  1. Horizontal splayed legs are a serious disability, but he can still have a happy life with a cage that it set up for him. He would need a cage with no grill in the bottom, he would need platforms with ramps rather than perches and he will be able to eat out of a plate rather than a bowel. In March I was offered a budgie who needed a home. ----> here is the topic. Scooter was reported to have splayed legs, but when i got him he only had rickets so was nowhere as disabled as i was expecting. Disabled budgies are delightful and adapt well to their limitations
  2. As long as he is covered tight and there are NO drafts in he cage he should be okay with your window open. He needs every bit of warmth he can get at the moment. I replied about the splayed legged baby in your other topic One disaster after another - it must be tearing you up inside all this horrible stuff happening and you can't really do much about it (((((HUGS)))))
  3. what a sad story!! Personally i would take that disabled baby and keep him or find him a loving home - His legs are splayed but other than that he would be healthy happy bird with the right owner - don't let them kill him and they dont sound like the type of people who would get it done properly by a vet
  4. I think you need to join the club ---->
  5. Corn flour and/or corn starch will be fine too use to stop any bleeding If he doesn't bleed again and is kept free from infection he should be fine to wait until Tuesday for the vet - I really hope the poor boy will be okay - you going to keep him now, or will he go back to your relatives??
  6. I can't say i have noticed any of my birds 'fall off the perch' Personally i would associate it with a bird that is sick in some way..... but that's just me
  7. I bet the poor boy knows you are trying to help him - i wouldn't want to be caged with a mad man either!!! It is sad that your relatives were not going to contact a vet Here in Australia it is against the law not to give veterinary support to your sick/injured animal (one of the best laws we have in my opinion too!!!) don't worry about the colar as long as he is not chewing his wounds. He should preen the blood from his feathers on the wing.... speeking of the wing.... was it a skin wound that caused the bleed, or is there a broken blood feather??? if its a blood feather the quil will need to be pulled out otherwise it will start bleeding every time it gets knocked - budgies can bleed to death with blood feathers. Also keep some white pepper next to his cage incase you need to stop any bleeding - he would be quiet from loss of blood, but should regain it in a few days - lots of good fresh food to help build up his strenght.
  8. Hello, my name is Liv and i am a budgieholic :fear I started with 1 named Snowy, when i was 7 years old. I then got another when i was 10. From then on the addiction started and it has never stopped - It didn't help that my best friend/ boyfriend was also a budgie breeder and introduced me to them more I started breeding budgies at age 12 and kept an intimate flock of 10 budgies up until i joined this forum almost 12 months ago - NOW i have 40 budgies and 8 tiels I have not bought a new bird for over 3 weeks - I great improvement on my account
  9. :fear I don't think a budgie wold have done this Is there any way a rat or mouse got in the cage?? Do they hang the cage outside?? perhaps a bird of prey tried to get through the wires..... They are NASTY wounds!!!! I really hope he makes it. Warmth and disinfectant and the collar like the vet said will help, i would be tempted to give him an antibiotic too (i dont know which one) (((((((HUGS))))))))) Keep us posted here is a topic on using willow tree as pain medication -----> HERE
  10. Sounds like you have had a busy weekend Quarantine is very important as an outbreak of a nasty bug could wipe out your entire flock I hope you have lots of fun breeding and i look forward to your updates :bluebudgie:
  11. I have 3 inside pet budgies. They spend all day playing on their play gym right next to me in our main living room. They are not scared of me, but they are not bonded to me either because I don't hold them very much except when i pick them up off the ground to put them back on their play gym etc. personally i would spend as much time holding him as possible - I feel budgies are most comfortable sitting on your shoulder while you are relaxing or doing minor chores (that don't include cooking, toilet cleaning, or the use of chemicals) My inside birds are not crazy about veggies either, but they have suddenly fallen in love with steamed peas!!! Also they have decided to devour a slice of apple that has been sitting there for 24 hours :bluebudgie: Keep up with trying veggies, more so than fruit
  12. Really? That would be so cool . I have no idea how is it with posting plants, but I've emailed czech customs office, so I'll see what they say. But would it survive the journey? It would dry out in the journey, but the birds still like to chew it - Perhaps put in zip lock bags it might keep its moisture??.... I will be interested to hear what customs say
  13. they do strip it off!! They love the red bark more than the leaves :hap: I saved that branch from the mulching machine and it has been a real hit with the birds - Now however it is just making a good perch as they have stripped it BARE - not a leaf in sight Next time i will post you some Zebra - I wonder if we could send you small gum tree cuttings to your country Do you know your quarantine laws???
  14. What a cute photo CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
  15. Oh she is very pretty - best not leave the house with anything in your purse other than your driver license for a while hahaha
  16. Thanks Maesie. I am very over due for a new camera - i take all my pics on my phone at the moment, and the quality is killing me lol. I am saving saving saving
  17. Totally adorable one question.... How will he go with your bunny ????
  18. It's been a while since i did a photo update of everyone so here they are Last week we had some council workers trimming trees in our street - they gave me a massive branch for my aviary and the birds have LOVED chewing it to bits My inside birds got a treat too - i built them a better play area to sit on the top of their cage - They all play on it all day long

I have 3 budgies in a cage bigger than that size and they are out of it most of the day. I had Lady in there (which made 4 budgies in my cage ) for a few days while she recovered from a bad blood feather and with the 4 in there it was way too Crowded - I would resist the urge to have any more budgies until you can get a much bigger cage or have 2 smaller ones.

I forget what size it is and have you brought it home yet????
  21. Sorry for your loss Thanks for the warning
  22. It could be just saggy (heading south poor girl :hap: ). I have a hen when she is feeding chicks gets a saggy crop - she is completely fine and when she is not feeding chicks her crop is normal....
  23. rather than being egg bound which as Kaz said will not go on for weeks. Perhaps she has a tumour or a fatty mass that you can feel???? Do you have any photos of Saphira???
  24. Thats so cute I agree, a very sweet BOM picture :hap:
  25. Hello and welcome - I looked after the school budgies when i was in primary school - was great fun Your hen needs to be kept warm continuously with a lamp that has a 25-40 watt globe. Here is a great topic about egg binding ---> HERE
