  1. So an uncoded bird can still be shown by basically anyone then??
  2. Good idea Kaz I was just explaining to JB about the problem of using all my rings
  3. okay well I would prefer to put a normal over the spangle so we have the choice of the green or the grey if that suits you. Is our lacewing a spangle tpe lacewing or a normal type wing pattern?
  4. They are made from Aussie native timber so they should be fine, there aren't any native timbers used in timber extraction tht I wouldn't be happy to give to a bird as the majority will be eucalypts anyway. I can actually tell what some of those woods are on sight anyway. I can see redwood, yellow box and coconut timber there straight off even in the photos. The joys of studying botany
  5. PersonallyIlike them better with the bib
  6. Yeah I was thinking about doing that too Una. I'll see when they arrive what I decide to do. I've asked her to choose me a box with a good propriton of unvarnished ones. I'm hoping the box might have a bit of info on it and if it says the varnish is non-toxic I might not need to bother??
  7. Best bet is as the next egg hatches foster one about the same age as the other hens chicks over (the oldest is best if they have pretty much hatched at the same time.) Keep doing this until you feel they are at the right number of chicks each. You may find the second hen has less trouble this time around anyway as she will be more eperienced
  8. Do the ones at your work have a solid base Jess or are they the ring type that just goes around the sides?
  9. Yes it's an Ozzie egg but we know what Ozzie's like :hap: They both got a super bikini wax(plus Ipull a few away from his eyes) so ya never know. I've never seen them doing much but hey I've never seen some of the others doing much either and they've managed eggs so fingers crossed At the moment I have seven pet type eggs and four babies and three show type eggs, the four babies and the first few of the eggs are from my crested pet type . Some of the show types are showing interest in the boxes more today so hopefully that's a good sign after I swapped a few pairs around. I have a plague of opalines so I only want normals and spangles now (I don't care if they are cinnamon or greywing, etc as long as they aren't opaline)
  10. Yep that's including Lucy who is now on her first egg as of today :hap:
  11. For anyone wondering she had like five more boxes of the beads :hap:
  12. I buy from Greensborough stockfeeds and they are brilliant :hap:
  13. I have some plastic bangles over some of the perches but none of mine do that!! They just kind of throw them around with their beaks
  14. Lip and Len aren't that bad and they are hens too so you have to expect them to be less developed than a cock. Off the top of my head these are the cocks I have spare at the moment light green opaline grey normal green normal green opaline grey opaline (sorry bad photo) There might be one or two others but my brain is goingto mush right now
  15. Hey if you want to joint breed this season JB I don't mind sending a couple over to your girls Not sure that I have the exact types you want though, but atleast you'd get a few chicks this season to hold onto for nextyear
  16. Standing in my aviary today I realised that excluding my pet types the ricketts hen and one hen who I have already tried this season and doesn't seem interested at the moment I have only one show type hen left but about 7 show type cocks Well I figure I may as well put her in the cage vacated by the one who's not interested but how should I pick the cock? Should I simply pick the best cock overall or should I go for another opaline since she is one... I actually really like about four of the cocks and if I had enough hens I would set up a few extra cages and put them all down but I just don't have the hens
  17. Oh gosh JB, I was so worried about the little guy I didn't even think to take photos
  18. I have four babies!!! I gave the little one a slight hand this arvo as it had been at it for a while with not much progress. I didn't do much just broke off a piece of shell about the size of my little finger nail to provide extra air and that got the baby moving. It had stopped moving and gone very quiet in the egg so I think had I not intervened I would have lost it. Once it was moving again I left it in the egg and popped it back in the box and checked on it half an hour later and it was out and kicking
  19. How old is this chick?
  20. It means we have the inos, the Dark eyed clears, the DF spangles, the black eyes selfs all basically identical except for difference in the eyes/cere/foot colour, so until you get up close they might as well all be in the same class
  21. Yeah someof he older members at my club were looking at my DF Ozzie who is almost identical to your one and saying what a shame the DF spangle had been turned into "just another yellow or white bird". They reckon we should go back to the days of the bib
  22. No reason a DF with suffusion can't be shown but it would loose points for not conforming to the standard so it might not win unless it was an exceptional bird in all it's other points
  23. I don't know but if greg doesn't want him....
  24. I can't have a turtle but if you decide you just want to give him away my old work has a MASSIVE outdoor area with a huge pond just for five turtles. The maintenance man feeds them every day at lunchtime and they are very spoilt. I'm sure they wouldn't mind an extra one
  25. It's in Oak Flats NSW though so no good for Melbournites like jwancia
