Hot Days Are With Us Already!
Well pebblz if they were still perching it means they were coping pretty well indeed! When it gets really hot for them they go to ground and sit there panting ... the danger sign is if they lie prostrate on the floor with their wings out IF you see this it is EMERGENCY time. Sometimes they can pick themselves up with no extra bother when it cools down BUT you need to be aware that the prostrate look is NOT a good one and if I see it I intervene pretty darn smartly. Fresh from the Perth Weather website: Perth is experiencing the warmest summer on record with a average maximum temperature of 31.6C so far - on par with the summers of 1931 - 1932 and 1977 - 1978. Perth's average summer maximum temperature is normally 30.2C.

Lou Lou And Luvie
You can use the teabag itself Renee. How many times you must guage by checking her...maybe twice....your choice. i bath twice if just red looking and if inflamed three times per day for two to three days then twice for week or intill normal but keep seperate for longer Kaz and GB. Here's a close up of Lou Lou's eye: (maybe a bit blurry, she was not the most co-operative of models)

Lou Lou And Luvie
Well I bathed Lou Lou's eye twice in salty water and then today so far twice more using a soft facial wipe dipped in tea. It is looking heaps better! :hap: How often should I bathe her eye per day? :sadsorry:

Renee - Triple C is NOT a sulfur based med it is an ANTIBIOTIC. Really! Well you learn something new every day :hap: In any case it is good for fixing pooey bums.

Hot Days Are With Us Already!
Well it is 10am and the mercury is on the rise ... currently 31C in the shade. :sadsorry: Drinkers are done, fresh seed supplied and sprinkler will be going on as it approaches 35C. No fatalities yesterday :hap: Yes, they went to ground and looked more like drowned rats than show budgies but when the temperature dropped a bit they were all back on the perches and chirping away.

Lou Lou And Luvie
Interesting you should say that, I had hoped the Baytril would clear up any infection but it did diddly-squat so Lou Lou and Luvie have been on probiotics since Friday. :hap: I think I may keep them on the probos for today (it is so hot) and once the ionic silver arrives give her that and perhaps give her a quick course of doxy. :sadsorry: Really I am playing it by ear for the moment. :hap:

Breeding Pairs 2010
I am not sure whether there are any hard and fast rules as to how many clutches they have - be it 1, 2 or even 3. It comes down to breeding conditions in your breeding room and the breeding condition of your birds.

Good tip! I think I'll try that one now as I have bathed her eye in salty water BUT it wasn't boiled ...

Yes. We can only hope that we get a peak and then it cools off for a bit before peaking again .... if we get a run of scorchers one after the other it really gets difficult.

Yes, it really is a scorcher today. We are taking refuge inside the air conditioned house but the birds are stuck outside ... it is on days like these that I picture a state of the art facility with air con for my little darlings Ice cubes in drinkers, sprinkler system on .... now we have to wait and see. I can hear the young uns carrying on so at least that is a good sign.

Lou Lou And Luvie
Yes they do .... but you need a prescription How will salt water affect the really red part of the outside of the eye? Won't it just annoy her more?

Aviary Security
Yes, these days I lock up. I began that habit the moment the new flights were finished.
