New Bird To My Aviry
Now you come to mention it I can see what you mean in the photo above. I have a Clearwing hen like that, yes it can be passed on but as a chick is made up of 50:50 chromosomes I would take the risk if everything else is to your liking and keep records so you don't breed his chicks back to eachother in 2-4+ years.

Sick Budgie
I didn't know air sac mite was fatal ... in fact I'm pretty certain it isn't. Whatever the bioxytetracycline is, I think that is an antibiotic that is treating your birds for their sickness.

Hi There
I really like your chickies and you have certainly done the right thing with your set up! Why haven't you joined a Club? Your Show Budgies will do you very well on the bench.

Out Of Breeding Condition?
He looks good to me

Sick Budgie
Multiple deaths especially with very quick dying is very sinister . I would take a sample bird to the vet asap for testing. It does sound like cocci but it could also be something else like salmonella or ecoli ...

You know the grandchildren look even better than his children! I would imagine that is 'cause you line bred them?

Thank you for the advice!

I am afraid I am not experienced enough to know exactly what you mean, are you referring to the 2 dilutes which do have long flights?

Thank you Clearwing! I was lucky to start off with very good stock, the trick now is not to mess it all up! ... and hopefully improve over time.

Here are some 'happy snaps' of some of the Clearwings I have bred this past year. Unbeknownst to me, my camera decided to co-operate so they are in focus! The larger hens (2 red rungers, a sky and cobalt) are from a pairing I did quite early on in my breeding season from a Sky Clearwing (from Nubbly) and Normal Cobalt split Dilute (Jeff Lloyd). As a result their wing markings are darker but so too is their body color, quite vibrant in fact. Cobalt (fuzziness makes her wing markings look even darker ) Sky (sorry flash went off) (between Light green clearwing and opaline pied) Then are the 2 Clearwings or more likely Dilutes (blue rungers) from a Dilute (I bred) x Sky Clearwing or Dilute (Gearing), a Sky and Grey. (either side of rec pied hen) The rest are all (blue rungers) from Nubbly x Gearing pairings. (a couple of Green boys) (Cobalt Violet hen next to DF Yellow) (some more Green and Blue series) (more Green series and one or two Cobalts on the ground, yes - if you look closely you can see which ones )

Lou Lou And Luvie
Time for an update ... Lou Lou was her usual photogenic self so pics are a bit blurry .... yes, I know, I know- blame it on the camera, blame it on the bird! In case you just can't see it I can tell you that the swelling has almost disappeared and her inner eye is pink now and no longer red and inflamed.

I Just Bought The Coolest Thing!
Ever since I left a half-full bucket in the breeding room overnight and a newly acquired adult budgie escaped from his quarantine holding cage and flew across the room and suicided in the water I have had an aversion to putting any water anywhere near my birds. Now I know many breeders leave shallow water dishes in the aviary during a hot spell but I cannot bring myself to do so. :glare: So Best of Luck and I hope you do not have any misfortunes! It is a lovely idea! :thankyou: Just had a thought - I hope it runs on batteries 'cause little budgies love to chew anything in sight and you could end up with a mass electrocution if they go for the cable. :yellowhead:

Plastic Nest Boxes
Me neither. But I'd be very interested in your trial if and when you go ahead with them. :yellowhead: Just one question, cleaning .... wouldn't it dampen the cardboard too much? :thankyou:

Unless it is a clear cut case of gross animal abuse the RSPCA is a toothless tigre. The best thing you can do is vote with your feet and not support them.

Eye Infection
Oooo it gives me the heebie-jeebies just to look at it. I can't even see what area is affected or whether she still has an eye under that. Are you still thinking Ionic Silver as a possible treatment or do you think it is too bad for that? How long has this been going on? Did it flare up from one day to another or was there a steady digression? I SECOND that.

Greywing
Renee if your clearwings have markings that dark grey....I would give up breeding them if I was you On the contrary, I must expressed myself badly. The Clearwings' markings are exemplary ... but as it is just my first year breeding I have yet to build size and feather into them So they resemble the above photo in size and shape.

Baby Budgie In Bird Shop
Yep, I know the place too. Last time I was in there (and I am happy to say it was a long time ago) there was a dead budgie in the holding cage. When I notified the manager he gave me this look as to say it was my fault!
