Got to admit I'm with Nubbs on the Chaos Theory otherwise known as the 'Butterfly Effect' and 'Fractals' are just awesome. I am not familiar with the Chaos theory but have heard of the "Butterfly Effect", didn't know they were one and the same. The thing about the Butterfly Effect, at least the way I see it, is that it is a fascinating theory but I sometimes wonder if really you need to take into account "relative and simultaneous effects". IE, was that cyclone really the effect of a little butterfly flapping its wings elsewhere, or were there other factors in play such as atmospheric highs and lows, variable oceanic temperatures, etc?

I was very lucky that Heinrich was able to do a Post Mortum on both birds earlier this afternoon. In addition he kindly allowed me to be present, explained in detail what he was doing and looking for, AND when I popped out for a bit of fresh air he got his assistant to take photos in my absence (they are the in focus "good" photos) www.hiltonvetclinic.com.au So let us begin with age before beauty, and the first to cark it. Grey Spangle 06 Cock bird. This was a surprise, macro examination revealed a huge tumor attached to the kidney. In Heinrich's words, the reason he was able to survive so long was that his other kidney was doing all the work. The tumor in relation to his healthy heart: Tumor dissected, this is by the way his right kidney: Yes, he had a poopy bum last week and I pulled his vent feathers and let him go but what killed him was a massive kidney tumor. GreyGreen Normal 07 Hen bird. Macro examination revealed no obvious cause of death. It was observed that she had a "dirty vent". A crop swab was taken and tested but no "live trichomonas" were observed and therefor test was inconclusive. A further full examination was conducted with all major organs looking perfectly normal. Liver: Heart: Stomache (or Proventiculous and Gizzard): Nothing untoward observed upon dissection of proventiculous and gizzard either or small intestine. Moreover a detailed examination of crop was undertaken and no lesions consistent with Canker observed. (sorry to repeat the photo but please have a good look at her "throat" - no ulcers or lesions) Result of macro examination was inconclusive (ie, internally she looked healthy) so Crop and Poop swabs were taken and sent off for further tests. Results back next week - Watch this Space!

Autopsy
Luvie doesn't look sick at all! :rip: It is Lou Lou with the bung eye. The cock had a poopy bum last week, the hen has always been weak and susceptible. Precisely! They are at the vet's in their fridge, Vet has not arrived yet. I have left a message requesting permission to take photos for here so hopefully we can match the conclusive diagnosis with pics.

The 21st!!!! Yipeee, we haven't had a major show for a while now! Yes DO come along and meet and greet. The budgies are gorgeous and the budgie breeders are a wonderful bunch too! Are we still Novices for this Show Kaz, or is it our first showing as Intermediates? Doesn't matter too much but I am looking forward to putting my birds up against Budgiebum's! :rip:

Hmmmmm, I thought so. Just as well I pulled the nozzles off last night and sterilized them with boiling water. shoes, clothes, etc TOO?! Well it's one for all, all for one... Another tip for Beginners: Even though you have separate aviaries, Treat your birds as One Flock. Would you agree Kaz?- The Chronicles Of Luvie
Here's another tip for Beginners Last night I was contemplating the possibility of having a Chlamidia Psittacosis out break in my Adult aviary and feeling very relieved that the Young Uns had not been exposed in any way ... when it HIT ME! When I change the drinkers I usually give both nozzles a scrub but I have not been meticulously keeping each nozzle with each bottle! What about the risk of transmitting an illness from one aviary to another via an unsterilized nozzle? Do you think it is possible?- Quiche...........a Gift For Dave Mcminn
Wow! Now he is developing into a GORGEOUS bird! Spangle markings a bit fuzzy but who cares! I'd put him to another Spangle and breed DFs, though really with a bird of his caliber the possibilities are endless!!! LUCKY, LUCKY YOU Dave.- The Chronicles Of Luvie
Not quite in the dark. I was hearing what you said and just before 7.30pm Perth time the ABC extended 7 day weather report was presented and I was able to see that we are in for a nice stretch of balmy days so any fears I had of Hot Days and the risk of over-medicating were dispelled. Thank you Russel Wolf! So I moved very quickly indeed! You were right to have prodded me into a re-think. to you both.- Karma
wasnt you GB.............it was Matt i also splet politly wrong lol- The Chronicles Of Luvie
The feathers are wet due to run off from drops. Patience, patience, I am not saying no - just need to think a bit more whats their to think about you plan to doxcy her anyway or are you planing on breeding loulou soon ren i personally think what your doing is a bad example to the people on here whom are not show breeders and know no differences in illnesses and issues or even whom are not show breeders and breed budgies pet type for one you have subjected 4 birds to a possible illness and two you have not even consulted your vet you have no clue what your dealing with and the problem has recurred the eye does not need to leak liquard nor have cheesey gunk on it as you said it does not need to be a bad case of parra birds hold it at different degree of leavels the eye only need to be swollen and the few feathers surrounding be removed from rubbing whats to think about ren your always going on about good old doxcy yet now you have a real reason to use it not just as a preventative you need to think about it sorry but i think thats a bit hypercritical of the advice you so often give a sick bird so anyone whom does not understand the importance of illnesses and the need to work out whats going on to prevent other birds from getting same issue needs to be removed from all other birds at least untill you have pin pointed the issue causing the bird s signs needs to be quarantined four a period of at least 4 weeks after problem is resolved ,...unless not life threatening and you know it can not pass on to other birds before the bird is then reassessed and cheacked over before releasing back to flock at a healthy weaight im sorry ren but your not dealing with this issue in my veiw your just band aiding it with that stuff vet doxcy what ever but it needs something not a friend it is not not eating as its alone its sick with what that's your job to discover and find out then treat appropriately all your doing is risking birds to what ever she has your birds ....my opinion Yes, yes Thank goodness for Freedom of Speech. You are a little late though - I have already put everyone on Doxy.- The Chronicles Of Luvie

Except she doesn't have any watery discharge at all and no cheesey bits either ... but I am considering that the white dot I saw was the lachrymal duct and that as soon as the swelling dropped it disappeared? I will sleep on it and check her eye in the morning and take it from there.- Karma
I've had a Christian upbringing and my parents, Bless Them, are Evangelical Born Againers (yes the sing-alongers and hands in the air kind ) But having lived in different countries and experienced different cultures I have embraced a more inclusive view of the world, although at my core I am an Anglican - I guess Sunday School really does influence your adult perspective!- The Chronicles Of Luvie
ren have you put lou lou on doxcy yet as i think she should go on it my friend had samething with same reacurance we doxcyed him seperatly with his long time breeding partener for 45 days the swelling is gone and has not returned they will stay seperate from her flock for 6 months to be sure as slight para what ever it is can cause this exact eye thing and the reacurance of it just think about it Actually, now you come to mention it, that is a very good idea. Everyone is due to go on an extended course of Doxy ... I have done the Carlox preventative medication routine and everyone is jumping out of their skins with vitality ... I will see how I go, might get Lou Lou back to normal and then commence the Doxy course.- Have You Ever
