All the info I found on PBFD and everything I found said "Budgie people commonly call it French Moult", it's just unusual that it reaches the most severe form in budgies. Either way it doesn't seem like it to me, as it is only affecting the part of the wing that he is leaning on constantly.

Just looked up the early progression of French Moult. I highly doubt that is it but once I have my camera againa I'll post a picture

Feathers aren't bent Kaz. The pressure of him constantly lying on his side is bending the still developing bones in his wing. Feathers are perfect

Unfortunately my phone (and therefore the camera too) have gone temporarily walkabout so no photos. He isn't just lying down, he's falling over so heavily he rolls onto his back half the time and then has trouble righting himself.

The wet food I give the parents is a mix of soaked seed, chicken crumbles, Vetafarm budgie starter and lentils so protien intake should be good. It was fine on it's feet until two days ago when I first noticed that it seemed to be leaning on that side moreso.

Hoping for some suggestions. Yesterday suddenly my DF spangle which is the oldest chick in a nest of three seems to have trouble putting weight on one of it's legs and is constantly falling to the side. Seems to be also keeping it's head on a tilt. It's legs don't seem to be splayed but it does seems to have trouble using it's feet. It's two younger siblings seem fine, sitting up nicely on their feet no worries at all. They have calcium available in their water and of course mum and dad are on a great diet so I don't think it could possibly be ricketts. It seems to me that the muscles on that side are a little less developed than the other side I have had it out of the nest and I can get it to sit up on it's feet properly but it very quickly looses strength on that side and falls over. An added worry it that because it is constantly leaning on that wing it's soft little wing bones are getting bent upwards a bit too At this stage I have been trying to do a little gentle budgie physio, encouraging him to use it a bit more as there doesn't seem to be any injury there at all.

As long as they don't have a strong wood smell they should be fine if they have been made for animals Have a sniff of them before you put it in though

Mostly it's retired people who are breeders (including show breeders) who haven't necessarily been neglecting the birds but have just decided that they want to get out of the game because their health is failing or they just aren't able to do the cleaning, etc. anymore. We have got a few really nice birds off Ivan which have been from aviary clear outs.

Ivan clears out aviaries and birds for people that can't care for them anymore AV has been smart enough to make friends with him Think I might have to go and chat to Ivan

If it makes you feel better I think the little guys are often some of the toughest. The vet I worked for up north used to operate on rodents a lot including on a rat of mine to remove a breast cancer and they always bounced back quickly so hopefully everything should go well

Ummm, unless he is young Monty looks like a girl to me. The males develop little bits on the end of their main flight feathers and the one on the right definately doesn't have them, can't see the ones on the left bird.

See at the top of the wire front in the middle. There is a little screw that goes through the wood and presses the top of the wire. Older boxes without this can't be used in show, still fine for training purposes though

I think you would be better off removing the nest box altogether for the moment. As many of your budgies are closely related and also some are too young it would be better for you to put the nest box in the small cage and leave the hen in the aviary. That way you can choose who breeds. If you take the hen out and leave he nest box in chances are another hen will make use of it.

Also the old cages can't be used at shows anymore. You have to make sure they have the little screw that goes through the top middle of the front. :hap:

I would take the shelves out and put one of the shelves back in the centre to make two larger compartments.

They do in America (and in the version I read it wasn't kmart from recollection but one of the big US department stores)

Can we have a wing photo. I think I can see green spangles and that would also be confirmed by the bulls eye throat spots.
