Only an opinion .... The moment Mankind became conscious of its existence it created a system of beliefs to explain the meaning of Life.
  2. When my sis in law was in hospital earlier in the week for tests she asked me to pick up a pack of cigs for her on my way in. Not being a smoker i was shocked at the price of them. More budgie money for me if I am not a smoker I say Yes the hypocracy that went on in the 20th century with regards to the Tobacco industry is simply sad. Too bad we all know now that it is our fault for believing in the first place. So yes, we now pay for the priveledge to kill ourselves and clog up hospitals in the process. I like to hope that this slice of the pie goes towards improving Public Health, there would be a nice irony in that. Somewhat like the revenue from the pokies going towards funding Youth Sports programmes.
  3. That's exactly how one breeder described it to me ~ maybe these 'floor dwellers' all came from the same aviary!
  4. Tell you what , quit the cigs , buy some more birds with the money you save , then get your relaxation and time out in the aviary All in good time!
  5. Your right Ren , most aviarys would run at a loss and taxation are not going to where that. So that is why they stay out of the hobby world , they cannot make money from it as the majority looses . The Govt just imposes little taxes , such as the Parrot licence and dealer licences, fishing licences etc , this way they get a little piece of the Pie . They get their slice from me on the taxes on the ciggies I smoke - say no more.
  6. I suspect that if all Show breeders registered their Budgerigar Hobby as a business with its own ABN then most would be running at a loss and therefor not required to pay any tax at all. But the paperwork in itself would be an instant kill-joy. Read what Gerald Binks says on his website, to paraphrase - for every 10 you sell, you can purchase one good out-cross. The way I see it is we are in it to improve our birds and breed to the ANBC Standard- it's not about the $$$$! Some breeders do sell their birds (over East) at extraordinary prices ... woopy do, jolly good for them I say ~ I only hope the bleedin' bird breeds for you if you can pay that kind of money!
  7. Budgies may have started out as a hobby for us but now it is a passion. We owe so much to the hobby already, what began as a bit of pet therapy for Tony and I has grown into so much more. I only have look at how slowly but surely my beloved hubby is emerging from his shell to be grateful.
  8. Thanks Dave....His injuries are about a week old but I did watch him very carefully and kept him quiet and warm. It doesn't seem tender to touch and the wound she inflicted to his cheek is healing with no signs of infection, thank goodness. I just know nothing about the regenerative properties of beaks. I'm at a loss for why she turned on him like that but it wasn't pretty. Hope all is okay and he makes a good recovery. Remember budgies are very good at "hiding" how poorly they are feeling about an illness or injury such as this. Make sure you actually see him eat and if you are in any doubt take him to the vet asap. In fact I would get him looked over to be on the safe side.

Cool pics Utrav0x! There are some of me about the forum in previous threads I have posted .... quite a few of my bum too!!! I can't say I have a really nice one to put here .... I'll look around, but I think it involves scanning a photocopied one of my hubby and I together .... probable end up looking fuzzy!
  10. I knoooooow! And we had had such a nice long period of tranquility.
  11. I think she's talking about frogs being loud in her neighborhood.... but the way that post is written makes it really hard to figure out what she's talking about. Am I right, renee? Frogs? Or loud people? Or like.... loud birds? It's really unclear. I did not pop my head out the front door but my neighbors told me that when they returned home the Police were out in force and there was a full on fight going on- not frogs, extra loud people.
  12. Pets Paradise Level 1, Westfield Shopping Town Bondi Junction, NSW Just making sure no one misses it!
  13. It's sooooooo annoying!!! I have to say it is the number 1 reason that I am a member with the RAC.
  14. Yep tiles are great, as too polished floorboards. It is looking really good Dave!
  15. You gave him a wonderful life! Don't feel too bad about the end.

Plastic fantastic! Not so brave. I had to take a break after the first Post Mortum and by the time I had returned the second was almost done
  17. So true! I use that term all the time.
  18. It sounds like everything is going really well Ratzy ~ Well Done! Yes, you are doing the right thing by dissuading your brother from getting in on the act and peeping on Marigold YOU are the carer and only you must be looking after them (keeping peeping to a minimum of course )
  19. Yes they do! The bigger the bird, the more bird-brained it gets plus more vulnerable to genetic abnormalities (such as feather cysts) and unfortunately in many cases, weaker and more susceptible to illness.
  20. I'm so glad for you Dave! Tiles seem like a really good idea.

No they've been sent away to a Pathology Lab - back next week.
  22. Our sleepy little neighborhood has been visited by a mob of visitors who are expressing themselves with great vigor in the park opposite. Does it bother me? Not at all! With any luck they'll start up a corroberee .... now that would be fun! Only kidding! I am going to bed like a good little girl and will put in my earplugs! Live and Let Live!
  23. However, you are right .... we sometimes do use it as a euphemism for "sending to God". Earlier in the year I had a vet home visit and he advised me to "cull" some chicks that were affected by French Moult in the nest. I have tried to follow his advice and most have been culled, the remainder await another day when I am feeling resolute. okay, quick edit! USUALLY it means we are moving on birds that do not meet our standard or serve no purpose in our breeding plans.
  24. We cant convince you with inducements AND a free ride in a hearse ?
  25. STOP while you have some semblance of a grip on reality and seek assistance before it is too late!
