What Is Your Definition Of A Bird Mill ?
I did not mention bird mill in my reply, I was addressing your concern that a slander campaign was being waged against you and those are my thoughts.

What Is Your Definition Of A Bird Mill ?
Turn the other cheek. Some people have nothing better to do than spread rumours, false allegations, and general ill will. Gossip is always more interesting to some than actual truth or facts, it is because the source of the like becomes the center of attention and feels better about themselves when they put someone else down. They never change because this activity is based on the feeling of envy. Not much you can do about them and their behavior so best focus on your own actions and do not stoop to their level. In fact I would disappear this topic altogether as you are only lending credence to their actions.

Good things happen to those who do the right thing - the Universe takes care of the rest. :raincloud: If you would like to take a more pro-active approach you could always try voodooism .... not tried it myself but I'm sure they'd be some satisfaction derived from sticking pins into a wax representation of these unscrupulous so and sos!

Hot Days Are With Us Already!
for Pebbles and Splat. It is horrible when you get a run of days over 40C .... I wish another cyclone would come through and bring rain and drop the temperature .... not a big one mind you, don't want those up in the Kimberly to suffer devastation, just a small one.

Greywings
All rung budgies are eligible for Nationals. Although the breeder could have to be a member of a recognized Club ... not sure about that. However, if you mean this year's nationals the answer is no. Because even though the Blue ring date started on September 1 2009, the rings read 2010! So, this May 2010 only Red rungers are eligible (ie. birds rung between 1.01.2009-31.08.2009) AND next May 2011 Blue rungers are eligible (ie. birds rung between 1.09.2009-31.08.2010). :grouphug:

Metro Budgie Club Championship Show
Yes, there is a temperature clause but it is too soon to know whether the 23rd will be too hot or not. So watch this space! I thought I'd post now so that everyone has plenty of time to organize if they do want to attend.

Metro Budgie Club Championship Show
Well it is the big one coming up this month ..... (drum roll) The Metropolitan Budgerigar Club CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW! A perfect opportunity for ALL Perth budgerigar lovers to come along and spend a few hours with the seriously sad budgie nuts :grouphug: Yes, that is us - the Show Budgie Breeders. I think judging will commence around 11ish and sometimes the Show Manager will do an interactive session whereby he brings birds up to the Top Bench and the Judge explains his/her reasonings behind the choices ... I am not guaranteeing this will happen - but it may. On Saturday our esteemed Treasurer Hans Sibbum will be giving a talk on Bird Health and how it impacts on us Breeders. Hans himself has had to give up breeding budgies due to their impact on his health. Coffee/Tea and Cake plus a sausage sizzle and cold drinks will be available from the Canteen for a few dollars each.

My Birds Are Unwell
- My Birds Are Unwell
Why on earth would you be in trouble?! Everyone has a different take on things and if we can't learn and grow from each other then we will go nowhere. I would hate to think that anyone felt like they would be in trouble for sharing what they know or think about the different aspects of budgie-ing. I just like to try and get people to think outside the box a bit. We are all good at parrotting each other but how often do we actually sit and critically think about the different points of view or how what we do actually affects the whole picture. Whether you agree with them or not is completely beside the point but you can pick little gems of information from each and every person. Hear, Hear! Interesting!- My Birds Are Unwell
It is over a 6 month period.- My Birds Are Unwell
I give Triple C for a few days IF I see pooey bums OR in the winter if rain has got into the aviary. Cocci is a primary infection and if you have an outbreak you pretty much know about it sooner than later ... I haven't had a mass outbreak - touch wood! Careful here Renee. Cocci is not just a primary infection. Oocysts are around all the time no matter how clean your aviary is. Cocci is also often considered a secondary infection if your birds health levels are down AND if you get a proper outbreak you will "know" about it when a substantial number of birds have already died. Cocci ocycts (eggs) need to sporolate to be infective to the bird and they only do this when temps are over 20 degrees and there is available moisture. At the change of the season here in WA when it is warm and damp it's a good plan to do a preventative treatment. In other areas I guess if you have warm wet weather for a a few days or more, preventative treatments should definitely be considered. Triple C is an antibiotic and will treat secondary infections that often go along with Cocci but will not treat the coccidia itself. And the comments about overmedicating and immune systems. I agree in principal but am torn two ways a little on this - Splat and macka - "the birds natural immune system"??????? And what the *** would THAT be after we jam them into a small aviary environment and breed poor immune systems with poor immune systems just because they might win shows? We have CHANGED these birds and we keep them in an evironment that it TOTALLY unnatural when you compare them to their wild ancestors. I struggle to understand the complete non medication regime in this situation. Not overdone so as to build bugs that are resistant to treatment as well as animals that are not exposed to bugs so have little natural ability to rally their own defenses but at some stage you have to provide some support for the conditions that we maintain our birds in. And don't think I'm having a go at bird keeping itself or the choices we make based on the hobby that we pursue but we also need to acknowledge this as a fact. Mmmmmmmm. Thanks Nubbly, food for thought. Maybe I will give a preventative course of Carlox in early March. Look, as I said - everyone is different. As long as I buy birds (and I love buying 'better' birds) I will always put them through quarantine and then come summer treat the flock. The last thing I want, and have avoided to date, is an outbreak of something during my breeding season.- My Birds Are Unwell

Cocci is a primary infection and if you have an outbreak you pretty much know about it sooner than later ... I haven't had a mass outbreak - touch wood! yea im still learning whats what of the illness world as in whats really bad what treatable whats pretty much their for good and needs to be kept under wraps what causes it and is it from my doing or en -edibally going to happen regardless of my husbandry Well, see everyone is different ... I am obsessive about Mega just 'cause I see it as the "silent" killer .... it weakens the immune system and is so prevalent in today's budgies. I am also obsessive about Doxy and give it to all my chickies in the kindie cage before being released into the Baby aviary as well as the breeder birds over the summer. Right or wrong I have been recommended it as a "booster" of the immune system because it is a broard spectrum antibiotic. But I should add that inevitably you get a couple of birds that despite everything you do are just weak and mope about the aviary all day and never seem to come good ... they get the 'tough love" approach and if after all the routine meds treatment they are still not better I put them into a holding cage with easy access to food and water and wait for them to either come good on their own or cark it.- Help With Feeding Baby
I am afraid sometimes this does happen in spite of our best efforts. I am so sorry the little one did not make it.- Finnie's Breeding Journal
Don't stress! Newly hatched chicks get fed very little but regularly. Mum is feeding the other two fine so in time this one will be "stuffed" too! You'll get the hang of ringing with experience! Better to have it fall off and need to be re-rung than leaving it too late .... now THAT can be stressful! You are in winter right now so incubation time can be longer! Sounds like it is all going well ~ Good luck!- My Birds Are Unwell
