  1. What a great idea! My budgies would love it Sounds like it has been really hot over there. Many WA members have commented on it... Cold over here in VIC. Today is the warmest it's been in while... kinda nice in the sun 23 C. I don't like it really hot, but come on!!!!! It's summer. Maesie xxx
  2. Oh, poor little thing ... You could try some sort of collar, to stop her getting to it. Not 100% sure how you do it though, perhaps cardboard... I think others have used them in the past, maybe do a search? It may not last for long, but may keep her preoccupied for a little while. Let us know how you go... Maybe try bathing it in warm water??? not sure if this may agrivate whatever it is more though. Good luck to you both and let us know how you go. maesie xxx
  3. So cute!!! We used to have a green budgie called Rodger. He had like 50 words he knew... Rodger Dodger, aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi, swervin mervin (aka merv hughes) just to name a few. The funniest thing by far he ever did was Mum bent down at the fridge, and he wolf whistled and said hello sexy!!!!! :hap: :hap:

This forum is great and so much info... go through the FAQ's and old posts. That's how I learnt a lot when I joined. Also remember, no question is a stupid one... we were all a newbie once! 9. Oh Thanks guys xxx Yeah Bec Sta, feel free to steal away (Laughing out loud). They havn't found the spoon one yet, but I have it near the side of the avairy, so it should get some sun(and shine) and I'm 100% sure ernie will have to check it out!... Can't wait to check them in the morning and see what's left
  10. So sorry about Zeus Dave, hope he picks up. I'll be thinking of you both. Maesie xxx
  11. I've finished work now for two weeks so got started on making some toys for the budgies and tiels. Here are heaps of photos of the toys and Bert & Ernie playing with them. The budgie tend not to be too interested, but the teils took 3 mins. They couldn't help themselves (Laughing out loud) Looks like it's a hit! There are two more toys in their avairy (which I've renamed Sesame Street (Laughing out loud)) but they havn't found them yet... Maesie xxx
  12. Sorry to hear about little Tigger. I would do one of two things. I would personally take her to a vet. Birds are realy good at hiding their illnesses, so for you you to notice she can't be too good. Are you sure she's eating and drinking... try and feel her keel (breast bone) if it's really prominant, chances are she's not eating as well. Also check her bottom and smell it. Dirty bottoms is another sing of illness. Is she still raising her chicks? Your second option, if you cant get her to help asap, would be to bring her inside as you did when you first got her. Keep her warm and watch her closely. Good luck and keep us updated! maesie xxx
  13. Oh Kaz... so sorry. I'm sure your luck is bound to pick up! Keep you chin up. We're all here for you here... xxx

Nicey!!! Sounds fantastic. Go Grandpa Have you got any sketches? I'd love to see them. I'm excited for you. If your budgies are used to having a bit of outside time already, I'm sure they'll be fine. I guess if you're a little worred when it comes down to d day, you could let them spend the days in there and bring them in for the nights (if you can catch them without stressing them). I prob wouldn't bother, but if it makes you worry less, go for it. They'll love the freedom though!!! It's also fun to poke little treats throughout the avairy for them to find as they check out their new 'pad'

Oh, how exciting!!! I have an outdoor avairy, so I'll do my best to pass on what I know/have learnt etc... Definately concrete. My floor is pavers on soil, and is kinda hard to keep clean. Concrete would be eaisier to keep clean, but not sure about risks etc... As to your indoor budgies going outdoors, I guess it depends on the budgies. I would prob give them some outside time in their cages, just to get them used to it. I'm sure they'll be okay though. I have soft lighting on my avairy, to help my new tiels settle in. Mite be an idea too. I'd also make sure when you put them in, do it in the morn, so they have all day to sus it out and then be okay for the night. Make sure you have a safety door... so a door which leads into a small section, then another door into the avairy. This means the budgies can't get out when you open the door as you have two. I learnt the hard way! I think some people have those plastic strips hanging over the one door if the don't have a safety one... apparently this will stop MOST birds from flying through them. I'm not sure where you are building your avairy, but mine used to be under a big Gum tree. This was great as it provided shade in summer and warmth in winter. This has now been removed and the avairy gets really hot. I'm thinking of putting up a shade sail. Possibly consider this when building. Um... if you buy a ready made metal avairy or avairy panels... make sure you leave it up in the elements to weather before putting the birds in, or if you can't wait, like I couldn't, you can wash it down with a vinegar solution. This makes it safe for your birds. Anything else, let me know... I'm sure others will have more ideas to. Can't wait to see the pics as it gets built and when its finished... yay
  17. $40??? Just for spoons? I like the sound of the bead spacer. I will try that when I finially get mine made. I have all the supplies for this and more toys, but have been so busy it will have to wait...

  21. Oh Kaz, so sorry for your loss. ((((((((hugs)))))))) xx
  22. Oh, what a sweetie. Sounds like she is a real snuggle pot too. Luna suits her. I think I need a couple of cleavage budgies... then I could throw away all of those expensive push up bra's.
  23. Thanks all. Kaz, I'll have to watch what I say in front of my niece and nephew... and I was worried about the f word!!! I wonder if s t r o l l e r would be okay (Laughing out loud) I never thought of the spoon reflection thing. Thanks elly. Will have to keep an eye on them.
  24. Sorry you are having this issue... It's a bit like humans, you can make them pair up. Although youv'e had them together for a long time, they may just see each other as best mates, and nothing more. Have you seen them mate? Do they behave like they love each other? Even though your hen is in mating condition, you male may not be. I'm not sure if they come into condition at the same time/age. Someone else may be able to help you with this. I haven't really got any solutions for you but I'm sure someone else will. Maybe try next season? Maybe you'll need to pair them up with others? Sorry I can't be more help. Best of luck... let us know how you go If they are the birds in your sig. they are so sweet and I'm sure will produce beautifull babies (if THEY want to)
  25. Thanks all! Yeah, I was kinda weary of hand knives and forks in the avairy... I'd hate for the tiels to have a fight... Bert holding the fork... 'give me back that sprig of millet' Ernie holdings the knife... ' no way, it's mine' (Laughing out loud) I'll be raiding the cutlery draw in the morning. I thought stainless steel was safe.
