  1. I was hoping you would reply Daz, do you find it distracts the birds having it set up like that as Kaz suggested? It was your set up I had in mind when i thought I would divide it.
  2. You weren't wrong Pearce, Kaz was just saying that if you had already been able to buy two of them you wouldn't need to know how to breed that colour as you would already have it
  3. I have lots of cute babies in the box at the moment Chris so Snowy will be spoilt for choice. I know how much she loved her little man and I know she will take wonderful care of this one too.
  4. I'm about to breed some very similiar to those Jess once my crested girl finishes quarantine. It is a violet recessive pied I would say. The person that took that photo was lucky to get the violet to come out so well in a photo, I'll see if I can find pics of the ones I have Just looked at the picture again and realised it has a pied spot so maybe a young dom pied which hasn't yet got it's iris rings This is the under tail of my recessive pied male gonna put him with this crested hen who is the same colouring as the one you put above but just with a higher proportion of white area
  5. Personally I'd be calling the other vet and asking for a quote for the same thing the vet charged you for and then if there is a massive difference calling your first vet back and asking them to explain why such a big fee diff. Just me though and I like to stir things up
  6. 50% skyblue 50% cobalt 50% yellowface 100% normal unless cock is split for something sex linked or if both birds are split for something recessive
  7. Howmany daylight hours ishe getting,if he is ghormonal decreasing the daylight time might help
  8. Just wondering what the minimum distance I need to leave from the front of the breeding cabinets to the aviary divider is for the breeding birds to be comfortable. I am planning to access the breeding birds via doors in the aviary so I can really make the distance as small or large as I like as I won't have to actually be able to get into the space myself. Obviously the smaller the partitioned area for the cabinets the larger the space left over for the flight area.
  9. Is it just one or two birds? If so PM me your details Denise, I don't have heaps at the moment but I can put enough for a few treatments in a little bottle and post it to you if you like.
  10. Candled and chucked all the show type eggs as they were all clear *grrrr* Have made a few changes to breeding cages in the last few days so hopefully things will get better from now on in. The crested show pair finally laid one egg after fluffing around in the nest box for weeks but yesterday she cracked it , the next one is due today so hopefully she has more luck this time around. The tufted pet type pair have six babes in the nest now all doing beautifully. The ino/spangle pair have the first of their babies in the nest and 5 or 6 more eggs to go. One of the tufted chicks has plum eyes so I'm guessing dad must be carrying cinnamon but time will tell
  11. At his age it would be a bit like a 15 year old boy having kids, yes it's possible and chances are pretty good he knows what to do but that doesn't mean he'll do a good job of it. Birds at that age have more of a tendancy to smash eggs and also to have babies simply die due to bad parenting. Really better to wait
  12. Glad it ll worked out, I always get worried if it sounds like a baby I have rehomed is ill, good to hear it was a false alarm. I'd make a corny joke right now but it's early and I can't think of one...
  13. It would be a male since the dad is opaline. All hen chicks would inherit opaline, any tht don't inherit the opaline must be male.
  14. I didn't see that last night, a bit tired I guess. If it does have a spot there then yes it is pied, howeverit looks likeit could be opaline too if the down is really white as it appears to me.
  15. Even if the husbands/(wives) don't get into it they do eventually give up and realise it's easier to just go along for the ride
  16. I don't think bub number 3 from the second lot is a pied I thnk it's an opaline
  17. I don't know about the cost of specifics at my vet but I saw him today and spent about 1/2 hour with him looking my lorikeet over because she has developed swelling on one side of her face. He suggested an antibiotic which I happen to have at home already so all he charged was the consultation fee of $26.50 which is his standard 'small animal' rate. He is EXCELLENT with birds and very knowledgable, he explained to me the ins and outs of a bird sinus today and the various possibilities that could be causing the swelling. I don't pay for wing clips and have clipped birds up to galah size on my own, I would be happy to do my corellas if needs be but I don't want to as I hope to breed them.
  18. Chris how far is Templestowe from you? I know a vet who is great with birds, he saw my lorikeet today for a swelling on her face and only charged $26.50 for the consultation. Is this one of the guys from me??? Also I can't remember where in Melbourne you were, I don't mind having a look if it helps
  19. Snowy is going to take some time over the next few weeks to grieve for her little man and then she is going to come and get another baby from me when she is ready.
  20. It's like a playdog centrefold isn't it
  21. Not quite. It's from a bar stool that was never put together and for some reason the rest of it got chucked out but I found this after we moved. It's the bit that goes between the legs for you to put your feet on :hap:
  22. I'm glad you think so, I always look at it and think "Hmmm...I must mop the floor, look how gross it's looking" I'm a bit of a perfectionist though
  23. At that age though will a vet be able to do much anyway? I mean I have no issue with taking a bird to the vet of course if it would help but if the vets going to look at it and say "well it looks like it's X, Y or Z but I can't treat it at this age so just wait and see" well it just seems like a waste of money that could be better spent.
