Faith And Splodge
Very cute babies there!!! Isn't it great when the parents raise their babies so well. I hope all goes well when they venture out of the nest box and into the 'unknown' :fear

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
Well... still nothing to report. Not even peeping :fear I did however candle them to make sure they had something in them... There is a very visable line between the air sack and 'darkness' the inside didn't really move around much when I moved it, and the eggs are really 'white'. I also think I may have seen a 'foot' or something move inside one... but I could be just making it up . Really hoping I have some exciting news to report soon!!! Do the eggs sound okay???

Arkady The Fat
OMG he's huge! (Laughing out loud). Biggest budgie I've ever seen. Poor bugger! Once his wing heals up he'll be right. It will fall off him and you'll have to enter him into the biggest looser show (Laughing out loud)

Yes, I Am Skydiving!
Hi all, I am only new to this forum but am finding it very addictive (Laughing out loud). I have been keeping budgies for many years now, and bredding for the past three. I currently have 6 budies, 6 eggs (to different mums), two lizards and a cat. I'm also keen to expand my flock to include a pair or two pairs of cockateils... So, that's a bit about me. The photo below was taken last year. I went through a whole 'Just do it' stage, did many things I've never down before, but I must admit, skydiving was the 'studpidest' one (Laughing out loud) . Was pretty amazing, although I did nearly vomit all over my tandem partner... very classy, I know. Nice to meet you all, and thanks for all your help thus far...

Miss Ernie Is A Month Old(er)
Hi Cam Love the name!!!! I'm thinking of getting some Cockateils soon, and wanted to call them Bert & Ernie, but didn't know how to get around the name thing... can't seem to think of good girl's names I like. If you don't mind, I think I'll go with your idea... Bert and (miss) ernie ... Like it! She sounds like a sweety.

Nest Box Material Y/n?
Love to know the results from both of you as it sounds good to me too. Me too, that Oaten Chaff sound good. I ended up getting wood shaving. I put a small amount in the two nest boxes. They both watched me put it in, then poked their head through the hole, fluffed their bums and got in. When I checked later they had made a little hole down to the wood where they were sitting on their eggs. Today I added some more shaving, to provide extra comfort ... but, so far so good. None of them threw anything out. I must admit, I am surprised. I thought they'd refuse to go back in!!! Bless them. Thanks all

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
Thanks everyone for your responses... and am STILL waiting!!!! I've figured out it's about 19 days today since the second of 5 eggs were laid. One was infertile and removed... I'm baseing my calculations on the fact that the infirtile one was the first one. I checked on Mum and eggs this arvo, and I reakin I saw a small crack!?!? However It may have just been poo or something , as I prob just hoping it was a crack! Will let you know when/if any bubs arrive.

How Many Can I Fit?
Thanks for that. I didn't realise it could fit that many!!! So the six I currently have would be thinking they are living it up at the Hilton!!! Do you know any good sites for info on Cockateils? I want to read up on them. I'll also be waiting for my budgies to stop breeding before I make any mega changes!!! Also, Would you get 'pairs' of cockateils? or one sex? Thanks again Kaz

How Many Can I Fit?
Hi all, All this reading about birds has made me want to get more . My current avairy is two joined together to make an 'L' shape. Each avairy is 1.5 (width) X 0.75 (depth) and 1.8 (height)... so total length is 3m. Plus safety door on the end. How many budgies can I keep in an avairy of this size. Currently I am breeding so it is divided up for the breeding pairs, but if I do not wish to breed in the future, can I just not provide breeding boxes or do I need to separate males and females??? What happens if they start laying??? I'm also keen to get some cockateils... I've been reading that they should be kept separete from budgies... if this was the case, I would devide the above avairy in half. How many of each could I keep in 1.5x0.75x1.8. I don't have the money or the space to extend, so any ideas would be awsome... best not to get to excited if it's not feasable Thanks all

What Will They Be?
Thanks for that. Yeah, 100% sure of eggs parents, and mum's parents. Don't know of dad's parents at all!!! Can't wait to see the results. All my other budgies are blue or grey, so really hoping for some greenies cheers

Ant Problem
Hi Little one, I have the exact same problem. Sooooooooooooooooooo annoying!!!! Fresh food and water get covered in ants and nothing seems to work. Someone suggested I got was to use Talcum Powder... sprinkled around the outside of the avairy. I tried that, but then it rained to I'll be trying again and let you know. Are they only comming up from inside, or from outside as well? If comming from outside, you could try and follow where they are originating from and give them a good spray/poison. Inside the avairy is a different thing. Try making their holes really big, then maybe fill with vinegar??? or something else??? then fill in back in really tighly. Don't know if that will work though??? I'll let you know if I come up with anything. I try not to hang/place fruit etc... near their fav resting spots, perhaps a separate food area. That way the ants 'may' keep to the one area. I don't think the ants can hurt the birds if they eat them. They're prob more annoying to us than anything else!!!

Nest Box Material Y/n?
As you all know, my budgies are breeding at the moment. I have breed budgies before, and they have never had anything in their nest boxes as they only remove it. In previous years I have just put a layer of newspaper/bird sand papaer (not sure thats what you call it?!) when the babies have hatched as it makes it eaiser to clean... they poo alot for little goobers :(Laughing out loud): . One couple's eggs are due anyday now. I'm hesitant to add anything now as I'm worried she'll desert her eggs. I've noticed many of you have nesting material, and am therefor unsure of what to do. Any info would be awsome.

What Will They Be?
I posted this elsewhere when discussing breeding, but figure this is the best spot for it now. Pics below are of my mum, dad and mum's parents. Any idea on colours??? Green is dominant yeah??? Reduced: 95% of original size [ 320 x 240 ] - Click to view full image This is the best shot I could get of Mum (crackle), she doesn't come out of the nest box much and was a little scared of my camera. Reduced: 95% of original size [ 320 x 240 ] - Click to view full image This is Dad(Tweet Tweet) Reduced: 95% of original size [ 320 x 240 ] - Click to view full image The two on the left are Crackle's mum and dad. I'm not sure about Tweet Tweets parents as I found him a few months ago. The eggs are due any day now? Just wondering what I'll possibly get. SOOOOOOOO hard to wait!!!

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
okay... think I'm sort of starting to understand it... (Laughing out loud). As Green is dominant over grey, does that mean they'll all be green? Or will it depend on the sex? Sorry if I'm repeating myself

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
Oh, thanks. I know this is not the topic for this, but does that mean the girls will be like him? I'm not good with all the genetics etc... What about the boys?

Waiting, Waiting, Waiting...
Hi all, My first breeding pair for the year were expecting yesterday. I'm like a nervous mother!!! My other two pairs eggs were all infertile and they haven't laid a second clutch as yet. These expectant parents are also first timers. All my budgies are blue and grey, so the Mum 'Crackle' is grey, but her partner was found and is green, so I'm looking forward at the likelyhood of getting more greenies... Her eggs look different to those of the other hens... they're quite white and when I candled them at the begining they looked promising! It's so hard to wait!!!!!!!!! I'm still just checking twice daily as I don't want to stress her, but am spending quite a lot of time watching and listening from afar . Crackle when she was younger (Is now about 2) And her manly man Tweet Tweet So... here's hoping to some new arrivals. Will keep you posted. By the way, she has 4 :nest: 's

Budgies Are Very Effecient....
Sorry to hear that. I guess the other hens knew there was something not quite right with him/her. At least you did all you could to give it every possible shot at life. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
