Awwwww. Biggest (((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) So sorry! xoxoxoxo
  2. HE is a handsome guy!!! and, I'd also get a new vet. We have a list on the forums of vets, so try doing a search in the health section. P.S. WELCOME!!!
  3. NICE birds there!!! I've only breed a little, and only to populate my aviary. Even for me, it sucks getting clear eggs. I can only imagine what it must be like for you and other who breed for show and to develop qualities etc...

Very cool Deb I too have heard the peeps of a soon to hatch chick, but it didn't manage to get out of its egg alive... I look forward to following the journey of this little one...

Search the FAQ's and use the search funtion. There are heaps of topics about this same topic.

Keeping them separate as much as possible is pointless... if they are together at all, there is a pretty good chance the other one will get sick.

Read through all the breeding posts and do a search in FAQ's too... I suggest a few months research and lots of questions before you even consider breeding. EDIT: After reading some of your other posts, I'd also make sure your parents know what's involved in breeding, what can go wrong, and what needs to be done if it does.

Regarding quarantine... you need to get your parents to read some of the info about it on here. It's very important, especially if you have noticed one of your birds looking ill. Also, if your Dad is concerned about having a $400 cage with one bird a waste of money, then imagine how he will feel when it's empty if both your birds become sick and die!?!? They are also very good at hiding their illness', so I'd be very careful. I also see you mention you get your birds out of the cage outside NOT a good idea. Many a bird has been lost and not come back because of this... even if they are young and 'can't fly' or their wings have been clipped. I'd suggest only letting them out INSIDE!

Do you have different width perches, so his feet can't wrap all the way around. I also used to have a thick one running up from the bottom of the cage to a perch, so mine used to climb up it to get to the top. Also, if he enjoys cleaning the perches up thus making them smooth, you can swap them around to include some rough ones again... You can trim their nails, although I've never had to. Be carefull of the quick, and just take of the very tip if needed.

Agreed... a Bonsai is not just one species... but it it were me, instead of worrying, just move it, as being a Bonsai, it's only small :-)

Looks fantastic!!! Sooooo much room too.
  13. Kaz or other breeders....what are the "mesh replacement doors" ? You replace the wooden door(sliding or lifting) on your nest box with one made out of mesh... This allows air flow and cools down the nest box.

I had two hens, also sisters as inside pets, and they were fine... we had the usual squabbles over perch space etc... but no more than any other pair regardless of sex.

  17. maesie replied to **KAZ**'s post in a topic in Food And Nutrition
    Perfectly fine!!!
  18. I'd agree with Kaz... she will get used it. Budgie adapt very well to various diabilities. Keep an eye on her if you are really worried about it... and a avian vet visit is always an option to put your mind at rest... but I wouldn't worry.

Congratulations... remember to remove the shell of the hatched chick, as it can get caught on the other eggs and prevent hatching.
  20. I would tell your friend NEVER to use this breeder again... not only did they sell them a bird way too young... feeding birds only seed and water is not a suitable diet and Eucalyptus is not dangerous
  21. just a question can you give canned corn to budgies or would it not be very good for them Canned corn usually has a lot of salt and is therfor not good for them. I try and give my fresh corn on the cob, or frozen.
  22. maesie replied to Teagan's post in a topic in Budgie Behaviour
It's not a good idea to just add a nesting box because they seem like they want one. They can have fun if they want, but unless you are ready to breed and ready for what it can bring, I would advice against it. It's spring... many animals are getting into the mood.
  23. I believe your cage is way too small for two budgies... can you measure it for us? From that photo it looks tiny...
  24. Think about increasing their night time hours too... it's heading into spring and she may be becoming hormonal... and we all know how us females get! lol... increased dark hours can help this.
