  1. I love the concept of captive foraging, I use things like grass seedheads and I thread them into strange places for them to pull them out of, hang branches around and I'm in the process of inventing new toys at the moment which I'm going to incorporate gumnuts filled with seed into!
  2. Not a problem at all I have an empty patio aviary at the moment so there is space if you do need the back up I don't have any inside birds unless I have an ill one or bubs that have to be handraised so babysitting is an easy ask too as there are no quarantine issues I honestly can't pay much if anything for him if you decide not to take him and the lady still wants to rehome him but I can offer him an exclellent home :ohmygod:
  3. Yeah I know!! It's getting pretty close to chrissy now and the weather doesn't look like getting much better so might be after new year now I think Maybe the second week of January or around then. If people PM me when they definately CAN"T make it I'll try and work around people as much as possible
  4. Pity you aren'tin Melbourne, I might have been able to breed you one of theose I'm pretty sure I have a YF cobalt recessive pied cock and a visual violet recessive pied hen in the aviery
  5. It probably just means she holds her wings high, dropped wings is more of a concern(but can still be genetic) as it can indicate weakness
  6. She looks to be only a baby which may account part of her thinness, alot of babies are thin for a little while after fledgin until they learn to eat properly. She may have been taken to the shop a little early before she was fully weaned. She is cinnamon NOT dilute The cinnamon dilutes the birds colour making them that washed out tone;)
  7. Ideal position of the wings is held with the tips touching below the base of the shield(the darker coloured feathers on the rump), some birds hold their wings high and some low and it can be genetic or dietary.
  8. I can sell you some new ones for 60 cents each if you like JB. I'm expecting mine to arrive in the mail next week sometime and I'm getting 80 so I won't need them all at this stage Erin
  9. They are long and skinny, like fingers
  10. Hi Elise, I am not sure which outlet of that particular chain it is but I have reported another one of their stores in the past for having about 15 kittens in a tiny cage(some of which were maybe 4 weeks old) and they got into a lot of trouble. You need to contact the local council and they will send someone out to inspect. In Melbourne it isn't RSPCA who inspects pet shops it's the council ranger :laughter: If you find out what that council area is, call them and ask to speak to the animal ranger. Then say to them that you have seen budgies with really bad scaley face being sold and that you have also seen dead birds in the shop in the past they will send someone to look
  11. Another thing to consider, I have a DF spangle who has iritated eyes which makes them look quite red, gives them kind of a plum look...
  12. 93. When your brand new car is left sitting out in marble sized hail stones because your garage was turned into a bird room so you have no where to put it under cover.
  13. Don't know if others already saw my one but here it is. The two kids with the dogs and the lorikeet as backing dancers http://elfyourself.jibjab.com/view/6M4cIgXz62ZGBvLe6WQS
  14. Little tiny food fbowls that clip on the side of the cage
  15. Well I always feel like I get a fair bit for my money when I shop at my seed place. Today I spent $180 and got: 40kg budgie seed 40kg parrot seed 20kg special tonic seed 20kg good dog food 2kg lorikeet food For anyone who thinks homebrand is a good buy that equates to about $1.20 a kg for the regular seed (tonic seed is like a supplement and is more expensive )
  16. GREAT!! My produce store sells a lot of horse supplements so I'll check it out.
  17. I haven't been able to find a chemist that either stocks or will order iodine forme, anyone knowwhere I can get it?
  18. I'm heading to the stockfeed place this morning and hoping to get some recommendations from people. My birds get pink minerals and whole egg in finger drawers but I'm hoping to provide all their supplementation this way as I'm not keen on the idea of forcing supplements on the birds by adding the to the water. Can anyone recommend a powdered calcium supplement that can be fed this way, also any others that are worth getting my hands on... I'm going also pick up some tonic seed which one of my club members recommends which is actually made up by my stockfeed place.
  19. A Quickie in the Bushes There are two statues in a park; one of a nude Man and one of a nude Woman. They had been facing Each other across a pathway for a hundred years. When one day, an angel comes down from the sky and, With a single gesture, brings the two to life. The angel tells them, 'As a reward for being So patient through a hundred blazing summers and Dismal winters, you have been given life for thirty Minutes to do what you've wished to do the most.' He looks at her, she looks at him, and they go Running behind the shrubbery. The angel waits patiently as the bushes rustle And giggling ensues. After fifteen minutes, the two Return, out of breath and laughing. The angel tells them, 'Um, you have fifteen Minutes left, would you care to do it again?' He asks her 'Shall we?' She eagerly replies, 'Oh, yes, let's! But let's change positions. This time, I'll hold the Pigeon down and you s**t on its head.' ------AND WHAT WERE YOU THINKING????
  20. That's what we pay here too but they are nowhere near as good as that guy.
  21. What's a bird worth from the seed supply place over your way??
  22. OMG, I am so flying over there to come to your seed supply shop!!!
  23. Currently I have five pet type chicks all belonging to Mo (the tufted) and his mauve hen. The ino hen is sitting on eight eggs, One belongs to one of the show types who is doing a dodgy job of sitting (and it's probably not fertile anyway), of the others I'm not positive how many belong to the tufted but I have the first laid egg of the inos marked so any that hatch before that one belong to the tufted and any after that egg are the inos A couple will probably get moved over to the tufted to balance things out a bit as they are all fertile. Ozzie and Lucy have two eggs now but I doubt they are fertile , the YF blue and green opaline have three eggs which don't seem to be fertile but I'll give them a few more days before I jump to conclusions and my crestbred hen is practically living in the nest box but is procrastinating about laying, the others still haven't done anything. I'm thinking about taking the front off a few cages, flipping them and changing the nest box position to see if that helps. Damn show types...
  24. If JB is still planning a visit to me next week it won't matter for much longer as she'l have a man to flirt with
