  1. You are getting positive comments... but also warnings as we've all read the problems you've had in the past and see you choose not to listen. We are not being mean, just hoping you would have leanrt from past blood shed. This is a public forum, and when you post a topic you will get both the negatives and the positives... that's just the way things work.
  2. Can you guarantee this??? Please be careful about giving such advice. Awww, I'm so sorry he got out. I've lost one from my avairy before I added a safety door. He never came back either. Don't loose hope. Leave a familar cage out with seed so he can return to it, and let everyone around you know so they can keep a look out. Check out our FAQ's for more tips as well. Good luck and I really hope he comes back.
  3. I know some people can't use those function GB, but more often than not, it's members being lazy and expecting us to spoon feed them info (General comment here, not specific) It also doesn't help when we all give members info and they ignore the whole lot anyway! If every question asked here required lists of info to be repeated over and over again, we'd all get sick of the same topics... The FAQ's are brilliant, and the search function is too, simply type in a topic (4 letters or more) and press go. Answering questions once a member has actually made an effort to find the info doesn't bother me, but when I know that they havn't made a single effort, it bothers me... but... again... not specific to any member inparticular...
  4. Agree, times 1000000000000000000000000. Well said Kaz . For some reason this post has come up on my Screen all blurred and I cannot read it , Can admin please explain?? Like ya Avatar Mae's What happened to leaving things in the past? Time to move on and build one of those bridges Matt, and remember your part in all of it too... not so mister innocent. ... and thanks, my avatar is pretty cool if I don't say so myself
  5. Please use the search function and the FAQ's Clancy. They are there for a reason.
  6. Agree, times 1000000000000000000000000. Well said Kaz .
  7. Do a google search for baby/pet names... you'll find thousands of sites and names.
  8. I'd go for a male... They talk/mimick sounds more, they don't bite as much, like females do, and if you get a male, you wont have to worry about egg laying too, which some female do even when they don't have a partner.
  9. How fun!!! Send a messge/pm to Chrysocome. She's our resident vet and has had many experiences in many different places. She doesn't venture here often, but I'm sure she'll reply when she can. As to our winter... it's always cold and sometimes wet. Depending on where in Australia you end up.... determines how cold and wet it will be.
  10. I was in two minds about it too... but technically it's no longer a 'filthy, disgusting, dirty mouse' as you put it. More so a skelton of a former living being (and the beginning of a funky piece of artwork for my house) Think outside the square JB... it makes everything okay!!!
  11. Weird!!! (your computer, not you) Maybe you need to refresh/clear your browser... BUT agree, we can still read what you write.
  12. Thanks GB... there's not a whole lot of fur on it. There is some loose stuff which I've been able to blow/pull off. The only place where there is actual fur is the heal of one foot, and the end of the tail. Here are some photos of the skeleton. I also have the bottom jaw, but it's hard to see in the group shot and the photo with the whole skull didn't turn out clear enough.
  13. Nope... you're not alone Thanks for that quick reply. Your horse hoof paper weight sounds fab!!! I'm guessing most of the other bones were taken away by ants as we have them in the millions out the back too. I'll scoop up the soil from where the mouse was laying and see what I find. It was bizare as it's skeleton was just laying there on its side, and the fur was surrouding it... like it had fallen off I found info online that says to soak it in water in a warm spot, periodically replace water as needed... when it runs clear, soak the bones in regular strength hydrogen peroxide (to whiten and sterilise bones). What are your thoughts on this process?
  14. I love skeletons, and have three pretend human ones I call Tom, **** and Harry sitting in my lounge room in the 'see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' pose... BUT... I digress. My workplace back onto paddocks/empty land (aside from some trees and weeds). Recently there was some ground disturbing works and we had massive wild mouse problems. This has since eased, but one of my fellow works came apon a very well preserved mouse skelton in our back yard area. I've googled some pictures, and it appears I'm missing most of the arm bones and ribs but have most of the others... you can see it's teath and feet, and it's vetebrae and so tiny... I'll head outside at work tomorrow and see if I can find any more, but the backyard it covered in stones, so it will be hard. I'm happy to post photos if anyone wants. My main question is how to clean them??? They smell a little and their is quite a bit of hair still on them, particulaly the leg bones. They are so fragile, I don't want to handle them too much. From my school biology days, I remember that you can soak them in something that will eat away at everything but the bones. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
  15. When you reply to a post, scroll down in the reply screen to BELOW the quote and then click so you see the flashing cursor... I usually then press return a few times and start typing.
  16. This and the other 'pink' budgie topics remind me of the movie 'Groundhog Day'

How old is he and is he moulting?
  18. To be blunt... this cage is horrible and shouldn't house a single budgie, let alone a breeding pair. It's more of a canary cage. It allows no room for flying as budgies need to fly across a cage, not up and down. Check out this post: Cages wrong/right for some great general cage information.
  19. My sister is a hairdresser, and one of her clients told her about this site. It's based in the UK, and sells books at a very reasonable price. The postage world wide is also free. Her client has used them many times and has had no problems. The Book Depository Enjoy book worms out there
  20. maesie replied to Houman's topic in Cage Discussion
I have used a small bird cage before, and for my bigger birds, I've used a cat carrier (not used for cats obviously). Both work well for me.
  21. Vetafarm is great for stuff like that, but I also often find their products in 'some' petshops. Another online supplier I use for my other pets is Pets Megastore. They also stock vetafarm products. Maybe check their prices and compare. I live near them so I can save on postage too. You can get them elsewhere too, just make sure you go for the proper brands and not the cheap pet shop stuff. Vets are good too, but sometimes charge more. ~~ as an example, I purchased a probiotic the other day, and it was $11.50 25g and $18.50 90g from Pets Megastore, or $14.20 and $18.25 from Vetafarm. I got the smaller one, and saved a few dollars. Postage wise... Petsmegastore is $6.50 in AUS (but now $4.95 as a special) I don't think the weight of the product comes into in... unless you got something massive. Maybe check regarding this. Vetafarm is 0-500g $5.50 500g-1Kg $11.00 1Kg-40Kg weight based and can be calculated at checkout before you confirm your order. Location wise, Pets Megastore is in Geelong, which for those of you who don't know, is near Melbourne, whereas Vetafarm is in Wagga Wagga, NSW. This will obviously influence postage times if you need something quickly.
  22. So she's a ladies man Kaz... but a cute one at that!!!
  23. You know how these things are KAZ...."it all comes out in the wash"  Yeah... maybe a stray red calcium perch was washed in with the albino budgies...
  24. A big 'finally got here' welcome to you and your flock I look forward to getting to know you all and seeing your birds. I recommend checking out our welcome centre in our FAQ's for tips on how to get started. The FAQ's have some awesome info, as does the search funtion. Welcome aboard again, and I hope you settle in and feel at home
  25. I have not acchieved the level where anyone would want to hear what I have to say I disagree... You may not be at the level of some of the others, but I'm guessing many BBC member would love the hear your storey. I also think those who are starting out in showing budgies would be able to relate to your journey more so too. I look at it this way... Beginning any task or hobby you start at the bottom of the ladder, those who excell at it and have years of experiance would be at or near the top, and Kaz, you may be in the middle or higher... Now, If I was looking at starting to breed show budgies, I'd read and look into all the top of the ladder breeders, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, I'm guessing I'd find it hard to follow in their footsteps at the start. Whereas, if I could focus on your experience and others Kaz, getting into the hobby might not seem so dauntings. Aiming high is great, but can sometimes make the end result seem impossible. I'd also like to add I'm not into show breeding, but have been reading all of the interviews and find them fasinating. Great work Kaz and thanks to all who are helping us out
