  1. I suppose the main thing you have to think of is what are you going to do with him if despite your best efforts he gets worse and isn't manageable? Do you have an aviary to put him in if he can't function as a house pet, etc, etc. I have a number of the medium size parrots with 'emotional issues'(which I have rescued from various situations) and they are hard work to care for. They live in aviaries as I can't have them in the house with my kids, which is fine as they are very happy out there but it is something that you need to consider. Some have got better with work and some haven't as their bad habits are so ingrained but I loves them all the same
  2. OMG I am so jeolous!!!!!! I had a great SLR (not a digi but I still loved it) and my oldest broke it on me a while ago, I was devestated My hubby said he was going to get me one this chrissy but I said no since we have to save for the new house, so I'll wait until next year. What sort did you get, I expect reviews to help me decide what sort I should get
  3. My gorgeous hubby has said he will buy me some new budgies for my birthday(next week)/christmas!!! I'm thrilled, I made the suggestion expecting him to roll his eyes and laugh at me and he just said "sure love I could do that" I have sent an email to one of the breeders from our club who's areally nce bloke and I know breeds alot of spangles and DF spangles so I'm hoping he might have some for me or that he can recommend someone. I still won't have heaps to spend, maybe a couple of hundred if I'm lucky but I have a feeling this breeder will be good value if he has some culls he thinks will suit me
  4. Can you post a photo? It would really help as we may be able to see the reason
  5. It's just sitting there at the moment and it's not going anywhere so whenever is fine  As you can see from the photo it's fairly bulky so you would need a biggish boot to put it in, I'm not not positive it would fit in a normal boot.
  6. Hey I have a box here you can have if you like which I have already put wire on the front as I was turning it into a box to breed tiels in, just needs some doors cut in the sides and a nest box installed. We started making it when I still had the tiels and then decided to get rid of them so it was never finished. (could be used to breed budgies in though I just don't have the space for it  )
  7. okay it sounds like it about the same as mine or even a little bigger  You could happily put some budgies in there and even a few cockatiels if you liked. I have mostly budgies plus one tiel and quails in my big one. I used to have ten cockatiels in it with the budgies but they made too much noise so I gave them away and just kept the budgies and the tame tiel that belongs to my son. That's assuming no nestboxes of course :hap:
  8. It really does depend how big an aviary you are likely to get Elise. Maybe you should discuss that with your folks first and let us know and then we should be able to make some good recommendations for you
  9. No Joey lives with my lorikeets, rosellas are too agressive to be in with smaller birds like budgies, they can be very bossy much like lorikeets in temperament. Here are the new aviaries all set up in my yard during the recent hailstorm
  10. I have never seen you say anything that made you look like an idiot.
  11. Here is my cinnamon spangle so you can definately have both mutations in the one bird
  12. I can't say I have ever had trouble understanding you GenericBlue. I remember you did talk about the reasons why you had trouble early on in one of your posts and I think all of us here are happy to just work with you when you have trouble sometimes. Please don't leave if that is the only reason.
  13. No I have a cinnamon spangle and her markings are most definately cinnamon
  14. The main thing you need to realise that cinnamon is a sex linked gene, it is inherited in the same way as albino. So unless the cock you put her with is cinnamon or split then you won't get any cinnamon chicks
  15. Foot colour is partly linked to the colour of the bird. Mutations such as recessive pied and ino will have pink feet
  16. Aaargh, I wish I could find the post where they were talking about it, there was some sort of strange relationship between the two....
  17. When you got him did the person catch him with their hand? Youmay find that his behaviour is because of this
  18. I would start by putting something he loes in your hand likemillet so that he starts looking what you might have for himrather than freaking out
  19. In my opinion you are better to wait a couple of months before getting the other one.
  20. They are two different genes but I believe that the combination of them somehow lead to clearwings, there was a good post somewhere if I can find it...
  21. Might have to get me one of those
  22. Are you talking about the yellow/grey shopvacs that are chunky and cylindrical in shape?? If so the breeder who hosted our chrissy barbie for the budgie club uses one and he vacuums his entre breeding area and even does inside the cages with his and then just empties the chamber out. Ine his words he "treats it like cr@p and it works great", he recommended we all go out and get one
  23. The update is that I am feeding this mix wet to my pair with chicks at the moment and they are happily slurping it up  I had been giving a fairly similiar mix but in the solid form of each of the parts (ie. the peas, etc were still whole) and one major disadvantage was that it would take a couple of days for them to soften so lots of changing water, etc. This mix can be put in straight away as a fairly wet slurry and will thicken naturally over the next hour or so as the pea/lentil dust soaks up the water.
  24. It seems the video has been deleted???
