Restoring Some Furnature
Thanks all. All the kids and grandkids got to pick stuff, and most of the things I picked no one understood why I'd want that 'rubbish', so there were no issues with getting it. My Older sister got one of grandpa's hats which sits on a hook on the wall and the clock we remember listening to when we were there. My younger sister go some mugs we always used for milo and coffee, and a biscuit maker my Granny used to use to make forcer biscuits... We all got tea cups, some crystal and other bits and pieces. I'll definately post some photos when it's in. I'm thinking the weekend so stay turned. I can't wait to get it in and organised.

Restoring Some Furnature
Yeah, after sanding lightly, I realised that the stains and old paint won't be coming off any time soon, and considering its age, I'd prob do more damage. So, I stuck with the light sand, re-atached the roof panels and have oiled it all. I wanted to keep it as original as possible, so I'm not fussed. Although the oil is natural, it STINKS!!!! I'm shocking with strong smells as I always get headaches. It's currently at work and we put it outside during the day, but this doesn't seem to be enough... so this week I'm moving it to Mum and Dad's patio. This way is will get a good airing out. I really want to get in home, but no point if it needs to be removed again... Here are some photos of what I'll be displaying in it. They might not seem like much, but like the Safe, they all contain memories for me. Some random bottles: Some pots and preserve jars: Some of my Grandpa's things, including the farm boots he was wearing before he passed. And some of my Grandma's things, including the slippers she was also wearing before she passed.

Question About A Plant.
I'm not a fan of pine, as it often has sticky stuff on the leaves... but not sure of it's safety. I'd say no to be on the safe side. Do you have access to Eucalyptus/Gum trees??? Their leaves also smell great. Maybe you could make your own with a metal coat hanger, Gum leaves/flower/nuts and maybe some safe herbs... I'm sure they'd love it too. You could also poke some millet in there too!

Good Morning Australia!
Good Morning. It's now mid morning here and I actually was able to sleep in till 10am this moring, as opposed to 5.30 yesterday (sat morning). We're looking at 27 C here today. I'm doing a few jobs aroung the house and then am off to bunnings to get some soil and pots for some indoor plants I have just bought. I'm also dropping in on my sister/brother in law and their kids for a cuppa and a play. Looks like it will be a nice and relaxing one.

Have You Ever Lost Your Car Keys
I do ALL the time, but it's all my keys, including house. I always get myself into a state, panic and end up in a lather of sweat. I have now got a bowl that I try and put them in as soon as I get home... hopefully it will help. I hope you find them... don't forget to look in your pockets.

How Many Budgie Friends Can I Fit In Here?
Based on your measurements, I would not keep anything in there. As Kaz said, needs to be wider rather than taller, and the length of 35cm is not enough.

Autopsy

Safe For Toys?
okay... beads/buttons are awesome!!! The other stuff looks cool too, but I'd want to know what they were made of first. Is there a website you could look up. I often buy things on 'My Parrot Shop' and they have things very similar to your first photo... but they make things for birds... the sticks are just rolled paper and the colouring is safe food die. The more I look at them, they appear exactly the same... but without knowing for sure, I personally wouldn't. Not worth the risk in my opinion. I'd be wary of the bells too, unless you can be sure of what they are made of.

One More Question.
This is very common behaviour. I had two females do it too. Great work on the quarantine... very important. Back to the behaviour... they can also mount each other, which obviously does nothing... lol... I personally wouldn't worry. Is it just one feeding the other or are they both having a go. If it's only one, check the receiver isn't sick... as they can help feed the unwell. ALSO>>> never apoligise for too many questions. The only way to learn is to ask. I don't know about the others, but I'd assume we'd all prefer plenty of questions than for you to come on here saying 'this and that has happened... help' when the situation could have been helped by a simple question. Have you checked out out FAQ's??? They don't cover everything, but have plenty of info... Button top right of screen. The search function is also handy, same spot. But... if in doubt, ask. You often find others have a similar issue but don't want to ask... so we all win!

Cockatoo Hit By A Car
It is unfortunate, but very common. being a wild bird it's also not as simple as patch it up and give it to someone as a pet... doesn't work like that. I would also depend on the vet. My vet would assess and let me know before anything was done and would also be happy to liase with the shelter if need be. We have a wonderful shelter down here where I would take any injured wildlife... Good on You for trying though.

Introducing My New Budgie In The House
So great to hear. I see he has a mirror. It's often recommended not to have mirror's, as they bond with the budgie in the mirror instead of you. Doesn't always happen but can. I find when I loose a pet, I often get another quite soon after. I find it helps me to greive. I used to worry people thought I was replacing them, but people greive differently... and that is how I did. We can never replace those we lose, they know it and you do too... so I say do what you need to. xx

Cool Budgie Stuff
Zazzle is great. I have used them before. Just remember if you're from Australia to remember to order from the Aussie site. You can also design your own stuff with your own photos etc... Great service for me :-)

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
I used to use wood shavings. Newpaper won't gave the same amount of support. My silly hen never used the concave and her eggs went all over the place. I continued to re-fill with wood shavings and after she decided to leave them in there... all was well. It's more important for when they start hatching too, to avoid splayed legs etc... If you don't have any now, don't stress, but I'd get some in the coming days

Ratzy's Breeding Journal
Congrats!!! I really hope she doesn't pick up on your angst though... like most animals, they can pick up when we are stressed I know it's really, really exciting, but I learnt the hard way some years ago with multiple DIS. Chill out, sit back and let nature take its course... Oh, and I'd get some more nesting material too. It will help keep the eggs from moving around and will be needed when they begin to hatch.

Restoring Some Furnature
Yeah... it rocks I have been very careful with the wire brush and have only used it lightly and in sections. As you said, it is very brittle and I don't want it to fall apart. Thanks RIPbudgie!

Restoring Some Furnature
Yeah, sorry. Check the underside of the top panels. If good, you can prise them off and turn over and then have a better surface to sand and work with. The other side are the same. I have removed them already for ease of access.
-
Restoring Some Furnature
Yeah, sorry. The top may have been replaced at some stage, as a metal tray with ice used to be on top. So they are probably not original anyway.

Restoring Some Furnature
They'll be great Kaz. I have done a bit of work on the meat safe. I started sanding it and soon realised that most of the paint and stains on it would require a decent amount of hard work, even with the machines of today. I don't want to sand it back too much, as I want to keep it as it is. So, I have only lightly sanded it. After this I cleaned it all up and started oiling it. It's looking good this far. I do have a delima though. The roof panels below, were painted at some stage, and this will not come off. I have tried sanding but the panels themselves are falling apart, so I don't want to do too much. My options are to re-attach and just oil over the top of the wood and paint, or paint them, I'm thinking black, and then attach. Due to the height of it, you won't really see it, it's just a matter of choice... mmm. If I do paint them, I'm not fussed about changing it too much, as again, they wont be in your face, and the black will blend in anyway.

My New Budgie
Cute! Did you take them up on the clipping and if so, did they do both wings? It's hard to see from those photos.
