And who said FEMALES are the complex sex!!!!! :fear Maybe a switch-a-roo is on the cards... "these are the days of our lives..." keep us updated!
  3. Thanks Kaz... can they get to them though, or are they those tube ones... I'd be happy for them to play with them if their tongues don't get stuck on(like on Dumb and Dumber (Laughing out loud))
  4. Oh... so jealous!!!!!! She is adorable!!!!!!!! :fear Good work Kaz, congrats Little one.
  5. Hi and welcome. I'm sure you'll find both the posts and members to be very helpfull... Watch out though, if you're just starting in birds, you WILL get addicted!!! :fear I could think of worse things to be addicted to though... enjoy!
  6. (Laughing out loud) :fear mine are all in the avairy, so I don't mind the mess. If it wasn't so bloody hot I'd be out their watching them... cracks me up !!! Will have to take a photo next time. Have you ever given them iced water?
  7. Oh... what a honey bun!!!! Welcome to Little Ones' family... I'm sure you'll be loved lots! :fear She looks like my little Ringo.
  8. It's so hot outside so I've retreated to the study with a fan (poor avairy birds :fear ) I've been feeding my 'kids' fruit and vegies and seem very keen to get stuck into it. It's very amusing as their faces get covered in it... egg and potato yesterday, banana today :fear . My question is I wonder how much they are actually eating? They drop a fair bit onto the ledge and back in the bowl and seem to be having a great time playing in it, just not sure on the consumption part of it (Laughing out loud). I'm not really worried though, as it does keep them busy and I'm sure something is going down their gobs as they nibble. Do others 'kids' do this also??? reminds me of when my nephew started eating solids... very phunny!!! Also, with this heat wave, can I put ice cubes in a try of water for them to play with? I haven't up to now, as I was worried my tiels would get their tongues stuck on them...ouch!!! Thanks all... keep cool xxx

Hey there... It's also warm here too!!! I have an outside avairy and do a few things to help them out. They have their water bowl, a shallow dish with leaves (native) in it to encourage bathing, I've just added a shade cloth over the avairy, and I spray them with a water spray. I wouldn't worry to much about rust... maybe give the cage a good clean after the hot weather is over. They'll love a light sprinkle of water I'm sure. Just keep them in the shade...How many budgies do you have again? can they be brought inside? in another cage? I guess you've just got to find a happy medium between not creating extra stress and providing relief where possible. Good Luck :hap:
  10. The parents are divine, and eve is adorable!!! I'm not good with colours etc so I'll leave it to the experts. Can't wait to see how the little ones turn out though!

So... 33 c today and hotter tomorrow. Dad and I put up a shade sail tonite. I'm not real happy with it, but the basic idea is there. I'll be interested to see how it goes tomorrow and then I'll be able to see what needs to happen. Will post pics when I'm happy. I cut my knee open a little (not real bad but it stung when I put betadine on it :fear I'm such a woose!!!) I also put a slight dint in the shed roof (next to the avairy), got attacked by a million ants (yes, I counted (Laughing out loud)) and got a very dirty a***. :hap: We also managed not to swear too much :hap:
  12. We had a warm(not ure 40's but in the 30's) today, and after a few tries, ernie let me spray him with the water bottle. He had his wings raised right up and it was very cute... although he did nearly loose his balance a few times :bluebudgie: I bet they'd like your shower too. I'll bring my 'kids' over for a 'swim' someday...
  13. :bluebudgie: (Laughing out loud)... sounds like bert. (Although I did catch him talking to the spoons the other day.) He's either a bit of a wuss or a little slow. He waits for ernie to make sure whateva is new is not going to eat him, hurt him, scare him or touch him, and then he joins in the fun. Ernie is like his little road tester... if ernie says it's okay, then it is!!!!
  14. Hi Peter and friend and welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find some great advice here. I guess it's really up to you if you want to get him a mate. Has he always been a lone budgie? If so, you could keep him that way. If you wanted to get him a mate, I would prob go an older/younger male or an older female. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he's to old to mate, so hopefully you weren't looking to do that. If you do get him a friend, don't forget to quarintine him/her. A young 'brother' as such may give new life to an old fella (Laughing out loud). As to the cage, go for it. I'm sure he'll appreciate the extra room. Perhaps go for the new cage first before the new friend? If your worried about change, mayb set it up near him for awhile, then move him over. If he is tame, you could allow him to explore it before the big shift. You could even keep the same toys/food dishes etc... so he has something familar. Hope this helped a little. Ask away if you need any more info...

Some progress of a different kind. When my budgies were divided for breeding, Ringo had some issues. She became egg bound twice, but with some tender loving care and a lot of panic, I managed to pull her through. (warm water, massage etc... Thanks to this forum and old posts) She also got used to me and sat on my finger and shoulder. Now that Bert and Ernie have arrived and all breeding is over, the budgies are back together. Now all my budgies love millet (who doesn't) but will only eat it when I leave it for them... Ringo on the other hand is a little more game. I usually hold it near her to eat a little, then rest it on my shoulder. Sometimes it takes longer than others, but I can usually get her to get onto my shoulder or arm to get to the millet. So sweet. The only down side is I get a bra full of seed husks as they slide off down ny chest I guess I'm willing to trade husky ***** for a little one on one time with Ringo... (Laughing out loud)
  16. Relax... Relax... Relax... If it's going to happen it will happen. They may even be able to pick up on your nerves. The picture you posted awhile back looked good. Just leave them to it and see what happens. Keep up their fresh greens etc... and give them some space. Being first timers, they may just need time I know how you feel though, I was like that when I first started... you just want it to happen... the mating, the eggs, the babies etc... you'll be exhausted when it's over (Laughing out loud). maesie xxx
  17. So gross. We don't have them around home, but I did buy some for my lizards once. They were the grosses things ever. I've handled some creepy crawlies before, but these took the cake They were climbing up the side of the container etc and they smelt so bad when crunched... yuk yuk yuk yuk
  18. Hi Kel, I have been following your post with interest. Thats so great!!!!! I think sometimes it just takes them a little time to figure out what they're meant to be doing with their little babies (Laughing out loud). Good luck and keep us updated. Not sure if others have told you, but to download pics, go to photobucket website, sign in (it's free) and upload your pics, remember to change the size and then copy and paste it into your post. If you get stuck, let us know. maesie xxx

Although it seems I'm living in the cold state at the moment, I'm thinking of putting up a shade sail over my avairy. It used to get some shad from a Eucalyptus tree next door, but it was removed because it was going to fall down. Although it hasn't been to hot as yet, I've noticed how hot the roof and walls are getting. The avairy already has two roofs... metal one and then a tilted laserlight one. Doesn't seem to make much difference though. Does anyone else use shade sails? Any advice? The avairy is right next to a storage shed and a tree, so I might have to use them to connect it up?!?! mmm still trying to figure that bit out...
