Bird show is on Sunday

Breeding Budgie's?
This might help to show you. This girl is cinnamon which means her colour looks washed out, if she wasn't she would be green like yours. You can see that the yellow has spread down her body turning the upper half of her green. In her case she is still blue from the waist down but some can be completely green so that it is hard to know whetghere they are green or YF.

Breeding Budgie's?
I replied on the other post but I can see the photos on this one! I can see a faint tinge of blue through the chest feathers and around their bums, would I be correct here? Given his brother is YF I suspect he may be YF type 2 which results in the yellow bleeding through some or all of the body feathers and turning them green.

Which Ones Should I Keep?
Possibly not for sale, I am swapping some budgies with someone tomorrow and just trying to work out what will be going. I have a heap of other birds that she has to choose from so not sure what I will have left. If I still have some to move after I see her I will put a for sale add up.

Which Ones Should I Keep?
I have no idea, I struggle to see the difference! I'll post some piccies... As well as the guy above there is another the same colour and these two normals. I also have this yellowy green guy: A normal A yellowy green opaline (although he has partial normal marking so not sure where he's at!) Another normal guy

Which Ones Should I Keep?
They are adults and have very distinct bright blue ceres, I think it is highly unlikely they would be females. I guess I am just asking from a genetic point of view, I don't want to lose anything by getting rid of both of the normals but if it's unlikely that I will then I won't worry. I actually have quite a few opalines and almost all of them are males, just lucky I guess . Here is one of the boys.

Which Ones Should I Keep?
I have four olive green males, I am moving two on. I have two opaline and two normals. Since opaline is sex-linked would I be better off keeping the two opalines? If I then breed these birds to a normal female will I get normal babies if I want them? I guess the females would be opalines but the males would be normals split for opaline is that right? I am not looking to breed for specific colours/wing patterns more trying to keep a diversity of different colours and patterns in my aviary.

A Thought On Detecting Psittacosis Carriers
If the immune system wasn't able to fight the disease at all it would go unchecked and the full disease would develop. What is stopping the disease in a carrier bird from progressing?

Photos Of Lots Of Water
Lucy looks like she is having a ball. When I was a kid if it was raining my mum would put a raincoat on us kids and send us outside to play in the rain, we thought it was great fun! A nice warm bath was always in order by the time we came in

A Thought On Detecting Psittacosis Carriers
They must build some sort of immunity, that is what a 'carrier' is. It's a bird that is carrying the disease but is resistant so doesn't show symptoms.

Has Anyone Ever Imported Birds Into Australia
It's all about racing pigeons

A Thought On Detecting Psittacosis Carriers
Yes they would Liv. I think a vaccine would be a great idea. There are many vaccines available for chickens and I think some can even be bought over the counter for people like commercial growers! It would be expensive for people with large aviaries but if you could do some sort of accreditation (like a couple of hour course) on how to give the vaccine yourself and then buy the vaccine over the counter on presentation of your course card that would be great.

Split Ring V Club Ring
I'm the same, scares the heck out of me that's half the reason I don't want to head down that road, I'm nervous enough putting a split ring on

Sexing The Newbie
Glad someone elses screen works

Has Anyone Ever Imported Birds Into Australia
Yep pigeons are still okay
-
Sexing The Newbie
It is a spangle, almost looks slate but that could be my screen! Looks like a boy on my screen but girls can get pale blue near the base of their ceres, if it is brown near the top and round the nostrils it might be a girl.

My Dogs
The first time I saw the photo (before I realised what he was) my first reaction was "Who would crop a kelpies ears!". I will have to take a current photo to show you how similiar they really are. Here you go

Has Anyone Ever Imported Birds Into Australia
Depends on the purpose I guess. There is no issue with importing high quality dogs for breeding from overseas. It really isn't up to the breeders in Aus to decide, as long as it can be done with little risk of introducing disease it is a great idea from a gene pool point of view, especially for uncommon species.

I have investigated, it can't be done

A Thought On Detecting Psittacosis Carriers
Thanks Karen you said what I was trying to say but better The main thing is that they need the full course of the medication whether it is administered as treatment for a known disease or prophylactically(sp?). The recommended course for the one I use is 40 days so that's what they get.

Sorry..but This Is The New Buddie Bird
I hope I have this right for you but I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Grey-green is the main body colour. Spangle is the marking on the tips of the wing feathers. When these are brown rather than black and the body colour generally becomes washed out we call this cinnamon. hope that's right

My Dogs
Elly every time I see your boy I am struck by the fact that despite being a completely unrelated breed he bears a striking resemblance to out good old aussie kelpies out here. This is my girl as a pup (so you have to imagine her thinning out and getting her adult face) with my old dog Beau.

Has Anyone Ever Imported Birds Into Australia
Can anyone tell me what's involved, including costs, etc. I imagine there is quarantine issues, etc. Not specifically budgies we are looking at larger birds like African Greys.
