My Family's First Budgie
Hello and welcome to you all. Sunnie is a sweetie! And yes, it is very normal for her to be quiet as she's probably a little stressed and adjusting to her new surroundings.

How I Serve Treats
Any of the above ideas... Or try a dish with them cut up into different shapes. Then sprinkle seeds over the top. It will take time and you'll just have to keep it up, but they will try it eventually. You could also try eating it in front of them and they 'may' copy you. Mine LOVE corn on the cob or cut off... they also like different coloured stuff, so red, green , yellow etc...

Letting My Fids Out
Yah, how exciting for you. I don't have inside budgies, but find when I have to catch the avairy budgies, a quick net is the go to avoid as much stress as possible. Good luck with their first 'free time' Can't wait to here how it goes!

Crackle's Not Herself...
Mixed news... The Vet is closed due to the Public Holiday today , so tomorrow night after work will be the go now. On a lighter note, Crackle seems to be doing okay and had a little fresh corn this morning. I'm trying not to bother her too much as I don't want to stress her out, but I'll give her the once over today to see how things 'feel', and really are. Here's Crackle below. And here's John (female grey in middle) She's not showing symptons like Crackle but her "chest" is bigger. It's really odd. They both have trouble flying up, but John can get up to the wire... Maybe they're fat??? or with eggs? I know they both have boyfriends and I have seen Crackle and Tweet Tweet do the deed many times. I guess I'll just see what the vets say tomorrow. I'll keep you all updated.

Time : Day & Night
My flock's the same as Libby's. They're outside in the avairy so it's up and down with the sun. They seem to be quite happy to adjust to the seasons as needed. I used to put a tarpoline cover over the front of the avairy in winter but have stopped doing it now. I found it covered only half of it, and they all used to sleep in the uncovered bit so I didn't see the point of it.

Crackle's Not Herself...
Thanks EVERYONE for your concern. It does make me feel better. I feel horrible when they're unwell and can't help feeling guilty. I guess because they don't show their symptons until they're really unwell, I feel like I've let them down... But, if they don't look unwell, what else can you look for? I'm always pretty carefull at looking out for signs of illness (poo, bottoms, fluffed up etc), but in an avairy it can be hard at times. I'm pretty confident I've caught it early, so fingers crossed xxx Thanks everyone again and I'll let you know how we go.

Snuggles Is Home
That's awsome!!! You'll love her. She'll settle down after a little while, being in a new home and all may be stressing her a little. I'd prob get her wings clipped if it was me, but that's a personal choice which only you can make. It would however make her eaiser to tame. Best of luck and remember we are all here for ANY questions you have, however small they may seem to you! Keep us updated on your darling little Snuggles

?s Re Aviary Wire
Great idea... good luck with that... Kaz gave you good advice there, and I washed my avairy down with a vinegar solution before putting the birds in it... the other option was to leave it out in the open for awhile, but I was eager to get my budgies so that wasn't going to happen!!!

Advice Please...
Sorry to hear about your little fella. I have an unwell one also who's off to the vet tomorrow. Perhaps you should do the same? Good Luck and let us know how you go.

Crackle's Not Herself...
Doesnt sound too good and its a good thing you are vigilant and seeing all the signs. If you have some calcivet, maybe give her a drop of that too the beak as it also contains glucose which is a good pick me up. But the vet should be the best next thing to do. The sac of air you describe may mean she has canker or sour crop...a crop filled with air kind of symptom. Hope she sticks with you until treatment begins. All the best Maesie :angel1: Thanks Kaz... me too. I'll give her a drop of Calcivet and hope she sticks with us. I'm sure Tweet Tweet(the BF) will be 'rooting' for her. She didn't seem as fluffed up last time I checked her. I'll be sure to keep you all updated.

Crackle's Not Herself...
Crackle, who's 3 1/2 and is entered in FEB BOM :(Laughing out loud): is not well. I have taken a lead from Kaz (thanks!) and now check Bums before I check anything else, and hers is a little dirty. I tried to catch her (which is usually impossible and results in a blood drawing bite) and I could... not a good sign. I felt her chest(not sure if correct wording???) and it's feels like there is air in there. Usually the others feel um... solid??? but hers feels like there is a sack of air... hard to explain. I sat her on the bottom of the avairy (which has solid sheeting about a metre up from the ground) and she couldn't fly up. I reached down and she got on my hand for me to lift up (this is VERY) out of character! So, I'm really worried. The vet I use is closed today but hopefully open tomorrow (being a public holiday and all) I forgot to mention, her 'boyfriend' has been feeding her since they breed (and failed) month/two months ago. I'm starting to think he knew she was unwell :budgiedance: Any ideas in the mean time???

My New Baby, Coco
You bought him home today yeah?...then it's very normal! He'll be a little stressed until he settles in. You may also notice his poos may be runny and he may not eat and drink a whole lot. Give him time and he should be fine! Just talk to him lots and make him feel welcome :(Laughing out loud): Check out the posts in the "bringing home a new budgie" section (where your first post was)and/or the FAQ's. They should give you some idea of what to expect. Thank you for your help. It would be a big shock for the poor little guy. I will just give him some time. If he doesn't start to become a little more vocal in the next week or so - would that suggest that perhaps my he is a she? Possibly, may take a little longer. If he can hear god's birds (outside birds) and/or a radio, he might start becoming more vocal :(Laughing out loud):
