young uns and I want to make sure they "show" they go into the show cage the day before, I put newspaper at the bottom below the perch and soon enough the curious little critters get up on the perch 'cause they want to look around. I'm afraid as a soon to be Intermediate I will have to spend a heck of a lot more time with show preparation (sigh) but the judges in this State are very understanding with us Novices and 'break us in slowly'. Silly me GB! I misinterpreted what you said. I hope the rest of my post helped with what you really wanted to know.

Yes, and thanks to you too and GB who had the courage to bluntly prod me into a re-think. Russel Wolf's long-term forecast on the day helped me decide to put everyone on Doxy but it was your posts that prompted me to do it then and there .... I was cooking our evening meal at the time, I find I have to step aside and do something totally different for it all to sink in and put 2 and 2 together. As a result I only lost the Greygreen hen ... it could have been so much worse.
  12. Yawn, sigh, hic! I do find it tiresome that I need to explain myself, I would much rather communicate with people that just get it. But Kaz has urged me to be more generous, loving and caring so here goes. I didn't plan for this thread to develop the way it did, it just grew from what I will loosely call a "triple barrel salvo". From my short time in the sub-culture of Show Budgies and their breeders I have noted a curious trend with some breeders not talking to others and a lot of hoisting the petards and an inordinant amount of who-hah. I guess some would just call it human nature. As a result some breeders will only sell to a select few and so all manner of wheeling and dealings go on with "proxy" buyers and the like. So let us begin at the beginning, and in no particular order: 1. Show breeders beware, do not touch my Pet Shop Clearwings with a barge pole - there is a 50:50 chance the cocks are carrying/split for Opaline. 2. I am loathe to acknowledge any bird that I am not proud of, I have only been breeding show budgies since 2007 and the thought that someone Interstate would want one of my "pet shop" birds embarrasses me. I really do not pay too much attention to my pet shop birds and I do not keep good records on them, in fact I should keep much better records full stop. 3. I have mentioned to Kaz, and a few others, that I will be getting out of Yellow Faces/ Golden Faces/ Aussie Mutants and more than likely they will be going down to the Pet Shop. Yes, they are very strong birds but after the Great YF Symposium I figured that ithey were just going to have to go - I am juggling too many varieties as it is. Coincidentally at this time Kaz asked me when I was planning on taking them there and so I promptly postponed it. 4. RIP you are not my cuppa tea. Anybody who boasts that they regularly used to go round to Novices places and pick up some rippers 'cause the Novices didn't know what they were parting with should in my opinion be shot on the spot. Especially poor timing my dear after I had just given you that ripper of a Golden Face that you had been asking for on a number of occassions. And when I called you and left you a message asking if you wanted his sons it would have been nice to actually get a Yes or No. There is an outside chance that I got the wrong telephone number for you from Kaz, if so please disregard the final comment. okay, me cansé de este tema y no lo voy a discutir más: Translation, The End.

Well the results have come in on the Greygreen hen: Positive for Chlamydia Psittacosis. This hen, by the way was the wide faced Greygreen hen Luvie nursed back to life in December AND who I had planned to breed into my Rec Pied line this year. Hey ho. Fortunately for me she bred very well last year into my Spangle line and I will use her daughters instead. So just as well I started the Doxy last week and they will all be getting the full 6 week treatment as Heinrich has advised. Lou Lou (whose eye cleared up on day 3 of doxy treatment incidentally) and Doug will be returned to the Young Uns aviary shortly as too Luvie and Rose to the Adult aviary. Incidentally I thought she may have been one of the 3 hens I took to him before Christmas that tested for low levels of Canker, but she was not. After talking things over with Heinrich I have decided to try and keep a closed aviary this year and if I do see a budgie I just have to have then they will be off to Heinrich's for full check up after completing the quarantine program. So the next question is how did it slip in? And the answer is: Quite frankly I do not care, I take responsibility for a bird's well-being and care the moment I purchase it.
  14. I didn't think so. Get your skates on sweetheart, you are going to need them.
  15. GB I thought/hoped you didn't care and were breeding the bird that You want. Yes, you are right - every judge has his/her preferences But they do meet up and establish "the look" that they want to see more of. As for showing and breeding .... well I can only share my experience with you and that is I almost never show a hen, at least I try not to, and what I show depends on whether it is "breeding time" or not and when the bird was born. The UBCs (nest feathered) which I believe will amount to something will be shown around the 5-6+ mark and then again a bit later when they have matured a bit more. Most of the time I just grab what looks good on the day or if I am feeling ambitious the day before for a bit of show cage training and try to rock up with a decentish number of birds. Let your Club members advise you and you'll be fine!

Oh My Goodness!!!! WELL DONE Daryl! I LOVE these birds! You should be very, very proud of yourself! You'll be representing your State at Nationals very soon. Keep up the good work!
  20. My dearest Liv, I am so sorry you got caught in the cross fire. Please accept my apologies. As I understand the bird is no longer yours and Kaz has ably and succinctly compiled how I felt about the subject. Did I breed it? Was it really a cock? Who knows! Do I care? No! All I will say is that just sometimes things are not the way they seem and you can read something into a situation and maybe you are right, and just maybe what you choose to believe has more to do with your preconceptions than anything else.

Just out of curiosity Matt, this beautiful boy: He is "uncle" - nest brother to Dad or Mum (who we haven't seen)?
  23. Hi to all crested breeders, I have been breeding this variety for 35 years and still learning about them. Breeding a Crested to normals is quite okay but you must understand about the prepotency of the crested gene in the crested bird. Breeding just any crest to a normal may lead to the dissaperance of the variety in your aviary. Breeding Crest to crest first is the best. F/C - F/C gives a chick which I call a DF this is the bird to out cross to the normal and any chick that is crested bring it back to the F/C. Welcome HR! Thank you for joining the ranks of the "participants" in this wonderful forum. Looking forward to your contributions.

You know the best thing about these birds? You look at the Dad, nice bird but a bit pinched BUT then you look at the Son and he has nice backscull ~ ie, Good pairing and Well Done!
  25. Fish tank to clean, show boxes to clean .... yawn, yawn but it needs to be done sooner or later My main focus today is to chill and spend quality time with my hubby ... he is cooking me lunch, Yum! Then pop over to have a cuppa with my neighbor who's just come home after having an accident. I am a homebody, if I'm at home I am happy.
