  1. Thanks Maesie. I've had it for 24 hours and I'm attached. So upset I bet... I would be the same, but you just need to remember there is only so much us humans can do, and the rest is up to them. Sending happy and healthy vibes your chicks way.
  2. Awww . Good luck with it all. I hope the vet visit goes well and I agree with Renee, get her to show you how to crop feed. That way you can get a decent feed into the chick. Also remember that you'll have to keep it warm too. Also remember, that if it doesn't make it, it is NOT your fault. Even if it was in the hands of an experienced breeder, it doesn't always matter. You don't know what has happened to it in the past, so what ever you can do for it, is more than it would have if it wasn't found. Good luck again and please keep us updated.
  3. This would make an AWESOME canvas print!!!

Man... you don't ask for much do you. Working with one animal is hard enough... that 13 I have to work with!!! But, alas... I will see what I can do!

It's exciting isn't it... your time and effort has paid off. I suggust keeping a list of what he can say. We used to have a budgie when we were kids and he could say so many things, we forget many of them. YAH for Peanut!!!
  7. Sprinkle some seed on it, or put some millet on it... food usually works!

Your new avairy is great!!! As to your design... also very cool. Some thoughts if I may... * The safety door, I would personally put on the end... why? I think it would allow maximum light into the sections behind. * Also, having it on the end, I believe would give you maximum wall space for storage. I just know having a safety door/storage on the end of my aviary, I use all the nooks and crannies. I just think combining the above 2 points, to get maximum light in the sections behind, you'd want to have the safety door/storage section all in wire. This would not allow for any storage above a certain height. If it was only a safety door and you could store things else where, I'd say go for it. Another option would be to join the avairy you have now with what you're going to build... Something also helpful is to mark out your plans, to scale. Walk through it often and check if you fit comfortably etc... becuase once you build it, it's harder to change. Enough babbling from me. I look forward to your changing plans (as they always do)... Building is so much fun... and in the mean time, I look forward to seeing your new avairy up and running.

So, some background... When I used to live at home, up until a few years ago, I had a lovely aviary with 2 cockatiels and some budgies. When I moved out into a unit, the aviary wasn't permitted so I bought along a breeding pair who had 5 chicks. They settled in well, and after they were old enough, Mum, Dad and one budgies 'Gypsy' went back to the aviary, two chicks went to two of mum's friends, and i kept two, Gucci and Dolce with me. After some time, I decided it was better for them to be flying free in the aviary and I could also have my clean little unit back. So off they went. Mum doesn't do the cleaning or feeding but she talks to them daily. Dad on the other hand, is their new 'mummy'. He loves looking after them and buy them yummy veggies too . So, as we speak, we have Bert (f) and Ernie (m) cockatiels and... John, Paul, George and Ringo (all breed by me and a few years old) and Gucci, Dolce and Gypsy (breed by me and a yearish old) Although I do miss having the sound of them around, especially in the morning, it just doesn't work having them here, and it's certainly wouldn't be fair on my very close neighbours. It is nice to drop in and check on them when I have a cuppa with Mum and Dad though...
  10. Lost/Found I think it pretty much applies to all lost and found animals
  11. Topic has gone off course... Plenty of info here for alicia to think about and make her own decision.
  12. I was going to say BOYS!!! They're the same in all species!!! I to wouldn't be too worried. He'll soon figure out what it's for...
  13. I do the same as Dave here... A simple hose off and in the cage they go. My birds love the FRESH branches they get and I'm yet to see any side effects. But... each to their own.
  14. Congratulations Splat... what a wonderful christmas present. I'm really glad all are well. xoxo

A huge, huge, huge THANK YOU to 'pebblz72' for the 1,000's of stamps I received in the mail today. I have spoken to my Auntie already and she is very thankful and appreciative!!! So thanks from her and her family and especially little 1 yr old Sienna. xoxo  :laughter: :laughter:
  18. Takes time... start with food, and eventually he should do it without it. You can also push your finger gently on his belly, just near his legs, this forces him to step. But I wouldn't push it too soon, you don't want to scare him off.
  19. Good progress thus far, but I'd stop giving him celery. It is full of liquid and have little nutritional value. It can also give them the runs. Go for better greens like bok choy or silverbeet.
  20. Sounds like he needs to see an avian vet. He doesn't sound well and is probably suffering.
  21. Don't bother... spacing too big
  22. maesie replied to krosp's post in a topic in Trip To The Vet
Having no answers is so hard!!! Do you trust your vet? Not saying you shouldn't, but just wondering if there is another avian specialist nearby for a second opinion??? I'm sure everything is being done that can, but often a fresh set of experienced eyes can do wonders. Sending hugs to you and wellness and health to your special little man. Get well soon Cosmo xoxoxoxoxox
  23. I'm not 100% sure... but short term, I think they may be okay but I don't know for how long. Long term, not a good idea. I remember reading something on here about someone else doing it, but not sure. LIV might have a bit more of an idea too, as she's experienced with both species.
  24. maesie replied to deb's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Is it their feathers Deb? Are they not growing correctly and therefor effecting their ability to fly, or do they look normal? If the look normal, maybe it's something else... Also, do they flap their wings and just not get lift or do they not even try? Can you also post some pictures maybe? I personally don't have much of an idea, but hope someone can help you. If not, maybe a vet visit is in order.
