A Beautiful Gift
Unfortunately we don't really have central bird rescue or wildlife resue here but I have let the wildlife hotlines know and all of the local pet shops and bird suppliers as well as vets and then signs and letterbox drops everywhere. So there aren't really any other options...

We are still putting posters up about Felix regularly, you never know when he may appear. If he comes home to us we will ust have two boys to love

A Beautiful Gift
He was a well meant gift, but they can't keep him so they decided not to give him a name so that his forever owners could name him. Apparently he already says Hello!

A Beautiful Gift
I will see if he is up to photos when he comes tomorrow. They obviously care very much where he goes, they wanted to bring him to us so they could see that he was going to a good home. He has been on his own at their house for over a month now so he should be able to meet my birds straight away which is nice, one less bird to try and have in quarantine (have a heap of budgies in quarantine at the moment).

A Beautiful Gift
As some know we tragically lost an aviary full of birds during the windstorms, the biggest loss of all for us was our tame galah Felix. Sadly he has not returned to us as yet. A person who heard of our loss contacted me today to offer me the gift of a tame galah. He sits on your shoulder and snuggles and they want to find him a great home. So our new boy will be arriving tomorrow and the first thing he will get is a ring on his leg with my phone number on it. We are so grateful for this wonderful gift, I was nearly in tears on the phone. He doesn't have a name yet, any ideas?

Mice In Aviary
If you use the bait blocks rather than pellets they can't drag them out into the aviary and scatter them for birds to eat. If you put a bait block into a little plastic container or a pipe with a hole cut in the end they would go in to feed but not be able to pull the bait block out through the hole. Also a recipe for non-toxic mouse bait: 50:50 plaster of paris or cement and icing sugar. Put the dish somewhere where the birds aren't likely to get to it. I haven't tried this personally but a bloke I know swears by it in his chook sheds. If the mouse dies in the aviary and a bird picks at the carcass the won't be poisoned that way.

My Babies
I would guess that the green bird is actually a YF but just looks green. Maybe the first is a dilute, though I am not sure of the genetics of that.

Found A Couple Of Nice Options For Serving Fresh Food
I thought about going the pedestal fans but didn't have any dead one's so it would have required a hunt, and for a total of $21 brand new in the end I couldn't say no

Found A Couple Of Nice Options For Serving Fresh Food
I have photos of my stand but I didn't think to take a photo of the bird feeders when I was there, if I go over the weekend I'll take a photo. Here's the stand: You can see how much food it hold, it's definately big enough for my birds!

Found A Couple Of Nice Options For Serving Fresh Food
I went trawling yesterday for options for a large platter for serving fresh food on. What I ended up with was a round bird stand which I got on clearance for $15 down from $50 from my local pet shop. Then what to use as a tray? I went to Bunnings and got a 40cm wide ceramic glazed plant saucer for $6. The stand is gold coloured and the saucer is heritage green so it looks quite stylish. I also found at bunnings ceramic bird feeders. Which were much the same as a large(44cm)deep planter saucer. They were glazed in nice colours with a little design in the middle. They have three holes near the edge so that you can put wire or chain on them to hang them up from the roof of the aviary. Quite pretty and also very large so would be suitable for seed or vegies for someone with lots of birds to feed. They were only $17.

Atlas And Optimus Prime
North Sydney, Bah... (Sorry Melbourne person here ) I haven't spent much time around the north coast area, but if you get a chance the south coast of NSW is gorgeous, they have some of the best beaches in the world. Melbourne's pretty good too

Hw Do You Sex Lutinos?
In humans males have the XY chromosome which means that sex linked conditions(which are carried on the X chromosome) like colourblindness show up in males more. The opposite is true in budgies. Because a female budgie has the XY configuration they only require a single copy of the X chromosome for a condition to show up. Male budgies are XX so they need two copies. You get one copy fromn each parent so the male chick must get an albino carrying X chromosome from both parents whereas a female only needs to get one.
