I use them and they work well for me. Mine hang also. Make sure the inner rod is not to tight. I'm not sure it wouldn't be flowing though. Mine dig into it and go through their seed no worries. They actually prefer these feeders over normal dishes. If your birds don't get where the fresh seed comes from, then it wont work as they're relying on you doing it, which defeats the point. Hope you can sort the problem out.

I have cockatiels in with my budgies, but they all live in a large aviary. I would never house them in a cage together. I agree with the others and go for a male budgie. If you get a young one, taming will be eaiser too. Going handraised is a great idea too. Post in the wanted section and hopefully someone can help you out.
  3. Hugs xoxo Hope he's okay and gets home soon :laughter:

Sounds like fun... but my only concern would be if it weaken the wire over time, causing damage and breakage?

Cute Kaz... I've always wanted a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.
  6. Wouldn't this be breaking quaratine... I'd never want to expose my healthy birds to anything a pet shop may have hanging around them and their birds.

Thanks so much for the update. I'm glad he's doing okay and I hope you get some answers soon.

I personally wouldn't. I agree with Kaz on the splintering. I use cd's to keep wild birds away from my avairy- the light shines off them and scares them. Check out our toy thread in setting up a cage/avairy for ideas if you like. If you're trying to use up old cd's on something, they make great coasters

She is a little stressed by her " new health condition " but she is now in a cage of her own and has to learn to find her way around to her food and water. The cage is just one I was given....not too small and not too large considering her impairment. She is doing a lot of cocking her head and listening. She'll be a new woman in no time, you'll never know she can't see
  10. okay... yeah, makes sense. Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it. Good stuff.
  11. By store use only, do you mean for the staff, or to be handed out to customers??? If they will be for staff only, ignore my comments If you mean they are to be given out to customers, please read below... I understand your reasoning, I just wonder who will have to answer all these questions, and if they can't answer them, what then? I suppose you could then direct them to the website for further information. I just know how busy everybody is in their daily lives with work etc...
  12. haha... no worries. When you write something yourself, you often read what you want to hear and not what you've written... I know I do it all the time

yes the seeds leaves and bark are toxic but the actual fruit itself is safe. Agree!!! so that doesn't mean anyone should stop feeding them the apple itself How's he doing today??? Hope much better!
  14. Looking good... Some suggestions if I may...You refer to the different sexes as hens and males. I think it would be best to keep the names the same, so 'females and males', or 'hens and cocks', not mix them up. Maybe it's just me being picky, but it makes more sense and would be eaiser for those who are learning. Also, refering people to an email address... are we prepared for the emails we may get and who will be the one to answer them all. Possibly refer them to this forum so we can all help them... instead of one person and their email. Just my suggestions... good work though!

I have a blind pet rat, and she's the most sweet natured of all my rats. You'll notice her other senses to be very fine tuned, and they do become very dependant on you. That being said, they get around like they don't have any disability at all. I look forward to following her journey.

The knot in the log is barely half inch deep Luttle Budgie said she will take the blind girl. I will put photos up of her shortly. Excellent on both accounts I'll get Lucia to send you hen a braille mail on how to make the most of a life without sight!

Euthenasia... nooooooo! I hope you find a home for her, or take up Little budgies offer. Many a blind animals has lived a long and happy life! A question about that lovely log in your avairy. Will you do anything to stop the knot in the log becoming a nestbox? Or is it too small?
  18. maesie replied to Megan M's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
I have read through your whole topic, and see you had your nest box in with other adults. I'm glad you were able to remove it without loosing any chicks. We have to be so careful moving things around as they are such precious creatures. Where your nest box is situation on the floor of your new cage will make it hard to open and check the chicks. Having it up high would be better, but in your case, can you move it over to the other side, so to check it you only have to lift the door and NOT move it too. If you decide to breed next time around, I'd suggest reading up on our breeding topics and set up's. That way you'll be prepared and have a better set up. I personally always had nesting material in my nest boxes too, espcially once chicks started to hatch, as they poo sooooo much! Having wood shavings made cleaning much easier for me. I also had a sheet of folded newspaper under the shavings, so daily I could pull it out, shavings and all and replace. I'm not good with types and colors, but it looks like you'll get some pretty chicks. Good luck.

Awww... hugs honey xoxo. Considering his ill health of late, maybe it's all connected and something is still not right with him. I'd be thinking this more so than he's eaten something funny. I wouldn't be reducing his grass/veggies/fruit etc... keep up what ever he feels like eating. I know after I've been sick it takes awhile to get back to 100% health, and poor Nibbles has been through his fair share. I hope he picks up some more and you get him to a vet when they open.

There is a link in my signature to tell you how to post photos.
  22. Some vets have limited opening hours. I'd find one of those instead of guessing with treatment... That's what I'd personally do. Good luck.

We can not advice how to put down a bird at home. You'll need to get a vet to do it. I know it's Good Friday, and most places are shut, but call a few local vets and see how you go. If you choose not to do this, I'd bring her inside in a small cage, clean her up and put a lamp over the cage to keep her warm. Photos of her will help us advice short term care for her too. Follow the links in my signature if you need.
  24. Thanks for being not only a member who comes on here to ask questions, but one who also bothers to listen and implement our suggestions. Great Job!!! One other suggestion, I'd get shorter perches and have them running from front to back, not long ways. This will encourage them to fly back and forth... also encouraging breeding behaviour.

I get your point and well when pop biult them i wasnt planning on breeding and now the 2 built in avairys are taking up all the space Blood shed does not always mean death. I colony bred before I knew better, and had blood shed, but no deaths. I was lucky enough to step in before anyone was killed, and their injuries were fixable. I now have a number of hens missing the ends off their toes from nest box battles. I hope for your birds sake nothing goes wrong.
