  1. Yes, thank you I am very happy and relieved that this "problem" had a positive outcome.
  2. That is unbelievably sweet! I don't usually even look at or vote for the Budgie of the Month comp, but if you posted that photo I would vote for it!
  3. So which variety are you considering dropping? Hopefully NOT the Fallows or BES's as we have so few good breeders of those varieties here in WA.
  4. Thanks for trying Dave However, I need a definitive answer so I will await the Photobucket expert's return to the forum. Kaz, you have if I recall rightly about 7 different Photobucket accounts, Can I close an account down and transfer the photos to a new account? or Will once that account is closed do all my posted pics disappear and do I need to upload them all over again? No, I am afraid that is not an option.
  5. Whoa! Would never have even suspected that those measures are in place Sadly there must have been a precedent for this to have come into effect. I guess that's why this year for the blue rings it isn't a 10 but (0 .... I had wondered about that!
  6. Thank you for that, but my question still remains, If I close this account will all the photos I have posted here on BBC disappear?
  7. It never rains, it bloomin' pours! okay, I would try and approach this rationally and not emotionally. Assess her age and projected life span and consider what her quality of life will be IF you remove it and IF you do not. Weigh up the risks and costs involved, then sleep on it and reassess the next day. When you have come to a decision it will feel straightforward.
  8. The other week I logged on to my Photobucket account to find that masses of my budgie photos held in the main account had disappeared. This was not too longer after Photobucket upgraded so I don't know whether it is a glitch and they are somewhere hidden from me or whether someone cracked my account and deleted them (not hard to do, I had the lamest of passwords ) My question is, IF I close this account and open a new one will all my photos I have posted disappear too?
  9. Today is my last entry for Lou Lou and Luvie - they go back into the aviary later on today. Lou Lou's eye has made a full recovery~ Right Eye: I have grown quite fond of them both and will miss their early morning chatter. Lou Lou, I have decided, is a cantankerous squawker, very cute but still a squawker! She is like a young teenager who has had her heart broken and now decided on principle that she doesn't want anything to do with the male species! Of course that hasn't stopped Luvie, bless him! But from her perspective he is a lustful old man and she regular gives him the heave-ho When pairing time comes I will have to be very careful with who I put her to. What I have discovered is that if I tut at her and speak in a low voice she settles down - and blows! It is always at this point that Luvie thinks he has his chance and tries to sidle up to her annoyance ...
  10. renee replied to Bird Haven's topic in Competitions
okay, another go- Have you ever climbed Ulluru?
  11. You are Not alone GB! For some reason I had a *** of a time with ring codes - same number but different year and it wouldn't accept the entry .... so like you I made my own system
  12. Well Best of Luck whatever you decide to do.
  13. How is your hen doing today? Is she better, or will you take her to the vet tomorrow?
  14. Yes, genetics makes a big difference to size and features - BUT so too does nutrition Maybe the breeder had them on a special feeding regime so the chicks in turn benefited .... just a thought
  15. Not necessarily all chicks will be Dominant Pied, if paired to a hen carrying recessive variety genes then the Dommie Pied will 'dominate' but if you pair to a dominant variety, such as a Normal, then your odds are more 50:50. Who is Pat paired to? He's paired to Finnie, who is normal, Well that's genetics in practice for you Only the split Recessive Pieds carry a small spot on the back of their heads (like a couple of feathers), confusing I know, I got it all mixed up when I was starting out Visually Dommie Pieds have a much bigger spot.
  16. I don't bother with concaves. I put a couple of inches of Fussy Cat Litter in, some hens remove the lot so if after a couple of top ups they insist on chucking it all out I just let them go and wait for all chicks to hatch before topping it up again. I breed in the wet season over here so I don't have a problem of eggs drying out. I do find that it makes keeping the nest clean a quick and easy job to do with minimum disturbance to the hen and chicks. Plus it clumps together so not so much gets stuck on the chikies feet and claws. I regularly pop a cup of seed in as well so the hen has something to pick at and the little ones soon get the hang of eating seed (a very good tip from Kaz).
  17. Ooooh, I like the sound of that! I am hoping Tony takes a more active role in the Breeding room this year Currently he poopy bum spotter par excellence, and topper upper of seed, and aviary cleaner, and branch sourcer ... methinks I will have to come up with further inducements to encourage his expanding participation!
  18. WOW! Thank You NitsuD
  19. Well done Ratzy! But a word of wisdom ~ always have a back up or Plan B just in case.
  20. It all goes smoothly for you! I have heard so many horror stories about unsupervised tradies, I hope you get lucky with good ones!
  21. Yes, quite normal
  22. Well it is all go at your place! Last week the aviary ~ this week renovating your home! I thought you were on holiday!!!!
  23. I think your food colouring idea is good. I once marked a baby budgie on the bottom of its foot with a black marker permanent pen....it was gone in half a day Actually I did trial that but I was so concerned that I may inadvertently poison the newbies that I was very hesitant and tried just putting a dab on the foot (aimed at the claws ) but you're right, it does wear off ...
  24. Please stop taking everything I say as personally directed towards you, it is not. Precisely I am in the process of reassessing whether I will move chicks around so much as I did last breeding season, but that has more to do with the outbreak of French Moult I had and how I ended up infecting nests with affected chicks than anything else.
