  1. Hi Sandman and welcome to the forum. This place is fantastic! You will learn so much here and I'm sure you'll also enjoy sharing our own knowledge! Can't wait to see your flock. Enjoy
  2. Thanks all for the warnings. It's very scary when you think about what can happen when you're not around. Lucky you found it in time. You'd think there'd be some sort of standard, considering how nosy birds are and knowing that they get into everything. I'll be checking all my toys more closely before putting them in and regularly there after!!!
  3. Nice looking hen there Norm, wish I had a yellow face budgies... cute
  4. What a clever bird you have there... and it sounds so clear! Very cute
  5. Nice flock Max, I love the one on the very right of the shot. :hap: Can't wait to see some babies...
  6. maesie replied to Bea's topic in Budgie Behaviour
Yeah... they're sneaky little buggers. We used to have an indoor budgie named Rodger. He had a massive vocab list, esp when we sat around the kitchen table, but never in front of guests (unless he didn't know they were there :hap: )
  7. Cool Bea, they look great. I love the patty pan one. Never thought of using them... Your guys are going to have a great time with them :(Laughing out loud):

Good stuff. I reakin I'd be s****ing myself too. He prob knows you are doing it to help him! Cage looks fantastic, I'm sure they're loving the space...
  9. YUK!!! I'm watching the cricket which is in Perth and it looks really hot. Good Luck and hope all your birds do okay! :hap:
  10. So sorry for your losses. You and your daughter sound like you've had a bad start to the world of budgies, I'm sure if will get better from here on in. To clean the cage, I'd prob use vinegar or a cage cleaner from a pet shop (not the one you got the birds from :hap: , they should no longer get your business). Plenty of sun and air and see how you go. Just remember to rinse well with really hot/boiling water. Good luck with getting another budgie (from a breeder).

:hap: sounds like you have a candidate for 'Funnest Home Videos'... :hap:
  12. Looks like you'll be busy with all those birthdays and now the birthday cake challenge... YOU CAN DO IT!!! P.S. Ozzie shares a birthday with my sister :(Laughing out loud):

Hi Kellie and welcome to you, Bailey and Kaluah. Great names by the way. I'm sure you'll enjoy getting to know everyone here and learning as much as you can. Everyone is really friendly and have a wealth of knowledge. Never be afraid to ask anything and no question is ever stupid. I also looking forward to seeing a photo of your 'kids'... maesie xxx
  14. So sorry for your loss. It was very small. Looks like the chicks in my past breeding season (all were either dead in egg or killed by ants , and all very small). I hope your other twin makes it okay... Bonnie and Swoop look like they have got things under control... Have a few questions. (1) Were the twins in the same egg? (sorry if it's a dumb question) if not, how can you tell they are twins when they are this young I'm guesing due to there size it was the same egg. (Thanks Kaz, just read your post) (2) Is Swoop named for the obvious reason??? (Laughing out loud) Thanks xxx
  15. She's so sweet Kaz, and what a great foster mum!!!

Good on you! You're looking fantastic, and I love the name. Benjamin Terry will be a very lucky boy :(Laughing out loud):
  17. Pinocchio looks like a sweety... I have a few pair of budgies, and one pair continue to feed each other (male feeds female), even after breeding has ended... I guess it's love. Never heard of them doing it on their feet though, he must love them . The key, like the others have said would be to keep him busy. I have a toy for my cockatiels, can't remember what it's called, but I bought it from a pet shop. It's rubber and has holes all over it and I stuff it full of things, from food to branches. They love pulling everything out, and if your pack it really full, it can take them hours. Just a thought. I've heard about budgies who stop talking when they get mates, but never experienced it myself. I guess it depends on the budgie. Good Luck and keep us updated
  18. I might call this one FANG :hap: :hap: :hap: :hap: :hap: ... I have this image in my head now of the little one with vampire fangs comming out the sides of its beak... (Laughing out loud) (Laughing out loud) (Laughing out loud)
  19. The green food you're asking about I'm assuming is fruit and vegies... check out our FAQ's "food and nutrition" it has some great tips. My budgies LOVE corn on the cob... Hard boiled eggs are also good when they're breeding (shell and all) mashed up.
  20. ouch!!! ... Off topic--- when I was breeding last year, Crackle used to bite soooo hard it drew blood. I also nick named her goose, as when she was attacking me she sounded like a honking one!!! ---
  21. Sounds like you already have some great knowledgable people around you. It's exciting breeding budgies (or any bird for that matter), so much to look forward to. There are lots of experienced breeding here also, so I'm sure you'll get lots of great advice.
  22. Hi Max. Welcome to you and your flock. Congrats on your new arrivals. I know what you mean about the waiting process. You wait to see if they lay okay, then to see how many, then if they're fertile, then if they'll hatch, then if the parents feed okay, then if they all survive, then what colours they end up and then when they fledge... Whoo... make me anxious and excited just thinking about it. I'd love to see some pictures of your birds and especially the new chicks. Hope you enjoy the forum!
  23. In my experience I would not colony breed. I started out this way but ending up with toeless budgies due to the hens trying to kill each other. Regardless of how many breeding boxes I had, it didn't seem to matter. I prefer to separate them into smaller cages and pair them up. If you were just going to breed the two you have and not get any others, the avairy would be fine, although you wouldn't need that many nest boxes. That being said there are members here that colony breed successfully, so the choice is yours. Your best bet would be to get as much info as you can and then make up your own mind. Good luck and keep us updated. :(Laughing out loud):
  24. (Laughing out loud)... um, first one prob, they'll all pretty cute but
